A group advocating to rename Faneuil Hall because of its namesake's ties to slavery will re-enact a slave auction outside the historic downtown building this weekend. The New Democracy Coalition says Saturday's event is designed to call attention to Boston's history of slavery. The building known as the Cradle of Liberty is named after Peter Faneuil, a wealthy 18th century slave owner who financed construction as a gift to the city.

Chick-fil-A’s entrance in the Boston market comes six years after the late Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said he would oppose the chain from opening within city limits after Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy voiced his opposition to gay marriage in 2012. Bulger, 89, was convicted in 2013 of being complicit in 11 murders in Massachusetts, Florida and Oklahoma. Notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger was found dead at a federal prison in West Virginia Tuesday, federal officials said. Bulger, 89, had recently arrived at the high-security penitentiary USP Hazelton in West Virginia, according to the Boston Herald. The feared former leader of the Winter Hill Gang, Bulger was convicted in 2013 of participating in 11 murders stretching from Massachusetts to Florida to Oklahoma.

The son of a Boston police captain was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison for an ISIS-inspired terrorist plot — three years after his father tipped off federal law enforcement. Alexander Ciccolo, 26, went by the name Ali Al Amriki. His father, Robert Ciccolo, noted his son’s admiration of the terrorist group and alerted the FBI.
