(Jan. 2, 2024) — On Tuesday morning, New York State resident and registered voter Robert C. Laity lodged a revised formal complaint with the state’s Division of Election Law Enforcement regarding the New York State Board of Elections’s (NYSBOE) “misstating the criteria for being elected as President of the United States.” The original December 30, 2023 complaint contained a clerical error which Laity corrected in this morning’s submission. NYSBOE members are listed here, with Laity naming co-chairman Peter S. Kosinski in Section 2 of the complaint form in accordance with the instructions. Instead of the Article II, Section 1, clause...

CHICAGO — Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson says he wasn't trying to buy anyone's vote when he handed out close to $200,000 to churchgoers. The millionaire businessman said Sunday's appearance at the New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church was nothing more than "one of the biggest property tax relief assistance" events of the year and the kind of thing he's done before. The Illinois State Board of Elections said Wilson didn't break any campaign finance laws because the money came from his non-profit foundation. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, himself seeking reelection, joined Wilson at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church at the...

There were two relatively minor incidents that took place earlier this summer which are now being used by both the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Obama administration to call for increased federal control over the election process – as well as a possible means of delegitimizing an election outcome should that outcome declare Donald Trump the winner. NBC, CNN, and the New York Times have led the recent magnification of the election hacking story based upon a months-old hack of a board of election site, and a failed hack of another. That is not to say such a hack does...

Keep quiet. That’s the message being sent by New York State Board of Elections, which disregarded the First Amendment to enact new “emergency regulations” on political speech that could become permanent at the end of this month. Intended to regulate spending by independent groups during campaign season, the regulations are so expansive that almost anyone, citizen or organization, hoping to have their say on any issue could find themselves in bureaucratic dire straits. Imagine you hear a radio ad where your state representative — let’s call him Fred — claims to oppose higher taxes. But you know that Fred voted...

Although many on the left have a vested interest in denying it exists at all costs, the ineluctable truth of the matter is that voter fraud is a widespread phenomenon. Whether it is so rampant that it influences the outcome of major elections, as some maintain, or has unseated incumbent congressmen in past races, is open to debate. However, the recorded episodes of fraudulent voting and the manipulation of the election process, from corrupt Democratic officials in Indiana, to vote harvesters in Texas, to political apparatchiks in Ohio, to the Republican secretary of state of Indiana, demonstrate that the number...

The Maryland State Board of Elections said Friday that is looking into concerns about the potential for fraud with the online petition-gathering system being used by opponents of a new law that grants college tuition breaks to in-state illegal immigrants. In a May 31 letter to elections officials, the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland asks for a review of the online system’s legality. The group MDPetitions.com is using the system to mount what appears to be a highly effective campaign to put the new law on hold. If the group collects 55,736 valid signatures — or 3 percent of...

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A federal judge in Maryland today granted the Military Voter Protection Project’s request for a preliminary injunction to ensure that Maryland’s military members have sufficient time to vote in November. Under the terms of the order, the Maryland State Board of Elections will be required to count all military and overseas absentee ballots so long as the ballot has been cast on or before Election Day and is returned by 5:00 p.m. on November 22, 2010. The MVP Project filed this case after the Maryland State Board of Elections sent military voters an absentee ballot that only...

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg slammed the state's Board of Elections on Monday for failing to mail out absentee ballots to military and overseas voters from New York City and four additional counties. "I don’t know whether or not the Board of Elections has failed to send out absentee ballots to the military or anybody else, but if they have failed it really is reprehensible," Bloomberg told Fox News. "We send our young men and women overseas to fight and to die for us and we don’t care enough to make sure they get the right to exercise their...

Political parties must be allowed to spend money to directly influence other parties’ primary elections, a state appeals court ruled yesterday, throwing out a century-old prohibition in state law. That finding, if it stands, will be very important to New York politics, but another aspect of the case could matter even more, election law experts said. The decision can also be read, they said, as allowing parties to take sides in their own primaries, rather than remaining neutral, which is the current practice. For decades, parties in New York have taken sides in one another’s primaries, in part because of...
