A man has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally setting a huge fire that brought down part of an elevated interstate highway in Atlanta, a collapse that is expected to complicate traffic for months in one of the nation's most congested cities. Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency Thursday night after fire officials extinguished a massive fire on I-85 in Atlanta that led to the collapse of a bridge on the crowded interstate. The bridge on I-85 northbound just south of Ga. 400 near Piedmont Road collapsed about 7 p.m., Atlanta fire spokesman Sgt. Cortez Stafford confirmed. The fire broke out at around 6 p.m. Atlanta fire officials told Fox 5 the blaze caught giant spools of plastic utility conduits which were being stored under the overpass. ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta United said Monday it is "taking measures internally" to address an anti-gay chant used by some fans attending the team's first Major League Soccer match. United spokesman Chris Winkler said the team was aware of the chant during Sunday night's 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls. In a statement to The Associated Press, the team said the chants "have no place in our matches" and fans participating in those chants will be removed from games.

A Georgia man and woman cried in court Monday after they were both sentenced to long prison terms for terrorizing a black child’s birthday party with Confederate flags, racial slurs and threats. A badly burned body found on the floor of a River North parking garage early Tuesday has been identified as a 60-year-old real estate attorney, officials said. Louis S. Two men in their late 20s were shot dead early Sunday morning outside a Checkers Drive-In restaurant near Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta. Ahmad Johnson, 27, of East Point, and Rickie Burke, 28, of Atlanta, died on the scene, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. David Worrell, 22, was in critical condition after being shot, and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital. Drugs were discovered at the scene, according to police. Atlanta’s deputy police chief says he’s concerned about an upward trend in murders across the city. So far this year, there have been six homicides in the city of Atlanta. That’s three times the amount the city had at this time last year. “We're concerned about the trend, anytime you have homicides, you’re concerned.
