This time next week, viewers across America will tune in for the big show: Not just the Super Bowl, but the ads, including a heady brew of beer commercials. The ever-busy plaintiff's bar is also ready... to serve up another round of lawsuits. On the surface, these lawsuits target alleged pitches by the alcohol industry to underage drinkers. As usual, though, what's really on trial are personal responsibility and the deep pockets of beverage makers. Class-action lawsuits filed in California and a few other states accuse alcohol companies of using provocative TV and magazine ads to push libations on youngsters....

No matter how you cut it up, eating people is simply wrong - By Barbara Amiel (Filed: 08/12/2003) Not a few modern cannibals in the West have been German and it would be tempting to say, after reading the testimony of self-confessed cannibal Armin Meiwes, now on trial in Kassel, that eating people is a peculiarly German thing to do. But there have been some American and British cannibals, with the odd Russian as well. What may be an EU speciality is that apparently cannibalism is not a crime - though using wooden chopping boards may be. Somehow, one would...

While gay marriage is a current hot-button issue for politicians, business leaders have been wrestling for years over whether to offer health coverage to their employees' domestic partners. As employers look into the benefits and costs of covering domestic partners, more and more of them are saying yes--not due to a court order or political pressure but because they think it makes good business sense. Since last year, 34 of the 500 biggest U.S. public companies have started the coverage, bringing the total up to 210, according to the Human Rights Campaign, a Washington, D.C.-based gay and lesbian lobbying group....

A friend told me she heard a local well connected beer supplier say that Anheuser-Busch was going to buy out and close down the renowned Czech brewer Budweiser Budvar (called "Czechvar" in the USA). Czechvar is about the best Pilsner I've ever tasted--and is actually brewed in Budweis, Czech. They've been haranging with A-B since the 1800s over the "Budweiser" name. Over most of the world giant A-B has won out.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- When you boil it all down, the Budweiser Shootout is nothing but a glorified practice among 19 drivers to see who has the best Daytona 500 backup car. So why is it always so intense? Why do 22 drivers -- pole winner from 2003 and previous Shootout winners -- go after it so hard? Well, it's simple. It's a race. There's money on the line. Did we mention it was a race? "It's like a bar fight, but the car takes the beating," defending Budweiser Shootout winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
