A senior military officer revealed that the head of the Al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf terror group, who carries a $1 million cash reward of his head offered by the US, planned to surrender because he was “already old.” Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez, the head of the military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincon), said the plan of Radulah Sahiron, the Abu Sayyaf leader, to surrender was relayed to him by Moro elders from the island province of Sulu. Aside from his advancing age, Galvez said Sahiron also expressed concern over the unabated “search and destroy” operation launched by the military against him...

Ronald Reagan's major achievement in his long war against the Soviet Union: presenting communism as a joke -- exposing the lies of the Soviet regime, exposing the misery under which its people were living, and explaining why Western values were preferable to Communist ones. This is exactly what the West, Hirsi Ali explains, should be doing with radical Islam. Western civilization is a humanist vision in which Christianity integrated Jewish wisdom, Greek philosophy and Roman law, thereby giving Western culture its distinctive character: freedom of speech and of the press, equal justice under law, the primacy of the individual, separation...

A military judge on Friday dismissed two relatively minor charges against the five prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center who have been accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Army Col. James Pohl accepted a defense argument that the five-year statute of limitations had run out on two non-capital charges: attacking civilian objects and destruction of property.

The Pentagon has revealed a US air strike in Afghanistan earlier in the week killed al Qaeda militant Qari Yasin, a well known figure in the Pakistani Taliban. Along with plotting an attack which killed two military personnel, Yasin was believed to have been the mastermind behind a deadly attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team. US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said: “The death of Qari Yasin is evidence that terrorists who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice.” Yasin was believed to have been responsible for a 2008 bombing on a hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan,...

Three intelligence sources told The Daily Beast that the ban on carry-on electronics aboard U.S.-bound flights from 10 airports in North Africa and the Middle East was the result of information seized during a U.S. raid on Al Qaeda in Yemen in January. The United Kingdom joined the U.S. ban Tuesday. Information from the raid shows al Qaeda's successful development of compact, battery bombs that fit inside laptops or other devices believed to be strong enough to bring down an aircraft, the sources said. The battery bombs would need to be manually triggered, a source explained, which is why the...

Consider this: What can we predict about the immediate political fallout if a substantial jihadist attack on American soil were to happen tomorrow? Answer: As we saw following 9/11, the visceral response is to rally around the flag; to see clearly the truth that despite our diverse spectrum of interests and opinions, there is much more connecting us than separating us. But the partisanship of the moment would profoundly affect the internal contours of that response. For starters, the response of President Donald Trump would mostly likely be predictable, somewhat juvenile, and entirely correct: “I told you so.” It is...

"Al Qaeda has never changed, and it still sees itself in what it conceives as an existential struggle against the West and against the United States in particular," Bruce Hoffman, Director Center for Security Studies at Georgetown University, told members of the House Armed Services Committee. Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, one of five Guantanamo prisoners facing trial by military commission for their alleged roles in the hijacking plot, also writes in the letter released Wednesday that it does not matter to him if he receives a life sentence or the death penalty from the tribunal. “If your court sentences me to life in prison, I will...

President Trump's first steps to secure the U.S. borders as he promised during his run for the presidency have been greeted by protest, demonstrations, and outrage. Yet the record has been clear for years that our country is at grave risk, not only from those who cross our porous borders to do us harm, but also from those who have turned a blind eye and refuse to see what has been occurring at the U.S.-Mexico border. In August 2014, Judicial Watch (J.W.) broke the story that Islamic terrorist groups, including ISIS and al-Qaeda, were operating in the Mexican border city,...
