  • ESPN Runs a Political Advertisement and Calls It a Sports Awards Show

ESPN fired Curt Schilling for giving his political opinion. The Worldwide Leader in Hypocrisy begged LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony to give theirs. One could say the tuxedoed quartet of All-Stars hijacked the ESPYs with a political harangue Wednesday night. But that would misunderstand a political advertisement as a purely sports show. As last year’s Caitlyn Jenner infomercial about transgenderism showed, the ESPYs airs as ideological indoctrination cross-dressing as sports awards show. And after James, Wade, Paul, and Anthony said their piece, the ESPYs provided a cameo role to Joe Biden and featured a grieving mom...

The annual ESPY awards are regarded as a joyous and tearful celebration designed to honor notable team champions and those incredible feats of individual fortitude. From the immortal "Don't Ever Give Up" speech delivered by an obviously frail Jim Valvano - the terminally ill coach who inspired millions with his emotional and defiant plea to find a cure for cancer - to the poignant final words of Stuart Scott - the recently deceased ESPN anchor, husband, and father - the ESPY's have embodied the physical prowess and perseverance of the human spirit for 22 years. In essence, they are the...
  • Disney Apparently Ordered Award for Jenner

In my previous post I discussed the possibility of bribery being involved in the selection of the so called courage award for the actor formerly known as Bruce Jenner. I had planned to ask in this post if Disney might have ordered ESPN to give the award to Jenner because it was thinking about a movie deal with him to take advantage of his previous association with the popular Kardashians. Then I discovered that Disney had premiered its own reality show about a man becoming a woman called “Becoming Us” at the same time as the Vanity Fair article and...
  • ESPN and Capital One Are Dishonoring Real Heroes

The decision by ESPN and Capital One to allow the actor previously known as Bruce Jenner to desecrate the Arthur Ashe courage award dishonors real heroes. Jenner has done nothing to deserve the Arthur Ashe award........ If Jenner accepts the award he will mark himself as a coward rather than a hero.

Michael Sam has been selected as the winner of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. The former Missouri defensive end, who likely will be taken in this week's NFL draft, will receive the award given to individuals who transcend sports at the 2014 ESPYS on July 16. Sam, the SEC's defensive player of the year this past season, has announced he is gay and would become the first openly gay player in the NFL. He said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that he hopes to inspire other athletes.

"A quarter of a century after the outbreak of Aids, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has accepted that the threat of a global heterosexual pandemic has disappeared," reports the Independent, a leftist London daily: In the first official admission that the universal prevention strategy promoted by the major Aids organisations may have been misdirected, Kevin de Cock, the head of the WHO's department of HIV/Aids said there will be no generalised epidemic of Aids in the heterosexual population outside Africa. [Snip] Oh, well, never mind! Anyone old enough to remember the 1980s will recall that America was subjected to a...

Post Office Issuing Arthur Ashe Stamp WASHINGTON - The post office is honoring star tennis player Arthur Ashe with a postage stamp. The first day of issue ceremonies for the 37-cent stamp were scheduled Saturday as part of Arthur Ashe Kids Day activities in New York. The stamp will be available nationwide on Monday. In addition to his tennis fame, Ashe established foundations to help disenfranchised youth and to support the fight against AIDS, which he contracted from a blood transfusion during heart surgery. Ashe, who died in 1993, was a native of Richmond, Va., where he learned to play...
