Republicans are now in control of a record 67 (68 percent) of the 98 partisan state legislative chambers in the nation, more than twice the number (31) in which Democrats have a majority, according to the bipartisan National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Next year, the GOP will control both legislative chambers in 32 states - an all-time high, according to NCSL - while Democrats will have total control of just 13 state legislatures. In 24 of the 32 states with Republican-controlled legislatures, voters have also elected Republican governors. In contrast, Democrats have a “political trifecta” in just six states....

At Hillary Clinton's first public appearance tonight since making a concession speech one week ago today in New York City, she was candid about her post-election state of mind and encouraged Americans to remain defiant following her defeat. Speaking at the Children's Defense Fund's 26th annual Beat the Odds Celebration in Washington, D.C., Clinton said, "I know this isn't easy. I know that over the past week a lot of people have asked themselves whether America was the country we thought it was. The divisions laid bare by this election run deep. But please listen to me when I say...

President-elect Donald Trump's immigration adviser Kris Kobach warned Tuesday no one living here illegally will get a "free pass" and predicted many immigrants would leave as jobs and benefits "dry up." Kobach, one of the architects of Arizona's anti-immigration law SB1070, made the statement on Fox News when he was asked what Trump plans to do about people who are illegally, but are working hard and are not regarded as criminals. Kobach reached back to the immigration speech Trump made in August in Phoenix, when there were thoughts then-candidate Trump might be easing his view on immigrants. In that speech,...

According to the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer and the Washington Post, F.B.I. Director James Comey acted on his own when he, 11 days before the election, disclosed on Friday that new emails had been discovered which may or may not be relevant to the agency’s closed investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State. Comey, by informing Congress of the evidence, apparently disregarded the opinions of Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Justice Department officials, who had reminded him of the department’s policy of not commenting on ongoing investigations nor acting in such a way...

With only a few days to go before the election, the political world has erupted Friday when the FBI decided to reopen their case on Hillary Clinton's private email server. While details of scarce, several theories have emerged. The best theory we've heard is this: James Comey was forced into reopening the case. If the FBI director hand hadn't been forced, the entire government would be brought down. Basically, this whole thing was to protect Obama -- in other words, they're maybe sacrificing Hillary to save Obama. A conversation from 4chan:

Amid one of the most hotly contested presidential elections in generations — and one in which the Republican presidential candidate has claimed that the balloting process if “rigged” — thousands of New Jersey voters are at risk of not having their votes counted in November. Clerks in at least three Republican-heavy counties have reported that hundreds of mail-in ballots were erroneously returned to voters instead of being delivered to the county election boards. The problem is with new Post Office equipment that was unable to properly read the mailing address on some — but not all — ballot envelopes mailed...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Calling the state's current law "illogical" and "bizarre," a federal judge late Sunday ordered the state of Florida to give thousands of voters a chance to make sure their vote-by-mail ballots are counted. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker ruled that county election offices should notify voters if their signature on a vote-by-mail ballot and their voter registration forms don't match. Voters would then be given a chance to fix the problem by 5 p.m. the day before the election. The Florida Democratic Party sued the state because currently voters who don't sign their vote-by-mail ballot are...

TAMPA - About 200 people walked out of Amy Schumer's comedy show at the Amalie Arena in Tampa Sunday when she mocked Donald Trump as, among other things, an "orange, sexual-assaulting, fake- college-starting monster." (Read Jay Cridlin's review of the show). Loud booing from a vocal, but small minority of the arena crowd started about halfway through the show, when Schumer's raunchy humor veered into more topical matters, including gun control and the presidential election. She has been a vocal advocate for stricter gun laws since a man opened fire during a showing of her movie Train Wreck last year,...

Alaska’s two senators have resigned from leadership posts in their state’s Republican Party after denouncing Donald Trump, according to a new report. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan voluntarily stepped down over the weekend as honorary members of their party’s state central committee, The Associated Press said Wednesday. The AP said it confirmed the pair’s decision Tuesday with Murkowski campaign spokesman Robert Dillon. Party officers are expected to back party candidates. The unusual move follows several GOP officers in Alaska resigning their posts last month to publicly back Republican-turned-Libertarian Joe Miller in his bid to replace Murkowski in this fall’s...

Hillary Clinton has absolutely no leg to stand on when it comes to defending women. Her husband was accused of rape, sexual misconduct by many women, and of course we all know how he preyed on that one young White House intern. He’s a really bad guy. But Hillary thought it would be a good idea to go after Trump for misogyny. It didn’t work out so well. "This is horrific. We cannot allow this man to become president." - Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) October 7, 2016 Wow. Bold move. What did Twitter have to say?
