A Canadian study has found that Mainline Protestant churches that have both modern worship services and teach a literal interpretation of the Bible grow faster. (Photo: Reuters/John Gress)A parishioner cries as he signs a song of worship in the 7,000-seat Willow Creek Community church during a Sunday service in South Barrington, Illinois, November 20, 2005. Institutions like Willow Creek and Houston's Lakewood Church, each drawing 20,000 or more on a weekend, offer not just a vast, shared attraction but a path that tries to link individuals on a faith-sustaining one-to-one level beyond the crowd, observers and worshipers say.The Canadian researchers who authored...

I hold to a doctrine that many would probably consider to be unorthodox, some would even dare call it heresy (though notable ministries such as GotQuestions say it is a valid scriptural interpretation, though they reject it). It's called Conditionalism, sometimes Annihilationism, and in a nutshell it is the belief that the unsaved (those who die apart from Christ) do not possess immortality and after a period of punishment proportional to their sins will be utterly destroyed - body and soul. A chief proof-text is Matthew 10:28: Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot...

(CNSNews.com) – Secretary of State John Kerry has hinted that he may be involved in one final push on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, amid growing speculation – and concern among Israel supporters – that President Obama may use the period between next week’s election and the end of his administration to break the deadlock. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that according to administration sources, “the White House has asked the State Department to develop an options menu for the president’s final weeks.” It said the possibilities could include supporting – or not vetoing – a U.N. Security Council resolution...

...We always want to be as strong as possible in facing any challenge; we prefer to have as many resources as possible at our disposal. We have no problem if the odds are on our side; in fact we prefer that to be the case. But God has a different perspective. Look at all of the furor stirred up over our country’s defense budget cuts – anything that would weaken our military advantage; we already have such a decisive advantage due to technology; but we hate to see our forces reduced or any steps taken that would put us at...

Consider the words of Hosea 4:1-3, God's judgment on the land that is tainted by widespread, unrestrained sin: Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land:“There is no faithfulness, no love,no acknowledgment of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery;they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. Because of this the land dries up, and all who live in it waste away;the beasts of the field, the birds in the skyand the fish in the sea are swept away. Now ponder...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday expressed concern that U.S. President Barack Obama, during the final days of his term in office, might take diplomatic steps that could harm the fate of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank. Israel is concerned that the United States might not rally to its assistance in the event that an anti-settlement resolution is put to a vote in the United Nations Security Council and that Washington might not use its veto to quash such a move.

JERUSALEM (AP) — The charred lump of a 2,000-year-old scroll sat in an Israeli archaeologist's storeroom for decades, too brittle to open. Now, new imaging technology has revealed what was written inside: the earliest evidence of a biblical text in its standardized form. The passages from the Book of Leviticus, scholars say, offer the first physical evidence of what has long been believed: that the version of the Hebrew Bible used today goes back 2,000 years.

Went to Burger King today, and noticed at the bottom of the receipt a Bible verse: "Psalms 20:4 (NIV) May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed." Maybe the owners of this franchise deserve a little recognition for their stand. Seems Chick-fil-A and a few others have taken a stand while others have turned tail and ran from their faith. So, if you are ever in the Castle Rock, Colorado area, the two Burger King restaurants are owned by the same company. Even if you don't eat there, maybe send them a nice...

From a charred Hebrew scroll, researchers resurrected one of the earliest known versions of the Old Testament using a new digital reconstruction technique that may prove invaluable in revealing words from other previously unreadable finds, said scientists who plan to make the imaging software freely available. In research published in Science Advances Wednesday, computer analysts at the University of Kentucky in Lexington detailed the technology they used to reveal text within a roll of parchment reduced to charcoal in a burning synagogue 1,500 years ago, “virtually unwrapping” the scroll without ever actually touching the artifact. While important to archaeologists, the...

In New York meeting, which lasted about half an hour, Obama raised 'profound U.S. concerns about the corrosive effect' of settlement activity, American official says, adding that Netanyahu pushed back.'They've never papered over their differences,' he says. New York – U.S. President Barack Obama told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday that continued construction at the Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is threatening the future of the two-state solution. According to a senior American official, in their half-hour long meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Obama raised "profound U.S. concerns...

Archaeologists believe they have found the location of the battle between David and Goliath, narrated in the Book of Samuel, in a mysterious two-gated city from the early 10th century. Known by its modern name, Khirbet Qeiyafa, the site is located in the the Elah Valley, 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem. The excavation project took nearly seven years, and was led by Professor Yosef Garfinkel, the Yigal Yadin Chair of Archeology at Hebrew UniversityÂ’s Institute of Archeology in Jerusalem, together with SaÂ’ar Ganor from the Israel Antiquities Authority and Professor Michal Hazel of Southern Adventist University of Tennessee. Through the...
