Have you seen Question Time on BBC1 tonight? Among the panelists was Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt. They talked about the NHS (National Health Service), welfare, pensions, youth unemployment, housing crisis. If you haven’t seen it you can watch it on BBC iPlayer online. Interesting points have been: the idea of forcing owners to sell or develop property on unused land seems popular (although some people would probably forcibly impose developing, which seems to me communist-style; the idea of a tax on unused land or brownfield sites to make owners sell or develop is better). the average age of people...

Lansing, MI––A recently discovered DVD found in the attic of the Williams family last night has shed light on the language and accent used by the Son of God while on earth, the Lansing family is reporting this morning. After close to 2,000 years, the mystery of Jesus’ dialect and accent was answered after the Williams family’s stunning find while watching a DVD of the 1977 television miniseries of Jesus of Nazareth produced by the BBC. The 2-DVD set, which many in the Williams family believed was “lost forever” showed Jesus of Nazareth speaking in English, a shocking revelation...

Veteran BBC broadcaster Paul Gambaccini has been arrested as part of a wider British inquiry set up to examine sexual abuse stemming from claims against late presenter Jimmy Savile. The US-born radio and TV presenter, 64, confirmed his arrest in a statement but denied the allegations. He was released on bail following his arrest on Tuesday, which the BBC had previously refused to confirm. The BBC said the DJ would not be presenting his weekly radio show for "coming weeks".

A former BBC driver was found dead yesterday as he was due to stand trial for sex crimes uncovered as part of the Jimmy Savile inquiry. David Smith, 67, chauffeur to Savile and other celebrities during the 1980s is believed to have committed suicide on the eve of his court appearance. Police were called to Smith’s address after receiving a court summons at 1pm when he failed to appear for trial. A team of detectives discovered his body in his third-floor council flat in Lewisham, south-east London, shortly after breaking in at 2.20pm.

'Nine missing episodes of 1960s Doctor Who have been found at a TV station in Nigeria, including most of the classic story The Web of Fear. The black and white story sees Patrick Troughton's second Doctor battle robot yeti in the London Underground. Also recovered is a complete version of Troughton's six-part story The Enemy of the World. It is thought to be the largest haul of missing episodes recovered in the last three decades. "It's thrilling," said Mark Gatiss, an actor and writer for the 21st Century incarnation of Doctor Who. "Every single avenue seemed to have been exhausted,...

The discovery will cause much excitement for devotees of the long-running series, for which there are dozens of missing episodes dating back to its early years The previously lost nine shows were among 11 traced to a television relay station and the find brings back to life an entire six-episode story, while another is almost complete. The newly found programs—which introduce the character of Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart, better known to audiences...

What fun I had last night watching Question Time on the BBC. Author Will Self - in the video that you can see by clicking on the link just below this post title - (his name is oddly suited to him, but then everything about the man is weird) is always very entertaining. This time he surpassed himself, by denying that terrorism is a problem - especially, God (or rather Allah) forbid, Islamic terrorism. This pearl of wisdom came in answer to a question from the audience about the risk of a terror attack in Britain after what happened in...

While a horrified world watches the images coming out of Kenya in the aftermath of the massacre at a Nairobi mall perpetrated by Islamic fundamentalists, another less bloody but just as morally reprehensible atrocity unfolded online: the sickeningly biased coverage of the attack produced by some mainstream media outlets determined to provide cover for the jihadists. The BBC’s lead story this afternoon was almost a study in journalistic malfeasance: an archetypal example of how left-leaning Western journalists will violate their own consciences — and the basic principles of reporting — in their relentless quest to hide the truth. Such bias...

Photographer Marco di Lauro said he nearly “fell off his chair” when he saw the image being used, and said he was “astonished” at the failure of the corporation to check their sources. The picture, which was actually taken on March 27, 2003, shows a young Iraqi child jumping over dozens of white body bags containing skeletons found in a desert south of Baghdad. It was posted on the BBC news website today under the heading “Syria massacre in Houla condemned as outrage grows”.

