On Thursday, 19 March, 2015, a woman with a .44 magnum stopped a polar bear from attacking Jakub Moravec, 37, in the Svalbard archipelago. Polar bear attacks are expected there, and tourists are not allowed unless they carry a high powered firearm. In this case, the rifles were left outside the tents, but inside the protective alarm wire. The armed woman, mother of Zuzanna Hakova, shot the bear three times with the revolver. From telegraph.co.uk: They were lucky to be alive after a polar bear broke into their tent on a remote Norwegian island and tried to maul them....
  • “Ottoman Empire was launching similar attacks during its fall”

Speaking about Turkey's invasion attack on Afrin, Syriac journalist Jacob Mirza said that the Ottoman Empire launched similar kind of attacks before its fall. In an interview with ANF Turkish service, Jacob Mirza, a prominent Syriac journalist working for Suroyo TV, criticized Turkish attack on Afrin and said that the main reason behind the attack is Erdogan's loss of power. "Despite all the oppression, the arrest of the opponents and critics of the regime, Erdogan cannot stand in front of the popular opposition. Even the polls of Erdogan show that he won't win the elections in 2019" Mirza said. According...

The Arab Youth Movement of Shehba region joined the Afrin Resistance against the occupying Turkish army and its affiliated Islamist groups. As a result of Turkish artillery shelling, multiple houses were damaged in the Yezili village of Basufanê, of the Shêrawa district. Although there were material damages, there was no death or injury. Heavy clashes occurred between the Turkish forces and the Syrian Democratic...
  • Mixed Messages From U.S. as Turkey Attacks Syrian Kurds

The New York Times ^ | JAN. 23, 2018 | MARK LANDLER, CARLOTTA GALL and ERIC SCHMITT
WASHINGTON — The White House sent out a message aimed at mollifying Turkey’s president on Tuesday, suggesting that the United States was easing off its support for the Syrian Kurds. That message was quickly contradicted by the Pentagon, which said it would continue to stand by the Kurds, even as Turkey invaded their stronghold in northwestern Syria. The conflicting statements appeared to reflect an effort by the administration to balance competing pressures. Turkey, which has been furious over American support for the Kurds, is a NATO ally, while the Kurds have been critical American partners in the war against the...
  • Don’t abandon the Kurds to the ‘mercies’ of Turkey’s tyrant

The United States has been the protector and ally of the Kurds for a quarter-century. And the Kurds have proven to be, man-for-man and woman-for-woman, the best fighters in the region. Without Kurdish boots on the ground, we would not have made the sweeping progress achieved against the Islamic State caliphate. Now, with ISIS crushed (but still wriggling and snapping), we’re turning our backs on our Kurdish allies in Syria as they’re attacked by a NATO ally gone rogue — Turkey, which is led by an Islamist strongman, the odious “President” Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Kurds have been butchered en masse,...

After a multi-day artillery barrage, the Turkish Army has begun its push into Afrin, a district of Syria which has been governed by Syrian Kurds ever since they defeated al Qaeda and Islamic State terrorists. Turkish officials say they plan to set up a buffer zone extending almost 20 miles into Syria from the Turkish border. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a blistering speech threatening Turkey’s Kurds if they speak up on behalf of their Syrian counterparts and promising victory within “a very short period of time.” That may be a fatal miscalculation, one which could cripple Turkey. Erdogan’s...

Press StatementHeather NauertDepartment Spokesperson Washington, DC January 21, 2018 As expressed by Secretary Tillerson in calls to his Turkish and Russian counterparts yesterday, the United States is very concerned about the situation in northwest Syria, especially the plight of innocent civilians who are now faced with an escalation in fighting. We continue to be supportive of addressing the legitimate security concerns of Turkey as a NATO Ally and critical partner in the effort to defeat ISIS. However, we urge Turkey to exercise restraint and ensure that its military operations remain limited in scope and duration and scrupulous to avoid civilian...

