  • Elizabeth Warren's hometown paper 'skeptical' of 2020 run: She 'missed her moment in 2016'

(CNN) The Boston Globe published a searing editorial Thursday pouring cold water on the prospects of a presidential run for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2020, a stark contrast to the paper's call for her to seek the White House three years ago. "While Warren is an effective and impactful senator with an important voice nationally, she has become a divisive figure," the Globe editorial reads. "A unifying voice is what the country needs now after the polarizing politics of Donald Trump." The Globe, based in the state Warren represents, writes: "Warren missed her moment in 2016, and there's reason...
  • Ethnicity not a factor in Elizabeth Warren’s rise in law

**SNIP** The Globe examined hundreds of documents, many of them never before available, and reached out to all 52 of the law professors who are still living and were eligible to be in that Pound Hall room at Harvard Law School. Some are Warren’s allies. Others are not. Thirty-one agreed to talk to the Globe — including the law professor who was, at the time, in charge of recruiting minority faculty. Most said they were unaware of her claims to Native American heritage and all but one of the 31 said those claims were not discussed as part of her...
  • Editorial: Strong democracy needs a free press

The Boston Globe has urged newspapers across the country to publish editorials today promoting the value of a free press, and to defend it against criticisms by President Donald Trump. It’s reasonable to ask why. It’s not news that a president of the United States doesn’t like the news media. Most presidents don’t. Thomas Jefferson, who was routinely attacked by the press of his day, once said the only truths in a newspaper were in the advertisements. What’s disturbing today is the bitter vitriol and open contempt directed toward the news media.
  • Massachusetts Republican beats trans driver’s license bill by forcing votes on all 73 genders

Legislation to add a “Gender X” option to driver’s license should have been a straightforward task in the far-left state of Massachusetts, but one Republican lawmaker managed to derail the bill by taking transgender ideology to its furthest extreme. The state Senate voted in June to approve the measure, which would have also extended the option to learner’s permits and state identification cards. No documentation would have been required to prove an applicant is neither male nor female. “It’s a milestone,” bill sponsor Sen. Karen Spilka, a Democrat, said at the time. Despite the state House of Representatives being just...

-- Security is tighter Thursday afternoon at The Boston Globe headquarters. Police are stationed around the building for the rest of the day. Building management at 53 State Street sent a memo to all tenants -- saying The Globe had received several threats. The Boston Globe spear-headed an effort by more than 300 newspapers today, publishing editorials against president trump's attacks on the press. President Donald Trump tweeted that The Globe is in collusion with other papers on the issue of free press.

You could call this latest “coordinated” hit on big, bad President Donald Trump ‘The Dog Day of the American Newspaper Industry’ D-Day for the 340-something newspapers who took up the Boston Globe’s lead to publish anti-Trump editorials on their largely ignored-by-the-public editorial pages, and only Rex Huppke’s dog over at the Chicago Tribune is getting to lap up any attention. The progressive-left’s running dog media hoped to gain public trust by coordinating against the president they live to hate in a single day, but their efforts went over like the proverbial lead balloon.

Marjorie Pritchard, deputy managing editor of the Boston Globe, is at this moment patting herself on the back. She is, in her own mind, a heroine. She alone conceived the idea to encourage newspapers all over the country to publish anti-Trump editorials on Thursday, August 16. Her big idea is her response to President Trump's relentless attack on those among the media who relentlessly publish fake news. Trump has never said all of the media are disingenuous, or that all of the media publish and promote fake news. He clearly goes after the news outlets who do: CNN, MSNBC, ABC,...

Meanwhile, deplorables will be doffing their caps to Marjorie Pritchard for outing all purveyors of Fake News. This coming Thursday Marjorie Pritchard, deputy managing editor for the editorial page of the Boston Globe will make it easy for readers to make a list of which newspapers are Fake News. Rather than just being lumped together by Chief Fake News Fighter President Donald Trump, they will be listed by name. Deplorables: Get your PC’s copy and paste function ready to roll.

A reporter at a Massachusetts-based newspaper resigned Friday after falsely claiming in a tweet Thursday that the man who killed five employees at the Capital Gazzete newspaper left a “Make America Great Again” hat at the crime scene. “Shooter who killed 4 people at Annapolis newspaper dropped his #MAGA hat on newsroom floor before opening fire,” Conor Berry, a reporter at The Republican in Springfield, Mass., wrote in a now-deleted tweet. Berry, who covered politics and crime for The Republican, apologized for the “stupid” and “regrettable” tweet Friday, adding that it made his 21-year career as a journalist come to...

