The next head of the UN global climate talks has appealed for the US to "save" Pacific islands from the impacts of global warming. Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said that the islands needed the US now as much as they did during World War Two. He was speaking as global climate talks in Marrakech came to an end. A 5,000-year-old Venus figure and a seal have been found in an excavation. A 5,000-year-old Venus figure has been found as part of an excavation being carried out in Çanakkale's Ezine district. The excavation began in the field three weeks ago in cooperation with Germany's University of Tübingen. Army commander Commander Voreqe has taken over as head of state Bainimarama announced a short while ago that he was doing this to end the impasse. Dr Jona Senilagakali will be caretaker Prime Minister until an interim administration is appointed. Bainimarama said he had no intention of arresting the Prime Minister or other ministers. He said the 1997 Constitution was intact except for parts relating to the emergency powers.
