  • Recent crimes may be driving up gun sales (Call in Captain Obvious!)

07/22/2015 2:44:06 PM PDT · by Red in Blue PA · 4 replies
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – All the high-profile violent crimes hitting the Albuquerque area may be helping gun sales. One local shop says they’ve seen a major uptick in sales in what’s usually the slowest time of the year and that they heard from a lot of people after the murder of Steven Gerecke. Omni Arms near Central and Juan Tabo typically sells about 30 guns a week in the summer. The store manager says in the week after police say Gerecke was killed in his own driveway by six teens on a crime spree, they sold around 50 guns. And they...
  • Celebrating Hispanic values: Marine recruiting billboard

I saw this billboard from the Pennsylvania Turnpike today. Seems divisive, to me. Seems like the PC gods would never countenance a recruiting poster that celebrated white values. Seems like the empire is recruiting foreigners for its legions, in preference to its own, or because its own don't want to serve. The picture isn't mine. I found it online at this Kansas source, dated three years ago, the author reacting much as I did.But the tin gods still think it's a good idea.

The Justice Department announced a deal Friday requiring Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to provide services in Spanish to his jail inmates, settling part of a two-year-old discrimination complaint the Obama administration filed against the man known as “America’s Sheriff.” Federal authorities will also become permanent overseers for all worksite raids, with the power to demand information about any raids that deputies perform. The Justice Department says it will scrutinize them to make sure they’re following the Constitution. Still to come is a ruling by a court on charges that sheriff’s deputies discriminated in targeting Hispanics for traffic enforcement. But...

Real-estate mogul and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump called for a boycott of Macy's on Wednesday after the retail company said it would drop Trump's products. Earlier in the day, Macy's said it was snubbing Trump because of the "disparaging characterizations" he made about Mexican immigrants during his campaign launch. Among other things, Trump accused Mexico of sending its "rapists" and drug dealers to the US. In addition to blasting Macy's in an official statement, Trump attacked Macy's in a series of tweets for being "weak on border security" Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-boycott-macys-2015-7#ixzz3ergFOT2w
  • Supremes: citizenship not necessary for voter registration

In a commonsense decision, the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of a case that decided that people registering to vote in federal election don't have to prove their citizenship. That means that people registering to vote won't be bullied into proving citizenship, which now seems to be an irrelevant criterion for voting. “I am very pleased, obviously,” said Dolores Furtado, president of the Kansas chapter of the League of Women Voters. “It’s a good feeling because we’re truly trying to help” people get registered to vote. Furtado said the league’s main interest is in increasing participation in the...

The United States is now the world’s second largest Spanish-speaking country after Mexico, according to a new study published by the prestigious Instituto Cervantes. The report says there are 41 million native Spanish speakers in the US plus a further 11.6 million who are bilingual, mainly the children of Spanish-speaking immigrants. This puts the US ahead of Colombia (48 million) and Spain (46 million) and second only to Mexico (121 million). Among the sources cited in the report is the US Census Office which estimates that the US will have 138 million Spanish speakers by 2050, making it the biggest...

The truth hurts, goes the old saying. Nowhere is that better illustrated than in the liberal media’s treatment of Donald Trump’s presidential announcement. Not to mention the reaction of Hillary Clinton. Mediaite is up in arms about Donald Trump, specifically his views on illegal immigration and Mexico. In his announcement speech Trump had the audacity to say this of illegal immigrants coming over the southern US border: “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people.” Suffice to say, Mediaite did not approve. The site headlined a furious story by Matt Wilstein this way:...

MEXICO CITY – After Donald Trump's Mexico-bashing comments this week, Mexicans are engaging in a little Trump-bashing of their own. Artesan Dalton Avalos Ramirez created a Trump piñata after the outspoken mogul bashed Mexico on Tuesday during a speech when he announced he was running for president. During his kickoff speech, Trump accused Mexico of illegally sending drugs, crime and rapists across the border. Avalos Ramirez, who lives and works in Reynosa, Mexico said Mexicans on both sides of the border are quite angry at his comments and are embracing the new piñata gladly.

Jeb Bush’s son, George P. Bush, made what he called his “first appearance” on his father’s behalf in Las Vegas on Wednesday night. Bush, the Texas land commissioner, spoke to a crowd of about 40 people at the locally-owned Mexican restaurant, Mundo. He talked about the importance of the Latino vote in Nevada and across the country. “The Hispanic agenda is the American agenda, it’s an aspirational community that I happen to be a part of,” Bush said to the attendees. “We want better schools, a brighter economic tomorrow, a strong national defense, it’s a patriotic community.” Bush said his...

The Facebook CEO and his wife, Priscilla Chan, gave the money to the “I’m In” campaign launched by TheDream.us, a national scholarship fund for undocumented immigrants. The fund targets students who came to the U.S. as children and received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival status, an immigration policy started by President Obama that gives them exemption from deportation and allows them to work. Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page that he sees the fund’s efforts as an important step in educating marginalized youth in America. “America was founded as a nation of immigrants,” he says. “We ought to welcome smart...

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson acted in the case of Hofstra University student Iknoor Singh, who had been barred by the U.S. Army from enrolling in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program because of his religious practices. The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) is a college-based program for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces.

Three MS-13 street-gang members from El Salvador are being held without bail on charges they forced a 16-year-old New York girl into the woods near a golf course, and two of them raped her while the third kept watch. “This is one of the most brutal, heinous crimes that I have seen in a long, long time,” Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said at a news conference, according to New York’s WNBC-TV. “This poor young woman is so lucky that, quite frankly, that she is alive. SOMETHING happened while the immigration system in the United States got broken, something that should change the way we talk about fixing it. Years went by, and nature took its course. More than 11 million unauthorized immigrants settled into our communities; many formed families and had children. Now at least one of every 15 children living in the United States has an unauthorized parent, and nearly all of those children are native-born United States citizens. Think of that statistic, one in 15, the next time you drive by a school or a playground. Think of those children living with the...

Terror group ISIS has released an 11-minute long video where it warns the United States of another 9/11-style attack. The militants said that America's geographical location won't bring it the safety it perceives to have, and warned that an "army of Jihad" is coming. The Independent noted that the video, titled "We Will Burn America," is not the first of its kind – in January, the group warned to beheaded President Barack Obama and turn America into a Muslim province. ISIS has captured significant territory in Iraq and Syria and has looked to expand its Islamic caliphate across the region....

A coalition of 26 states fought and won a battle to freeze President Barack Obama’s deferred action plan to give temporary work visas to illegal immigrants with children born in the United States. Judge Andrew Hanen’s injunction order, issued Monday, makes certain eligible illegal immigrants won’t get permission from the federal government to seek lawful employment, and will have to continue working without legal papers. The states who filed the lawsuit claimed such an action would cause “undue burden” to their finances. “Regardless of the reasons behind the actions or inaction of the executive and legislative branches of the...

President Barack Obama’s nominee to replace Eric Holder as Attorney General of the United States, Loretta Lynch, said on Wednesday during a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing that she thinks illegal aliens have the same right to work in America as American citizens do. “Senator, I believe the right and the obligation to work is one that is shared by everyone in this country, regardless of how they came here,” Lynch said when asked by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) who has a greater right to work: Illegal aliens, or lawful immigrants and American citizens? “Certainly, if someone is here—regardless of...