John Kerry has colluded with the Iranian regime to preserve the Iran deal from its prospective undoing by the president of the United States. Matt Viser calls it “shadow diplomacy” in his Boston Globe article breaking the story. Isn’t this the kind of thing for which then Acting Attorney Sally Yates sicced the FBI on Michael Flynn? Because it allegedly violated the Logan Act? Why, yes, it is. (I requested a comment from Yates this morning via email.) Yates won’t be talking to me, I’m pretty sure, but we can to turn to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes on...
  • The Boston Globe to hike home delivery rates (eventually to $26 per week)

The priciest regional daily newspaper in the U.S. is about to get pricier, with as much as an 80 percent increase possible for some home delivery subscribers. Last week, some longtime subscribers were notified via email that their weekly cost will go up to $19.70 a week, but the email made no mention of the further planned price hikes. A customer service representative at the Boston Globe’s subscription phone center told a Business Journal reporter Tuesday that the company is planning to increase its seven-day-a-week home delivery cost, after all discounts have expired, to $25.90 per week for subscribers in...

The provocative Worcester-based blog Turtleboy Sports, the first to break the story about how a Massachusetts state trooper apparently faced discipline for including incriminating details in his arrest report concerning a judge’s daughter, days ago broke a story regarding a K-9 trooper’s lurid history of drug dealing and money laundering. Both of Boston’s major newspapers — the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe — recently followed up on the Turtleboy report with stories of their own. Neither publication cited, however, Turtleboy’s original reporting, triggering a firestorm of criticism in both newspaper’s online comment sections.

A political writer for the Boston Globe was forced to resign due to sexual harrassment. The paper refused to release his name but yesterday Kirk Minihane of radio station WEEI said it was Jim O'Sullivan; today, public radio station WGBH also confirms it was O'Sullivan. He is no longer on the paper's website and has not tweeted in a month. Tori Bedford of WGBH: "Even if you already knew this, somebody needed to report it with vetted sources, so here it is: "@wgbhnews confirmed that one of the accused Globe employees is Jim O’Sullivan, a political reporter who...resigned in late...
  • Boston Globe: Gun Confiscation is Needed… and Impossible

The Boston Globe recent ran an article where it acknowledged the obvious: the long term goal of the gun control movement (recently relabeled as  “gun safety”), is to confiscate a large number of Americans' firearms. The Globe has almost everything else wrong in its article, but they are honest about the desire for gun confiscation. From the bostonglobe.com:In other words, the proposals aren’t just difficult to enact in the current political climate; their practical effects would also be quite limited. On occasion, though, leading Democrats will make oblique reference to a more sweeping policy change: seizing a huge number of...

Imagine a candidate for public office so shameless that she’ll make up a nonexistent devotion to religion to try to appeal to voters. Now imagine a candidate who doesn’t have to do it, because a local newspaper will do it for her. The Boston Globe in its shilling for U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Morrissey Boulevard) has sunk to depths that not even the object of its affection has gone to. Here’s the money paragraph in the Globe’s profile this weekend of Elizabeth-Warren-as-religious-person: ...
  • Is Boston racist? Poll shows city is split — along racial lines

Bostonians are fairly evenly divided over whether theirs is a racist town, 42 percent saying yes and 45 percent believing it is not, according to a new Suffolk University/Boston Globe poll. But, perhaps unsurprisingly, views vary dramatically among the races themselves. Fifty-seven percent of those who identify as black said the city is racist, compared with 37 percent of those who call themselves white. Hispanics fell in the middle, with 44 percent believing their hometown is racist.

Comey, the former FBI director, asked the Justice Department for a significant increase in money and personnel for the bureau’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the presidential election, three officials with knowledge of his request told the New York Times. Comey asked for the resources during a meeting last week with Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who wrote the Justice Department’s memo that was used to justify the firing of the FBI director this week. Read the full story...

Donald J. Trump’s vision for the future of our nation is as deeply disturbing as it is profoundly un-American. It is easy to find historical antecedents. The rise of demagogic strongmen is an all too common phenomenon on our small planet. And what marks each of those dark episodes is a failure to fathom where a leader’s vision leads, to carry rhetoric to its logical conclusion. The satirical front page of this section attempts to do just that, to envision what America looks like with Trump in the White House. It is an exercise in taking a man at his...

‘DO YOU believe,” CNBC’s Joe Kernen asked Scott Pruitt, the Environmental Protection Agency’s new director, in an interview last Thursday, “that it’s been proven that CO2 is the primary control knob for climate?” Replied Pruitt: “No. I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do, and there’s tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact. So no — I would not agree that it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see. But we don’t know that yet. We need to continue the debate and continue the review and the analysis.”...

If you are not already apoplectic that Russian hackers, according to the CIA, meddled in the recent presidential campaign to game the system in Donald Trump’s favor, then consider what impossibly steep recompense Vladimir Putin will demand for making Trump the most powerful person in the world. Of course, Trump thinks he’s all-powerful because his flimsy ego, which is more suited for poorly attended victory tour stops than daily intelligence briefings, simply can’t entertain an alternate narrative. He’s also busy stacking his Cabinet with Putin-approved appointees, like secretary of state nominee Rex Tillerson, ExxonMobil’s chief executive. Trump is too vain...
