If you had a decent history teacher in high school, you were taught that European democracies are slightly different from those in the Americas, both north and south. Democracies in this Western Hemisphere tend to be ethnic stews governed, with varying degrees of faithfulness, by constitutions and compacts. European democracies are built around nationalities — tribes of same-language peoples. A President Donald Trump and his “great again” appeals would push us closer toward the European model than we already are, his critics contend. If they’re right, a heightened season of racial tension could be in our Southern future. Some of...

Atlanta Police Department spokesman Donald Hannah says in a statement that Pierce was arrested early Saturday morning at the Loews Atlanta Hotel. New Orleans native Pierce is known for his television roles as Detective William "Bunk" Moreland on The Wire and Antoine Batiste on Treme. Wendell Pierce of ‘The Wire’ Arrested After Fight Over Bernie Sanders The bitter Democratic primary has now led to a Hollywood actor’s arrest: Hillary Clinton supporter Wendell Pierce was detained by Atlanta police early Sunday after an alleged assault on two Sanders supporters. Politics ain’t beanbag but, if press reports are to be believed, a well-known Hollywood actor and producer may have thrown more than a multi-colored children’s toy at a couple in Atlanta. Wendell Pierce, who turned in standout performances for HBO’s The Wire and Treme, was arrested after an altercation early Sunday morning at an Atlanta hotel. A...

A man is asking for $10 million after spending 529 days in jail for a crime he says he didn't commit. Darrick McDuffie was accused of shooting a man in 2012 in DeKalb County, but he says he didn't do it and the victim backs up the story. At one point, police thought McDuffie was responsible for shooting another man so they arrested him and booked him in jail, but there is no mention of him in the initial police report. "It's a fundamental miscarriage of justice," said Adam Klein, who is McDuffie's attorney. "He was just barely 20-years-old when...

An Atlanta-area woman who called for black people to “rise up and shoot every white cop” apologized for her Facebook post Friday. Prosecutors charged Ebony Dickens with terroristic threats and inciting a riot after they said she wrote, “I condone black on white killings. Hell they condone crimes against us,” and “death to all white cops nationwide” under her Facebook name Tiffany Milan last April. Yet they dropped the rap in exchange for her offering of remorse while surrounded by law enforcement officials at a news conference Friday, WSB-TV reported.

Emory University President James W. Wagner chalked his own free speech message onto a campus sidewalk after students protested over pro-Donald Trump messages that they said threatened their safety. Students had petitioned the administration to denounce the pro-Trump chalkings that began appearing throughout the Atlanta campus last week, saying the possibility that fellow students could support Mr. Trump made them feel unsafe at school. Roughly 40 students carrying signs such as “Stop Trump” and “Stop Hate” protested outside of the Administrative Building last week, chanting “You are not listening! Come speak with us, we are in pain!” Some students went...

What the heck is wrong with us? On Wednesday, Washington, D.C.’s entire Metro subway system shut down with almost no notice to perform emergency inspections, just days after a cable fire “crippled” three lines. The nation’s second-busiest rail system has been plagued by safety problems in recent years, including a 2015 incident where smoke from an electrical malfunction killed one person and a deadly 2009 crash on the system’s Red Line that killed nine people. And with a new Metro chief that has been vocal about returning to a culture that puts safety first, many say that Wednesday’s move is...

Wait… I thought Hillary Clinton was the champion of minority voters and the Social Justice Warriors? If so, this news is darned peculiar. At a rally in Atlanta, Georgia the security team covering the former Secretary of State hastily escorted a couple of attendees out of the facility yesterday for the outrageous crime of holding up some signs which the campaign staff had given them before the event began. Of course, they had altered the promotional material a bit by scrawling three little words on the back of one of the Hillary signs, and they weren’t we love you. (Atlanta...

Sunday, February 21, 2016: GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in Atlanta, GA at the Georgia World Congress Center. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM EST. For decades, students at Spelman — the elite historically black women's college — have spoken out about instances of sexual assault committed by students from Morehouse College, their unofficial brother school. I saw a huge waterfall pouring over a beautiful rock formation and the water looked like liquid glass so pure and transparent you could see all the rocks behind it . All around the base of the waterfall were people and they were enjoying the refreshing spray and droplets covering them as a beautiful misty spray and the droplets just seemed to hang in the air effortlessly and the sound of the waterfalls was the roar of His Voice. As I looked over where the water goes over the falls I saw Jesus with his bare feet standing in the...

On January 16, the Atlanta Progressive News (APN) used one sentence to explain a Democrat-proposed ban that will require owners to hand over "assault weapons" by the end of October 2016 and in the very next sentence mocked pro-gun citizens who "are already yelling that Democrats are trying to take their guns away.†In other words-Sentence 1: New Democrat-proposed bill means your "assault weapons" will be taken away. Sentence 2: Pro-gun people are already trying to malign the law by claiming Democrats want to "take their guns." Here are APN's exact words: This bill will require people who possess assault...
