If someone told U.S. Air Force Capt. Nathan Tilton one year ago that he would have a hand in the upcoming presidential inauguration, he would’ve called them a liar. “From the time I was given the heads up to now, still feels quite surreal,” said Tilton. The Sierra Vista native joined the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) in support of the 58th Presidential Inauguration, which will take place Jan. 20. The task force is charged with coordinating all military ceremonial support for the inaugural period. Tilton is the operations officer of the task force’s Joint Team of Records. “Our...

An Arizona abortion facility filed a lawsuit Thursday to stop the state Attorney General’s Office from receiving detailed information about its handling of aborted babies’ body parts. ADVERTISEMENT ADVERTISEMENT The Arizona Republic reports Camelback Family Planning, a Phoenix abortion facility, wants a judge to prohibit state investigators from reviewing certain records and to invalidate a subpoena for its owner, Gabrielle Goodrick, to testify. The abortion facility’s lawsuit claims that the attorney general’s office wants to inspect unredacted records of “patients who have had abortions and donated fetal tissue.” It also argues that Goodrick could have to testify about patients under oath.The...

I voted early today.  Usually a vote a couple of hours later, but a little after 7:00, I was in line, waiting to vote. I thought the number of people voting might be sparse, so I asked Esther, an election worker for 13 years, how the turnout was. She said: "This is amazing. Usually at this time, it is me and the birds in the parking lot!" She said the voting had been steady, at much higher levels than she was used to.  I did a little totally unscientific exit polling. I asked the couple behind me in the...
  • Tucson Illegally Destroyed a Million Dollars worth of Guns since 2013

Handguns from an Arizona Turn In Event, 2013 In 2013, the Arizona Legislature passed HB 2455, to prevent the destruction of valuable firearms by lower levels of government in the state. No penalties were imposed. It is not normal for local governments to destroy valuable property, at least not when the property can be legally sold for the public benefit. But in this case, the property was being destroyed for ideological purposes, not for pragmatic ones. The purpose of destroying valuable guns is to send the propaganda message: guns bad.  Some cities, especially Tucson, refused to obey the law....

That is a good sized bobcat and a small coyote.  The confrontation took place at my ranch at 0918 on October 9th, 2016, according to the game camera. This shows the coyote 12 minutes earlier.  I suspect she sensed the bobcat at that time, but it did not show up on the camera. I keep the water running to attract wildlife.  The water hole is about 10 yards from the pistol range backstop. Deserts do not support a tremendous biomass, so wildlife is much less common than in many other areas.  I do not have livestock, and have no...

E.J. Montini, an Arizona journalist and opinion writer, has been a reliable gun hater.  He is quite willing to call for the legislature to pass laws that chip away at the Second Amendment.  I suspect that he wants people to follow them. But when the legislature passes common sense laws that limit cities’ power, he is all for city officials breaking the law.  From azcentral.com: Finally, it looks like someone is standing up to the biggest bully around, the Replican-controlled Arizona Legislature. As well as its sidekick and enforcer, the gun lobby. Last session, Senate President Andy Biggs pushed through...
  • Attorney General Investigation of City of Tucson for Illegal Destruction of Firearms

Image from kgun9.com The Tucson City Council has become a notorious scofflaw for ignoring state law that involves firearms. Arizona has a state preemption law, to prevent a confusing patchwork of local laws, which could easily entrap innocent people who exercise their Second Amendment rights.  The Tucson City Council has ignored the law. Arizona also requires that valuable firearms that come into the possession of the police must be sold to federal firearms dealers, so that the value will be used for the public good.  Tucson has been accused of destroying these valuable items, presumably to make some sort...

Bernie Sanders held rally in support of Hillary Clinton in Arizona Tuesday. He was briefly interrupted by protester who called Bill Clinton a 'rapist.' It's one of many incidents that have occurred since Donald Trump brought three women to second presidential debate who accused Clinton of 'rape' Hundreds of people packed an auditorium in Arizona .... The Vermont senator first apologized to his audience at Northern Arizona University for 'the mistakes my generation made', before launching an attack on Donald Trump.... But Sanders was then interrupted by a protester who was wearing a Bill Clinton t-shirt. Security dragged the man...