Egypt has also voiced opposition to the Turkish state’s invasion operation against Afrin Canton of Northern Syria. The Foreign Ministry of Egypt condemned the Turkish state’s “unacceptable” attack on Afrin, calling it an intervention against and violation of Syrian lands. In a statement about the operation, the Foreign Ministry pointed out that Turkey negatively affected the political efforts for the ending of terror in Syria, saying; “The attitude of Egypt towards military methods is clear as attacks against our Syrian brothers and sisters are increasing.” On the other hand, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of...

The Israel Defense Forces on Sunday said it had destroyed a border-crossing Hamas attack tunnel, the third in recent months, that penetrated hundreds of meters into both Israeli and Egyptian territory from the Gaza Strip, in an airstrike on Saturday night. “We completed the destruction of a third terror tunnel,” spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus told reporters early Sunday morning, denying claims made by Hamas that it was a smuggling tunnel. The tunnel, which was constructed differently from most tunnels in Gaza, began in the city of Rafah and crossed into Israel under the Kerem Shalom Crossing, through which hundreds...

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was just about to attack Michael Wolff for his book Fire and Fury when he decided to put a hold on the plans after President Donald Trump went all out in his criticism of his former staffer, reports CNN. Shortly after the first excerpts of the book were released in which Bannon was quoted as saying that Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was “treasonous” and “unpatriotic,” the former chief strategist planned to call the book “another lefty hatchet job.” But then Trump released his own statement saying Bannon had “lost his mind”...

Like the Meltdown bug, the Spectre bug is a hardware bug in the form of a CPU design flaw. Unlike the Meltdown bug which only affects Intel processors, the Spectre bug impacts Intel, AMD, and some ARM (used in many smart phones and other mobile devices) processors. These three are by far the most common CPUs on the planet, running literally billions of devices. In a Spectre attack, the CPU is tricked into executing instructions that it normally would not, causing leaks in the victims memory address space.

What is the Meltdown bug? Most of the bugs that make the news are software bugs, but the Meltdown bug is a hardware bug (in the form of a design flaw) that affects Intel processors going back several generations. In a nut shell, the Meltdown bug is a brand new way to (possibly) steal your information.

Authorities have arrested a 26-year-old man connected to the Islamic State (ISIS) who was allegedly plotting a terrorist attack in San Francisco over the Christmas holiday. The FBI reports that they arrested Everitt Aaron Jameson, a truck driver from Modesto, California. He referred to himself as Abdallah adu Everitt ibn Gordon. He is charged specifically with attempting to supply support to a foreign terrorist organization and he has posted pro-ISIS and pro-terrorist posts on Facebook. His intended target was San Francisco’s famous Pier 39. Jameson was apparently unknowingly chatting with an undercover FBI agent and was arrested earlier this week. A search...

Federal authorities on Friday charged a 26-year-old Modesto man with planning a terror attack on San Francisco’s Pier 39 after an undercover investigation that unfolded in recent weeks. Everitt Aaron Jameson, a tow-truck driver and discharged Marine, was charged in a criminal complaint filed at the U.S. District Court in Sacramento with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization — in this case the Islamic State. ...... Jameson explained that he also desired to use explosives and described a play in which explosives could ‘tunnel’ or ‘funnel’ people into a location where Jameson could inflict casualties,” McKinney...

On November 3, 2017, a man entered the private property of a sitting U.S. senator uninvited. He snuck up behind and assaulted the senator with such violence that he broke six ribs and damaged the senator's lungs, leading to pneumonia and severe pain. These injuries prevented the senator from returning to Congress for a crucial debate in which he played a leadership role. If a right-wing assailant had broken the bones of Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer, sending either of them to a pain-filled hospital bed, the outcry from both sides of Congress would have been ear-shattering. The left-wing media...

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A Salvation Army bell ringer was attacked in front of Walmart for simply spreading holiday cheer. We’ve all heard it; the jingle that means it’s nearly Christmas and ringing in sounds of hope for donations. But not everyone is in the giving spirit. “I greet everybody, 'Merry Christmas,'” said Rev. Jamie Wolfe, Sr. Sadly, those two simple words got this bell ringer knocked out. “He haymakered me, hit me, got me down on the ground and we started wrestling, at that point I’m fighting for my life,” Wolfe Sr. said. The man wasn’t after the kettle money,...
