The Manatee Bay buoy in the Florida Keys recorded a sea surface temperature of 101.1 degrees at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 24. The buoy, located in the Upper Keys northwest of Key Largo managed by Everglades National Park, recorded the temperature at a depth of 4.9 feet. Pending no anomalies with the data, the recording would set a new world sea surface temperature, breaking the current record of 99.7 degrees. That temperature was recorded in Kuwait Bay of the Persian Gulf.

Police are searching for two people who burned a part of Key West’s famous Southernmost Point buoy early New Year’s Day after setting a fire near the landmark tourism icon. News outlets report two males lit a Christmas tree on fire in front of the buoy around 3:30 a.m. Saturday and the flames charred sections of the colorful, 4-ton cement monument that reads “90 miles to Cuba, Southernmost Point, Continental U.S.A.” Archival webcam images of the buoy from a marketing company shows two people lighting the tree on fire near the marker, with the flames leaving a large black burn...

According the the US Government's National Data Buoy Center (NDBC), some type of "event" in the ocean off the New Jersey coast triggered a Tsunami Buoy! The buoy recorded sudden changes in water depth of fifty-five METERS (180 feet) in a matter of seconds.

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- A 4,000-pound buoy has washed ashore in Cocoa Beach and no one seems to know exactly where it came from. The 20-foot long green cylinder was first spotted bobbing just off shore, but is now resting on the sand near 24th Street. The National Weather Service says it's not one of its devices used to measure waves and gather other information. The Coast Guard says it could be a navigational buoy, but it isn't missing any either.
