Hours after extending a 24-hour ban that went into effect Tuesday, the FAA cancels flight restrictions in response to increased Israeli security measures. Just twelve hours after it renewed a 24-hour ban on US flights to and from Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, the Federal Aviation Authority on Thursday withdrew the ban, setting the stage for US and international carriers to resume flights. Europe's Aviation Safety Agency, which had issued a "strong recommendation" against flights to Tel Aviv, retracted its warning later in the day. Since the FAA ban on Tuesday, which followed the first successful Hamas rocket landing within the...

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - US Airways said it would resume flights to Israel later on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lifted a ban imposed two days ago when a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed near Tel Aviv airport. About 30 carriers had suspended services to Ben Gurion International Airport, Israel's main hub. Other major airlines have yet to announce a resumption of flights. Israel had criticized the FAA decision, saying the airport, was safe. Israeli airlines have picked up some of the slack. US Airways, a unit of American Airlines Group Inc, flies daily to...

Algeria's national airline, Air Algerie, says it has lost contact with one of its planes flying from Burkina Faso. Contact was lost about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou, the airline is quoted by Algeria's state news agency as saying. "In keeping with procedures, Air Algerie has launched its emergency plan," Air Algerie officials, quoted by APS news agency, said. The plane is chartered from Spanish airline Swiftair. In a...

Metal 3D printing is the Holy Grail of additive manufacturing. Unlike with other materials that can be printed, metal enables manufacturers to create end-use objects via 3D printing, objects which oftentimes outperform matter-1those produced with traditional casting techniques. In fact General Electric and Airbus are already saving money money using metal laser sintering machines to produce parts for anything from aircraft, to fuel nozzles. Additionally, once those products are installed for end-use, they continue to save money because of their light weight, great strength, and precise fit. The reductions of just a few kilograms on board an aircraft can save...

Scientists and engineers at BAE Systems have released some interesting details about some futuristic technologies that could be operative by 2040. Or earlier. BAE Systems has been studying futuristic aircraft shapes for quite some time. The projects the British Defense company is working on were recently unveiled through a series of animations which show how civil and military aviation of the future could be based on 3D printers capable to print UAVs on-the-fly during a mission; aircraft that can heal themselves; a Transformer long range aircraft which splits into a number of smaller aircraft when it reaches its target, and...

Crocodile might be responsible for plane crash in the Congo: UK investigators • Only one person survived the crash — as did the toothy reptile, though it was killed with machetes by rescuers sifting through the plane's wreckage. A plane crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo that left 18 people dead may have been caused by a crocodile. The animal is thought to have climbed out of a hold midflight and spooked the crew and passengers. They all panicked and ran towards the cockpit, and the forward shift in weight may have caused the plane to plummet to the...

A United Airlines flight carrying 348 people from Honolulu to Guam was diverted to the tiny Pacific island of Midway because of a “mechanical issue,” the airline said Saturday. An electrical odor filled the Boeing 777 aircraft and the airline was reviewing the mechanical problem that caused the diversion that occurred Thursday night local time. Midway Island — a remote, 2.4-square-mile atoll — is located about 1,300 miles northwest of Hawaii and was the site of an important U.S. military base during World War II. It is now home to a national wildlife refuge and has roughly 60 residents.

Spectators at a recent air show in Waddington, near Lincoln, were given a particularly close look at a fighter jet. Like a scene out of Top Gun, the plane screams over the heads of the crowd, only missing them by a few feet. People duck and jump for cover, with one observant man commenting: ‘That was a bit close, wasn’t it?’ The Turkish F16 jet can then be seen coming in to land, where the pilot presumably removes his cool-guy shades and gives the thumbs-up to an injured comrade. Tom Cruise would be proud.

Flaris, a new aviation company based in Poland, made an unexpected appearance at the Paris Air Show in June with its prototype of a single-engine personal jet, the LAR01. The all-composite design allows for sweeping lines, with a sharp nose, a cabin that seats four, and long, narrow wings for aerodynamic efficiency. - See more at: http://robbreport.com/aviation/flaris-personal-jets-take?utm_source=outbrain&utm_medium=relatedlinks&utm_campaign=aviation#sthash.PFsSTX3s.dpuf

A major Telecommunications firm pulled off an amazing surprise for one long-time customer. I have no idea how they got the idea, how they got the information necessary to know ahead of time that she would have the time of her life. It was obviously a three-minute advertisement but it seems absolutely genuine and I can't imagine how they did it.

A federal judge in Oregon says the process surrounding the federal government's "no-fly list" is unconstitutional. Specifically, U.S. District Judge Anna Brown said the process doesn't give Americans on the list an effective way to challenge their inclusion.

The vintage international lounge at the Gander airport in central Newfoundland is a time capsule where Italian marble and designer furniture still exude the faded glamour of world travel. It’s a vast room, its iconic yellow sofas whimsically arranged on a mezzanine overlooking terrazzo floors and sleek blue chairs where VIPs ranging from global leaders to the Beatles once stopped on transatlantic flights. It was opened by the Queen as a showcase of Canadian modernity in 1959. But the growing costs of preserving this cultural touchstone have raised the prospect that a more practical, smaller terminal will replace it. “We...

SAUSALITO, Calif. (CNN/KRON) — A swanky California hotel is offering decadent, high-tech accommodation in the hopes of luring high-end guests. That includes a unique way of delivering room service, via a drone. You can see in the video that the drone is holding two bottles of champagne — on their way to guests. It’s a flying bell hop. “I think we’re going to set ourselves apart,” said hotel manager Sieste Nabben. Nabben is the general manager of Casa Madrona, the hotel and spa that is offering the drone delivery service. They are located in Downtown Sausalito, right off the water....

DENVER - Thousands of potential FAA air traffic control trainees, with College Initiative Training (CTI) degrees or previous military experience, have been told by the federal agency they are no longer eligible for job interviews. Instead, the FAA has decided to accept less qualified applicants, apparently to satisfy concerns that the agency needs a more diverse workforce. "We were told through the FAA, if you want to be a controller you need to go through one of our CTI-approved programs," said CTI graduate Ryan Meryhew. In the past, Ryan Meryhew would have been considered "highly qualified" for the FAA's air...

(Reuters) - An office worker at an Ohio regional airport has died from head injuries she sustained after walking into a spinning airplane propeller, authorities said on Wednesday. Sarah Rhoads, 24, who worked at Start Skydiving, died Tuesday from injuries she suffered on Sunday at Middletown Regional Airport, which is about 40 miles (64 km) north of Cincinnati, authorities said. Rhoads was conscious with a severe injury to her skull when she was taken by helicopter to a Dayton hospital, a Middletown police report said.
