Cannot believe what I am hearing? What happened to the Conservative person I used to know. Absoluley disgusting.

It's a mild, polite rebuke but still it's a rare occasion when high-profile conservatives go after each other in the media. Bill Bennett says Rush Limbaugh was wrong to hope President Obama crashes and burns: "The locution 'I want him to fail' is not what you say the first week the man's been inaugurated." Bennett also has some surprisingly complimentary things to say about the new president and his attempts at consensus-building.

Smug, Arrogant, Insufferable [Bill Bennett] I’ve now read the report, and I can’t add much beyond what Andy McCarthy and Rich Lowry have written about its contents and internal contradictions. For a report to identify the outside agitators (which happen to also be the worst terrorist-sponsoring states in the world — Iran & Syria) as “provid[ing] arms, financial support, and training for Shiite militias within Iraq,” i.e., fomenting war, and then say we should negotiate and offer incentives to those countries is simply too much to bear. Insult is added to injury with the absurdity that Iran and Syria then...

The Dubai Ports World deal can’t work. Dubai Ports World, the subsidiary of the United Arab Emirates, has now asked for a 45-day review from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to investigate security concerns over the control of six U.S. ports. This is to the good, calming calls for congressional action as well as subsequent threats of a presidential veto. Many lobbyists have been hired, charges alleged, fact-sheets disseminated, and polls put in the field. Still, questions remain to be asked, questions that none of the above D.C. responses have addressed. (snip) But better than...

On CNN today, Bill Bennett hit back at the American media, especially CNN, for refusing to show the Danish cartoons that sparked the current controversy. During the lead-in, CNN showed a number of anti-Semitic cartoons from Middle Eastern newspapers as part of a feature story on double standards in the Arab world. But when the segment turned to a debate between Bennett and Arab American Institute president James Zogby, Bennett criticized CNN for its own double standard — showing the anti-Semitic cartoons as part of a news story, but refusing to show the Danish cartoons:

I was just listening to the Ed Schultz show on Air America. He was trying to defend the whipping he got from Dennis Prager of Schutlz's misquotes of Bill Bennett. Needing help, he brought on Sheila Jackson Lee (I wonder if she has found the flag that our astronauts placed on Mars). In speaking about how bad Bennett's comments were to the black race, she said, "Bill Bennettt's comments set back civil rights 50 years".

Nation of Islam chief Louis Farrakhan will announce plans tomorrow to take action against radio host Bill Bennett for his comments last week suggesting the crime rate would decline if the black abortion rate went up. In a statement released Tuesday by Farrakhan's "Millions More MORONS Movement," the group says it will use a press conference on Wednesday to "issue a response to the racist comments of former Secretary of Education William Bennett who proposed genocide, or 'aborting all Black Babies,' as a remedy to America's crime problem." "Specific action will be announced to deal with William Bennett and his...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 - The White House distanced itself today from the comments of a prominent Republican who said on a recent radio program that the nation's crime rate could potentially be reduced through aborting blacks. The White House called the comments, made by William J. Bennett, the former Republican secretary of education, off base. The White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, said that President George W. Bush "believes the comments were not appropriate." Mr. Bennett has said the remarks were taken out of context, noting that he immediately said such abortions would be "reprehensible." Mr. Bennett, who served as drug...

This morning while driving to work, Rick Robert's was going off on Bill Bennet for a statement he made either during his show or an interview. The clip he played was of Bennet saying (as best as I can remember): "If you really wanted to lower the crime rate - even though that would be horrendous and unthinkable, would be to abort all of the African Amercian babies." Robert's was saying how stupid this was and that Bennet had given all of the liberals/race baiters/etc. something to be critical of. However, Robert's did not play enough of the tape to...

William Bennett, conservative icon and co-founder of public policy organization Empower America, takes to the radio airwaves as one of Americas newest syndicated hosts. Beginning Monday, April 5, Bennett – along with veteran radio host Tom Tradup – will host "Bill Bennett's Morning in America," via the Salem Radio Network, 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. EDT. The morning drive program will feature live guests and a "new look" at today's issues. Although the field of radio hosts is crowded – even as liberals like Al Franken join their ranks – Bennett will have a natural, nationwide audience who like his...
