    The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | July 26, 2023 | Jonathan D. Salant and Anya Litvak
WASHINGTON — The White House on Wednesday began a new effort to crack down on methane emissions, a major contributor to climate change. The first-ever White House Methane Summit came at a time of severe heat across much of the U.S., including in Pittsburgh, where temperatures are expected to approach or exceed 90 degrees until the weekend. President Joe Biden established a new methane task force to work with state and local officials to detect leaks and reduce emissions. The White House said billions of dollars of natural gas are lost to leaks every year. In Pennsylvania, methane accounts for...
  • Tom Cotton Debuts Plan to Take Pharma Production Back From China

Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) introduced legislation Thursday to repatriate pharmaceutical manufacturing from China to America, aiming to reduce a dependency that could seriously limit the U.S. coronavirus response. The bill, which Cotton introduced with Rep. Mike Gallagher (R., Wis.), aims to severely curtail the volume of Chinese active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from the U.S. medical drug supply. The PRC currently produces most of the world's APIs—the "active ingredients" in commonly used drugs—leaving the United States and other nations critically dependent on it for medicines.

Anne Arundel County has filed a lawsuit against more than two dozen fossil fuel companies over the costs of dealing with the fallout of climate change. “Filing this suit is about protecting our taxpayers and businesses from the growing fiscal impacts of climate change,” County Executive Steuart Pittman (D) said in a statement. “The damage inflicted by these companies damages our environment, and creates massive costs that shouldn’t be borne on the backs of our residents.” The lawsuit seeks to help Anne Arundel County recover damages from companies whose “decades of deception” is harming land and infrastructure in the county,...

Please sign the petition if you agree. Force Google to Share its Monopolized Data (API) as a Public Commons. Google can't "own" the data in its database, that is intellectual property belonging to its content creators of all sizes, most small, average writers, thinkers and artists. Dr. Robert Epstein, testifying before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution on June 16, 2019, advocated the most equitable solution, for the U.S. Government to mirror AT&T's 1956 anti-monopoly Consent Decree sharing its technical patents with all other companies free of charge, resulting in vastly increased technical development and economic prosperity. A pandemic should have taken no one by surprise. Scientific and government bodies, not to mention science fiction writers and filmmakers, have been raising the alarm for years. Nor should anyone be surprised to learn that pharmaceutical chemical manufacturing—and the production of finished-dose generic drugs—has steadily moved to China and India as Western drug companies and contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) sought to cut costs and wash their hands of the highly polluting chemicals used to make drugs.
  • How did anyone gain access to their data without an API and WSDL? Facebook gave access knowing

Facebook gave access to their subscriber's data via API and WSDL. Nobody can access Facebook data without these two. Why isn't anyone asking Zuckerberg about this? I am proposing this for my wife who has been a programmer for over thirty five years. She's screaming at the television and heading for the wine bottle.Anybody have any thoughts about these "in depth" hearings. To me as a computer illiterate, it does seem like most of the questions are coming from people who don't understand the field.
  • Oil Industry: Obama’s Energy Tax ‘Would Thwart the Very Goals Expressed in His SOTU’

“President Obama’s call for a $95 billion energy tax hike would thwart the very goals expressed in his State of the Union address,” American Petroleum Institute (API) Pres. Jack Gerard said today. “America’s oil and natural gas renaïssance has done everything on the president’s State of the Union wish list for the middle class,” Gerard said, responding to Obama’s proposed budget. “Opposition to President Obama’s proposals is strong and bipartisan. The president’s annual call to raise taxes on U.S. oil and natural gas development would hurt job creation, infrastructure investment, the federal deficit, seniors on fixed incomes and domestic manufacturing.”...

