A gun that spits out ball bearings after spinning them to extreme speeds is being developed by a US inventor. The novel design has already caught the imagination of some defence industry experts. The weapon, called DREAD, was invented by Charles St George, a veteran of the US firearms industry who founded the company Leader Propulsion Systems to promote the idea. He claims a major US defence company has shown an interested in developing it further and has produced a promotional video showing a prototype in action, which can be seen here (Quicktime). He says a new prototype will be...

Anyhow a resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around kind of strange like in the developments pond and when he went to investigate, it was a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's basketball which became stuck in its mouth. The fish was totally exhausted from trying to dive but unable to because the ball would always bring him back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball out but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to deflate the ball and release the catfish....

A large black ball, originally designed by Swedish scientists for use on Mars, could be the latest weapon in the war against burglars. Telegraph Financial Services & Reader Guides The device, developed at the University of Uppsala, acts as a high-tech security guard capable of detecting an intruder thanks to either radar or infra-red sensors. Once alerted, it can summon help, sound an alarm or pursue the intruders, taking pictures. It is capable of travelling at 20mph, somewhat faster than a human being. Even worse for intruders, the robot ball can still give chase over mud, snow and water. The...

I attended the W2 Ball and unfortunately left my camera. I was wondering if anyone found a Minolta "box" camera. I don't really care about the camera, but I had some really adorable photos of my one year old daughter in it. If you found a camera, or even if you sympathize, please post here. Thank you!!!

I haven't edited them yet because I don't have my new laptop set up for everything yet, so here are a few pictures from last night:::

I was just surfing and happenned to land on Peter Jennings' biased ABC segment on the inauguration and how it was funded by private dollars. They showed some hack who was saying how inappropriate corporate funding of the event was, and basically saying the sponsors, who had been criticized for being stingy with their employees, were buying influence. They showed some lady saying how many armored hummers and bulletproof vests $40 mil could have bought.1. Everytime Bush does anything on the taxpayers' nickel they shout and wail about how he shouldn't be paying for this or that with taxpayer dollars.2....

Paula Miller scored a major victory for the Democratic Party and the moderate wing of the Republican Party Tuesday, besting conservative Michael Ball in a tight special election for the 87th district in the House of Delegates. According to unofficial results, Miller, a former WTKR-TV reporter, defeated Ball, a Regent University official, by 92 votes out of 7623 cast in the 87th, which includes Ocean View, Bayview and neighborhoods adjacent to East Little Creek Road. Miller ran as a Democrat but received $50,000 in campaign contributions from a new political action committee formed to support Republicans who have split with...

Editorial | Inaugural Ball Cancel this bash during a time of war Thank you, Claire Gawinowicz of Oreland. Her letter in yesterday's Inquirer made this excellent suggestion: Cancel inaugural balls for President Bush's next term as a show of sacrifice during a time of war. The President would make a powerful statement if he did so. Numerous presidents have shunned them since the first official ball was held in 1809 for James Madison. Franklin Pierce declined to celebrate while mourning the fresh loss of his son in 1853. Franklin D. Roosevelt skipped them during the Depression and World War II....

Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and his rock 'n' roll band, Capitol Offense, will headline the Jan. 20 inaugural ball hosted by Free Republic, a grass-roots conservative news, analysis and activism forum, in Washington. It's a repeat performance for the 49-year-old Mr. Huckabee, whose gubernatorial term expires in 2007. Because of the high-spirited show put on by his band at the 2001 Free Republic Inaugural Ball and Count the White House Silverware Party, guests left other inaugural balls in favor of the governor's less-formal gig, which, this year, honors the U.S. armed forces.

Are you single and/or dateless and going to the Free Republic Ball? I've been scouring the Ball related threads and it seems there are several people in this predicament. I thought I'd start a thread so we could organize the singletons and meet up at the Ball. Newbies also welcome. (I'm a bit of a newbie myself)