THE Vatican is bracing itself for a rent boy scandal after a convicted pedophile priest apparently sought vengeance by informing on other child abusers in the Roman clergy. Don Patrizio Poggi, who served a five-year sentence for abusing five 14 and 15-year-old boys at his parish on the outskirts of the Italian capital, has reportedly handed names to police. So far, four people have formally been placed under investigation by Rome magistrates.

Yes, Minister was among my few favorite television programs back when I watched television in the United States. Here is a twenty-nine minute segment of Yes, Prime Minister, wherein the new British PM, Mr. Hacker, decides that "the time is not right" for his Grand Plan -- that Britain cancel Trident and reinstitute the military draft. Might President Obama's advisers learn something from PM Hacker's advisers? Possibly, although they already seem quite adept at stifling any of President Obama's good ideas -- of which he appears to have had had very few if any. If you want some laughs, watch it....

  • BBC bias towards pro-immigration: 'left-wing Corporation downplaying violence by Islamists'

The BBC gives too much weight to pro-immigration voices and ‘almost totally ignores’ the negative social impact of multiculturalism, a new study has claimed. The corporation suffers from left wing ‘groupthink’ that prevents its journalists from challenging institutional bias and results in pro-immigration ‘propaganda’, according to the research published yesterday. It was also accused of ‘downplaying’ violence by Islamists while being happy to criticise Christianity and report on the activities of other violent extremists. The report, by independent think-tank The New Culture Forum, looked at coverage by BBC news and current affairs programmes since 1997.

...media elites are obsessed with sexual abuse testimonies when the Catholic Church is in the firing line. But, when children and adults are abused by powerful secular priests, watch them tiptoe away, or downplay events. There are numerous examples: I have to ask, where’s the loud, moral outrage surrounding the late Jimmy Savile’s five decades of abuse against vulnerable minors and women? After all, it’s understood that the child-abusing BBC presenter even sexually assaulted ill children in their hospital beds. I have to ask, where’s the media interest in serious allegations surrounding two male executives and the abuse of young...

Mark Mardell, the BBC's North American editor, issued a mea culpa of sorts today after Jonathan Karl at ABC News dropped his bombshell that proves beyond any doubt that the Obama Administration lied about its involvement in editing the CIA's talking points surrounding the September 11 attack on our consulate in Libya. In a piece titled, "After Benghazi revelations, heads will roll," Mardell writes, "In the interests of full disclosure I have to say I have not in the past been persuaded that allegations of a cover-up were a big deal." He adds, "It seemed to me a partisan attack...

As the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is set to welcome former Times newspaper editor James Harding as its new director of current affairs, Jews in the United Kingdom are likely to be hopeful that the broadcaster is more friendly to Israel in its news coverage after a report found that nearly four out of five Jews believe the network is biased against the Jewish state. … The report, based on an online poll by the Institute for Jewish Policy Research, found that even though most Jews believe the BBC doesn’t support Israel enough, they still watch it anyway, with 88%...

An amazing example of the power and possibilities of social media. Thatcher haters in England have made the "Wizard of Oz" classic song "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" the number one selling single in the country. And the "munchikins" who appeared in the film are none too pleased: Ruth Duccini, 94, and Jerry Maren, 91 -- who sang the ditty -- said: "It's terrible." Saddened Munchkins said it was monstrous to hijack the song -- as the BBC fudged a decision whether to play it. Ruth, among those who sang the song in 1939's Wizard Of Oz, believes the...

Ding Dong the Witch is Dead, a song from the Wizard of Oz, has sold 20,000 copies this week after anti-Thatcher campaigners encouraged people to buy it to celebrate the death of the former Prime Minister. It is currently number four and on course for a place in the top five by the time The Official Chart Show airs on Sunday, three days before Lady Thatcher’s funeral.
