Cardinal Blase Cupich speaks to NBC 5's Mary Ann Ahern about the explosive allegations of a former high-ranking church official who claims the Pope knew about charges of sexual misconduct against an American cardinal and says that cardinal was responsible for Cupich's appointment in Chicago. "The Pope has a bigger agenda," Cardinal Cupich said. "He's got to get on with other things, of talking about the environment and protecting migrants and carrying on the work of the church. We're not going to go down a rabbit hole on this."

"As a lay Catholic, I sometimes feel helpless to stop this and I have only one tool in my box. Money. I am strongly considering not offering my money at Mass in protest until this is cleaned up. I will spend more time volunteering,” said one “heartbroken” church follower on Twitter"

It’s really not that often one can say with certainty that we witnessed history being made at a specific moment, but Saturday brought such an occasion with a Vatican announcement that Pope Francis had accepted the resignation of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick from the College of Cardinals. It’s an unprecedented move in the United States, the first time an American cardinal has ever renounced his red hat, and it’s the first time anywhere in the world has exited the college altogether facing accusations of sexual abuse. It is, therefore, the most tangible confirmation to date from Francis that when he says...

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will have its annual meeting in Baltimore November 12-15, 2018. The Silence Stops Now Coalition is committed to ending the culture of clerical silence that has enabled the sexual predation and destruction of lives for decades. To this end, we will be organizing the Silence Stops Now rally in Baltimore to demand an end to the silence, to insist on the resignation of those responsible, the prosecution of any criminal activity, and an independent investigation of the leadership of the Catholic Church in the United States.

Archbishop McCarrick’s predatory career would not have been possible without the culpable silence or active complicity of men at the highest levels of the Church. Revelations of his abuse have therefore gravely damaged the credibility of the whole Catholic hierarchy. Here a group of young Catholics speaks with one voice about the need for a cleansing fire. Their statement is non-partisan, assuming nothing but the eternal validity of the Church’s teaching. They call for an independent investigation of who knew what and when, a new intolerance of clerical abuse and sexual sin, and public acts of penance by Catholic bishops....

The study evaluated Christian news articles to determine actual or proposed methods of social issue resolution. The articles were identified from common online sites posting Christian news (Breaking Christian News, Charisma News, Christian Broadcasting Network, Christian Post, Christian Times, Christianity Today, LifeSiteNews and Newsmax). The sites were reviewed between January-June 2018. This study found 44 articles that reported a recent effort or future call for Christians to resolve a social problem. In 25 instances the issue resolution was a faith-based call to action which included generally: an individual response (n=14), prayer (n=7) or church-based action (n=4). In contrast, in 19...

B”H We Cannot Remain Silent on Jerusalem Two events in 5752 (around Jan. 1992) compel everyone to speak up about what happened in Jerusalem last week. On the 3rd of Shvat the Lubavitcher Rebbe indirectly, but clearly, charged chasidim to go forth and speak in his name/say what needs to be said. 12 days later, on Tu BShvat, the Rebbe stopped Shamir's minister in a dollar line. Many prophetic things were said and indeed it led to the fall of a government and later a president arose and fell after not heeding the warnings, but what's relevant here is the...

Of Course God exists The Conlin Challenge - I will convince you of a fact-based, as opposed to a faith-based God in less than 1,500 words So you believe in science, eh? Excellent, so do I. One aspect of this scientific thinking is a laissez-faire attitude towards results. A person who truly follows a scientific-way of thinking shouldn’t care one way or the other about a certain experiment; they simply attempt to map reality and by definition must follow the facts wherever they lead. True followers of science are therefore immune to allowing personal biases to infect their professional thinking....

Edward Peters †@canonlaw 21h 21 hours ago More Many talk as if ROME needs to authorize an investigation into McCarrick and his ilk before anything can happen. Don't folks realize that any friend, or foe, of the Church with money can hire an army of highly skilled, private investigators, right now? And that some likely have?

The shift in American society from admiring Christians to fearing and criticizing them provides an opportunity for self-reflection. How have we been presenting the message we believe in? Might there be a more grace-filled way? Some want to focus on personal morality and leave public morality to secular politicians. Others seek ways to guide the broader culture while still communicating grace. Rather than propose a single path, I will instead make some observations and suggestions for Christians to consider as we interact with a world that does not always share our views.Clashes Between Christ and Culture Are UnavoidableJohn Howard Yoder recounted...

Do you see my children even as the resistance builds against My Body and Bride, ( ( ((Truly My blood has already claimed victory)) ) ) for as you recognize the lies of the enemy and "declare" victory by My blood it is then My Holy Fire overtakes the enemies encampments and I turn their swords on the enemies of My Heart . So be at peace at you declare victory for I AM your Melchizedek and even now I bring to you the Bread and New Wine for The Battle is mine and not yours. Rejoice for it sends...

(Newsmax) – Last week, Bishop Edward Weisenburger of Tucson called upon his fellow bishops to issue a "prophetic statement" on immigration that would support "canonical penalties for Catholics who are involved" in implementing President Trump's immigration policy. Why would the thought of excommunication even enter the mind of Bishop Weisenburger? Does he mean to say that any Catholic Border Patrol Agent or ICE Officers enforcing the law are "obstinately preserving in manifest grave sin"? If so, what is the "grave sin" that meets the criterion of excommunication according to Canon 915? The 19,500 employees of the U. S. Border...

Teleios conducted a survey regarding faith and politics on two Instagram accounts frequented by Christian adolescents and millennials. Of the 336 responses the majority were: female (62%), <34 years old (79%), from the United States (80%) and evangelical (76%). Almost 80% 'somewhat agreed' to 'strongly agreed' that their country was founded on Christian morality and ethics. Further, over 92% noted it was important to maintain Christian morals and ethics in society. Regarding the current American president, Donald Trump, 63%...

A precious tool in my hand is the one I am able to wield to build and construct My Temple in each and every child I have given life to. So be the trowel of My hand laying the mortar of Unity my children for I AM building My Temple in others as I have built My temple in you . . . 1 Peter 2:1-10 2 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in...

Archbishop Charles Chaput 222 North 17th Street Philadelphia, PA 19103 Dear Archbishop Chaput, I just read your First Things essay "What Happens in Germany",which was forwarded to me by Fr. Thomas Weinandy. It certainly justified his recommendation: very clear, very much on-target, very important. Thank you for writing this. I have been on my parish RCIA teaching team for over 15 years, and I sincerely strive to “adhere with religious submission of will and intellect” to everything Christ authoritatively teaches through His Church. This is how I raised my sons, how I teach my students, and how I live my...
