The third time was not the charm for a man who washed up on a beach in Florida in a "bubble" as he attempted to walk on water to New York for charity. Reza Baluchi, 49, made it about 25 miles into his journey in his hydro pod, which resembles a hamster wheel installed with flotation devices, before returning to shore in St. Augustine, according to The New York Times. Fully stocked for a three-week trip, he reportedly found a day after his departure that his backup GPS device and charging cables were missing, forcing him to return to land....

I can't get into anything Google: mail, Youtube, translate, etc. I looked at the settings in chrome and it said that google.com was blocked but I don't see how to unblock it. I don't think it's a chrome setting because it doesn't work on any browser. My default browser is Brave. I use Kaspersky for virus protection. Is this a firewall problem? A Windows 10 problem? It just started yesterday.

Rose McGowan says the Democratic Party is just as much of a cult as the one she was raised in. Growing up with the Children of God “gave me the ability to see the control and the propaganda machine, especially in the U.S., for what it is and how it harms people,” the actor and activist said Monday on Fox News. The “Brave” author called that ability a “superpower” that allowed her to see that the political left could harm people just as much as the right, if they ignore other aspects of reality. She said she no longer considered...

  • In rare, 63-year-old video, ‘Brave New World’ author predicts Big Tech’s power to manipulate behavior

In a 1958 television interview, Aldous Huxley predicted the technological capability to bypass reason and manipulate behavior through subliminal means. Today, social media platforms and search engines use sophisticated artificial-intelligence algorithms to control the information we see. Story at-a-glance: Aldous Huxley wrote “Brave New World,” a nightmarish vision of a future society known as the “World State,” ruled by science and efficiency, where emotions and individuality have been eradicated and personal relationships are few. When Huxley wrote the book, optimism about technological advancements were high and there was widespread belief that technology would solve many of the world’s problems. “Brave...
  • Sisters speak out against 'men working' signs after seeing them in their Indiana neighborhood

CARMEL, Ind — “'Men working' signs are a problem,” Blair Babione told the Carmel City Council Monday night. Blair, 11, and her 9-year old sister, Brienne, came to the meeting after an invitation from council president Sue Finkam. The girls had recently sent letters to Finkam about “men working” signs they had noticed recently in their neighborhood. ‘Why is this sign here? Why does it say, ‘men working’ when we’ve seen plenty of women doing construction?’” they asked. Leslie, the girls’ mom, said her daughters wanted to know. When she couldn’t give them an answer, they decided to research it....
  • Privacy Bug in Brave Browser Exposes Dark-Web Browsing History of Its Users

Brave has fixed a privacy issue in its browser that sent queries for .onion domains to public internet DNS resolvers rather than routing them through Tor nodes, thus exposing users' visits to dark web websites. The bug was addressed in a hotfix release (V1.20.108) made available yesterday. Brave ships with a built-in feature called "Private Window with Tor" that integrates the Tor anonymity network into the browser, allowing users to access .onion websites, which are hosted on the darknet, without revealing the IP address information to internet service providers (ISPs), Wi-Fi network providers, and the websites themselves. The feature was...

Mozilla has been watching the user share of its flagship Firefox web browser shrink for a while, so it was hardly a surprise last week when the company announced it was doing some belt tightening that would result in another round of layoffs. What was a surprise were the numbers involved: The company is laying off about 250 employees, for a staff reduction of 25%, and is completely closing its operations in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition, 60 employees will be shifted to new jobs, and the company will reduce spending on such things as developer tools, internal tooling and platform...

Chromium-based Brave stumbles in its efforts to shake up the browser business with cryptocurrency and privacy. Brave, the privacy-focused Chromium browser from Mozilla co-founder and JavaScript creator Brendan Eich, has come under fire for automatically redirecting URLs typed into the browser's address bar to a version of the URL it profits from. Brave is trying to carve out a new business model by offering users the choice of viewing ads in exchange for Brave's cryptocurrency, the Basic Attention Token (BAT). Users can also tip websites they regularly visit in BAT credits based on the idea that website visitors want to...

Mozilla, maker of the Firefox web browser, says it's giving all users more control of their own data. The change is spurred by the California Consumer Privacy Act, or CCPA, which went into effect Wednesday. The new data privacy law gives California residents the right to know what personal data tech companies collect. It also enables people to ask companies to delete their data and not sell it. Mozilla said changes it's making under the CCPA will apply to every Firefox user, not just those in California. In a blog post Tuesday, Mozilla said it'll give Firefox users the option...

People are finally waking up to the importance of privacy and the risk of entities over whom we have no control hoovering up the details of our digital lives, and that’s why the latest news from Duck Duck Go is so worthwhile. Apple’s good privacy just got better We know Apple is working to protect privacy – its newly updated privacy website shares a huge amount of information on its efforts, while the newly-published Safari white paper confirms the browser’s privacy protections include (among other things): Protection from cross-site tracking. Ad measurement tools that respect user privacy. Secure payments. Sign-in...

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) is fundraising off her feud with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, asking supporters to donate to her presidential campaign and calling on Clinton to "face her directly" in the 2020 Democratic primary. "Hillary Clinton accused Tulsi Gabbard — a combat veteran, soldier and Major in the Army National Guard — of being 'groomed' to be a 'Russian asset,'" reads a fundraising email sent by Gabbard's campaign on Saturday. "Tulsi fights back and demands Hillary join the race and face her directly." Gabbard in the email said that Clinton "finally came out from behind the curtain...

Help! I have a three week old HP laptop that was working beautifully until the Microsoft update on 27 August 2019. Since then my browser tabs have been crashing repeatedly throughout every session, and periodically, the computer crashes too. I'm a simple user with just enough savvy to post here and build simple websites. I don't have the skills to sort this out, and need some help, please. I've already tried doing a system restore to an earlier date, but the computer keeps crashing before it completes. I've run CCleaner and Malwarebytes too many times to count. I've sent countless...

I just downloaded and started using Brave. All I've done is make it the default browser and import bookmarks from Chrome. Are there any other settings I should know about or addons to make it run better? In their addons they recommended Microsoft Edge but since I've never used it before I don't see why I would be using it now. Should I add that on for some reason? I am also using AdGuard 7.0, which I installed before Brave. Is the built in ad blocker for Brave good enough to make AdGuard redundant? I've never had any problems with...

I have a question for browser-savvy FReepers. I downloaded Pale Moon, which seems to be a good browser. A lot of FReepers use it, and that is how I first heard of it. It changed the font size on my email to about 350 percent, and I cannot find a way to reduce it back to 100 percent (i.e., normal size.) Can anyone tell me how to do it? Thank you.

I have been using Brave with no issues but the scrolling problem. Yesterday Brave updated. Now I cannot change the homepage, it is one of theirs, I was able to change goog to duck duck go, but it now lists and autofills when I search and I cannot turn that off There doesn't seem to be a place to do these simple things anymore. Although the scrolling problem went away.