Video at link. (CNSNews.com) – Jack Gerard, CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, says President Barack Obama is “factually incorrect” to say that the Keystone XL Pipeline will not benefit Americans. At the press conference in Washington Tuesday, CNSNews.com asked Gerard about Obama’s remarks in November about the pipeline, which, if approved, would transport crude oil from Canada and from two U.S. states to refineries on the Gulf Coast. Jack Gerard, CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, held a press conference with reporters on Jan. 6, 2015 following his annual State of American Energy speech in Washington, D.C. Energy: In yet another green folly, the lawless Environmental Protection Agency continues to fine gasoline producers for not using cellulosic biofuels in quantities that don't exist, making only more pain at the pump. Last month, a federal court dealt a serious blow to the Environmental Protection Agency's renewable fuels push by ruling that the agency exceeded its authority by mandating refiners use cellulosic biofuels, which aren't commercially available. The EPA's lawless response in a lawless administration was to raise its requirements. In 2005 and 2007, Congress twice amended the Clean Air Act to establish a renewable fuel standard (RFS) that...

I was on the road yesterday afternoon when the news broke that Susan G. Komen for the Cure was defunding Planned Parenthood.Since then abortion proponents and news organizations have worked themselves into a frenzy speculating why it happened and who is to blame – from George W. Bush, to new SGK VP of public policy Karen Handel. This is the first chance I’ve had to sit down and write what I know.I have a source who reaches into the SGK board of directors. My source told me in December this split was in the works but that SGK did not want...
  • Cheating by California teachers invalidates schools' test scores

    Los Angeles Times ^ | September 18, 2011 | By Howard Blume
Twenty-two California schools had their test scores thrown out this year. Nearly half the campuses lost their Academic Performance Index scores because of cheating by teachers. Several others were penalized because of help teachers gave students that violated rules. Additionally, some school scores were rejected because of what appeared to be accidental actions. In most cases, schools or school districts turned themselves in. Because of budget cuts, the state Education Department no longer conducts random audits at schools or scans test booklets for irregularities. The number of schools with invalidated test scores remains relatively small but is edging upward. In...
  • Bachmann’s $2 gas pledge prompts skepticism

Many energy industry experts are skeptical of Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s campaign promise to get gas back down to $2 a gallon if she’s elected. “One thing that annoys me the most about politicians is that many will say or do just about anything to get elected,” said Robert Rapier of Consumer Energy Report. “My immediate reaction to that was to wonder whether she is really that naive or simply making dishonest campaign promises that she knows she can’t keep. Neither trait is one I want in a president.” Bachmann skeptics say even if it were possible to lower...

(CNSNews.com) – Wanted: More domestic energy production and crude oil from Canada. That’s the gist of a new ad campaign sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute, a group that represents more than 470 oil and natural gas companies.Jack Gerard, president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, says if the U.S. develops its own oil and natural gas resources and imports more oil from Canada, the country could meet 92 percent of its liquid fuels needs by 2030, compared with 62 percent today.“Let me repeat that once again for emphasis,” Gerard told reporters during a conference call on Wednesday. “The analysis...

There should be no question about the certificate below. If there is any challenge to this fact, the only person who can do that is the President Himself. The only way to do that is by releasing one he thinks is more genuine than the one below.

The American Petroleum Institute has just released the results of its third annual “Energy IQ” survey, and it reflects that Americans’ knowledge about energy issues is lacking. The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, comes as President Obama and Congress are pursuing aggressive energy and climate policies that threaten the nation’s economy, and which will determine America’s economic competitiveness for years to come. Some high points from the survey: • When asked about the role fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal will play in meeting global energy demand, only 10 percent of respondents answered correctly that fossil fuels...

It was with more than a just a little amusement that I read the recent article, “A budget cure: Marijuana taxes?” which makes the claim, “In this desperate economy, some argue that legalizing and taxing marijuana could plug multibillion-dollar holes in federal and state coffers.” Potheads have for decades been using every angle they can to gain legalization for their habit, but this is a new one, to me. According to California “medicinal marijuana” retailer, Daniel Stein, “Cannabis is good for the economy. It’s been here the whole time, but it’s had a bad rap the entire time.” There are...
