ATLANTA -- Atlanta's mayor is promising a "safe, smooth and secure" college football championship game Monday, despite the traffic problems expected to be caused by President Donald Trump's motorcade, but none of the many agencies involved are taking any chances.

Citing two sources withing the administration, USA Today has confirmed that President Trump will attend Monday night’s national championship game between Alabama and Georgia. According to USA Today, the two sources didn’t speak publicly because the president’s schedule has not been made official. A dog was found buried alive in a dumpster last week outside a business in suburban Atlanta. Emily Goldstein told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that her neighbor found the beagle while taking out the trash at work. The neighbor and a few coworkers rummaged through the garbage to rescue the dog after he heard a whining sound coming from the dumpster, the paper reported. Goldstein told the paper she believes the beagle, which had no collar or form of identification, is between 1 and 2 years old. Veteran Atlanta news anchor Amanda Davis has died, according to CBS 46. She was 62. A complete power outage at the nation’s busiest airport, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, grounded flights Sunday afternoon, threatening to cause a holiday travel nightmare for fliers across the country just over a week before Christmas. An Atlanta woman was charged with murder after she allegedly put her two young sons in an oven and turned it on sometime between Thursday and Friday last week. Lamora Williams, 24, with murder in the deaths of 1-year-old son Ja'Karter Penn and 2-year-old Ke-Yaunte Penn. A disabled Marine veteran was shot and killed during a confrontation in his garage with would-be home invaders on Friday, police said.