I attended the Arizona Citizens Defense League annual meeting in Phoenix on Saturday, 8 October, 2016.  It was a 170 mile drive, one way, from Yuma. Usually I take a friend, but I was slow this year, and the meeting and annual dinner was sold out before I invited anyone. You can see the crush crowd outside the meeting hall, registering to get in. The majority, about 80%, were openly carrying. AzCDL is one of the most successful state groups that have organized to restore the right to keep and bear arms.  The group was founded by Fred Dahnke...

Anyone who is still wondering how to vote on November 8, and who sincerely wants to vote their conscience, need only listen to this extraordinary homily given by a priest who knows exactly who to vote for. On October 2, 2016, the Very Reverend John Lankeit of the Diocese of Phoenix began his homily by warning the congregation that the devil is a divider who will use almost any tactic to separate Christians from Christ. “He doesn’t typically come right out and say, ‘Deny Jesus Christ!’ because he knows that someone who loves Jesus would immediately reject the suggestion. So,...

I often open carry, especially in the summer when the temperatures make concealed carry a bit more cumbersome.  I was open carrying at this Yuma, Arizona gas station when a man approached me. He asked if Arizona were an open carry state.  I said that it was, and went on to explain that most states were.  He said he was from Colorado, where open carry was forbidden in some cities.  Yes, I said, the Colorado Supreme Court had made a weird decision that Denver could ignore state law.  He said the city of Aurora also prohibited open carry in...

Mason and Joe after a successful day's hunt. As many have learned, teaching a skill can be more enjoyable than exercising it. Last year I took Joe hunting, and he shot his first doves.  In between seasons, I taught him to drive.  This year I asked if he wanted to go hunting again, and he did.  He asked if he could bring a friend, Mason.  Mason had already been dove hunting, he said.  After a few questions, I agreed.  Mason is 16.  The boys were up and ready at 05:30, as I had asked.  It was gratifying to see...

BULLHEAD CITY — Arizona U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake says he still has issues with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and is unlikely to vote for him. Flake, in Bullhead City on Wednesday, gave an exclusive interview to the Mohave Valley Daily News. “I’m not part of the ‘never Trump’ movement. I want to be able to vote for him, but I can’t see myself doing that, unless he changes the positions he’s taken and the language he’s used,” Flake said. “I don’t think he can win the presidency and if he doesn’t change the way he’s campaigned, I don’t think...

The last federal budget was signed into law September of 2007 for fiscal year 2008. Almost a decade has passed without a federal budget. The 2009 ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act), otherwise known as “The $1,000,000,000,000 ’09 Stimulus Bill”, has been spent every year for the past 7 fiscal years. That’s correct. Due to no budget, and base-line budgeting continuous resolutions, aka “omnibus bills”, we’ve spent the 2009 “Stimulus Bill” seven more times. Each year, for seven consecutive years. Ask yourself: Where did it go?

The FBI is sending out a warning that two local state election boards were breached by foreign hackers. This comes amid increasing concerns from Donald Trump supporters about the possibility of a “rigged” election. Several news outlets are reporting that the hacking occurred in Arizona and Illinois. In a bulletin the FBI wrote: The FBI received information of an additional IP address, 5.149.249.172, which was detected in the July 2016 compromise of a state’s Board of Election Web site. Additionally, in August 2016 attempted intrusion activities into another state’s Board of Election system identified the IP address, 185.104.9.39 used in...

Driving to the Ranch through the Mohawk valley, east of Yuma, I noticed the gentleman pictured above.  I stopped to take his picture and determine his business. You can see that the soil in this area is a fluffy loam.  It is highly productive, irrigated by Colorado River water.  This area near Yuma is some of the most productive agricultural land in the United States and in the world. Leo did not mind having his picture taken.  I asked him if he were guarding the field from birds that would eat the seeds.  No, he said, ground squirrels. He...

Pick up a loaded AK clone, point it at your boyfriend's face at point blank range while you pin him to the bed.  The gun just "went off".  He is dead, and the woman is charged with negligent homicide. I wonder if Rosario was right handed.  Are those bruises below her left eye? The articles note that Gabriella does not have any prior arrests.  I found two for a Rosario Soto Leon in the Phoenix area, one on March 7th, another on April 20th, both in Maricopa County. Without further ID, it is impossible to know if it is...
