CAIRO — Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is to step down, two sources told NBC News Thursday, as widespread protests against his 30-year rule continue to grip the country. Following an all-day meeting of the country's supreme military council, state television reported that the army's supreme council had expressed its "support of the legitimate demands" of the people. NBC News reported that a high-ranking source inside the president's office said Mubarak would step down and the newly appointed vice president, Omar Suleiman, would take over. This was then confirmed by a second source.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Aaron Rodgers has turned the Green Bay Packers into Super Bowl champions once again. Rodgers threw three touchdown passes and Nick Collins returned an interception for another score, leading the Packers to a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. This was Green Bay's fourth Super Bowl title. The Packers won the first two Super Bowls with Vince Lombardi coaching Bart Starr, and captured another with Brett Favre in January 1997. The Steelers trailed 21-3 before halftime. Ben Roethlisberger got them within 28-25 midway through the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass and a nifty 2-point...

Sean Hannity hosted radical Imam Anjem Choudary on his program last night. And, yes, the excruciating fifteen minute war-of-words did culminate with a flustered Hannity grumbling "you're one sick, miserable, evil SOB, but thank you for coming on anyway." But, in fairness to Hannity, Choudary's pretty far out there, admitting that he thinks adulterers should be stoned and that Sharia will one day be practiced worldwide. Nor is Hannity he only cable news anchor to dress down Choudary. Eliot Spitzer hosted the Imam before referring to him as a "heinous terrorist" and Fareed Zakaria remarked that debating with Choudary was...
  • Senate Votes Down Health Care Repeal Measure (51-47)

The Democratic majority in the Senate late Wednesday voted down a GOP measure to repeal the health care law. The vote was 47-51, largely along party lines. Senate Republicans, who are unified in their desire to repeal the bill, have known all year they had virtually no chance to pass a repeal measure. But Republicans campaigned in the midterm elections on a promise to "repeal and replace" the law, and they have been eager to show they are trying to follow through on their promise. The Republican-led House passed a repeal bill last month. With a Democratic president and Republicans...

Chris Matthews Compares Tea Party to the Muslim Brotherhood By Geoffrey Dickens Created 02/01/2011 - 7:19pm By Geoffrey Dickens | February 01, 2011 | 19:19 In just one segment, on Tuesday's Hardball, host Chris Matthews managed to hypocritically use violent "gun play" language, attack Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin and even likened the Tea Party to the Muslim Brotherhood. On the 5pm edition of Hardball Matthews actually compared potential Tea Party primary challenges of Republicans to the Muslim Brotherhood going after Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, as he asked GOP strategist John Feehery: "So the Muslim Brotherhood has a parallel role...

Five South Dakota lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require any adult 21 or older to buy a firearm “sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.” The bill, which would take effect Jan. 1, 2012, would give people six months to acquire a firearm after turning 21. The provision does not apply to people who are barred from owning a firearm. Nor does the measure specify what type of firearm. Instead, residents would pick one “suitable to their temperament, physical capacity, and preference.”

Federal District Court Judge Roger Vinson of the Northern District of Florida has just ruled that the individual mandate in Obamacare, that all must purchase insurance or pay a penalty, is unconstitutional. This was the lawsuit brought by the State of Florida in which 25 other states joined. Given the comments by the court during oral argument last December, the ruling comes as no real surprise. I have not had an opportunity to read the opinion, but, will update this post as soon as I do so. Update: Judge Vinson’s 78 page opinion not only declares the individual mandate unconstitutional,...

The control systems of Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant have been penetrated by a computer worm unleashed last year, according to a foreign intelligence report that warns of a possible Chernobyl-like disaster once the site becomes fully operational. Russia's envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, also has raised the specter of the 1986 reactor explosion in Ukraine, but suggested last week that the danger had passed. The report, drawn up by a nation closely monitoring Iran's nuclear program and obtained by The Associated Press, said such conclusions were premature and based on the "casual assessment" of Russian and Iranian scientists at Bushehr.

Editorial: Will Obama Lose Egypt? Posted 01/28/2011 06:56 PM ET An Ally Imperiled: What Egyptians are demonstrating against, whether they know it or not, is socialism. What they — and we — could end up with is another Iran. Is President Obama repeating Carter's Shah betrayal? Revolutions are like fires. They can make life better, or they can destroy. Three decades ago, Iran — after being saved from Soviet dominance by the U.S. in 1953 — traded in the flawed autocratic rule of the Shah for the bloodthirsty Islamist fanaticism of the Ayatollah Khomeini. At the time, Jimmy Carter's presidency...

The formal apology by Bloomington(IN) High School North principal Jeff Henderson was made public Thursday after a nearly two-hour meeting with student Shai Warfield-Cross, her family and other supporters.
