At least 50 people were injured after an Amtrak train derailed in Montana on Saturday afternoon, setting off a frantic response by rescuers who scrambled to extricate passengers from cars, an official said. The official, Amanda Frickel, the disaster and emergency services coordinator for Hill County, Mont., said in an interview that more than one person had been killed, but that the authorities were not yet releasing any more details. She said “well over” 50 people had been injured.

A 77-year-old man was pushing a bicycle on Interstate 14 in Killeen Friday morning when he was hit and killed by several vehicles, according to police. CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Sitterly Road Bridge has reopened after the Department of Transportation finished installing a temporary bridge. The bridge, which crosses the Adirondack Northway between Exit 9 and Exit 8A, was closed on April 14 after it was struck and damaged by a truck traveling southbound on Interstate 87. Department of Transportation officials say the temporary bridge is restricted for overweight/oversized loads and has a temporary speed limit of 30 mph.

“What was reported to us from someone who witnessed the (incident)… was that the chute failed to fully open as she was coming down and it was heavily tangled around her,” the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said. They said the woman was “very experienced.” The FAA said they are investigating the incident, but focusing on the parachute rigging.

Two employees are still unaccounted for at the Cargill Salt Mine at Avery Island after a roof collapse in the mine early Monday morning. The facility has been shut down while rescue operations and an investigation into the incident are underway. According to a statement from the company, local rescue workers and members of the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration are on site. There were 18 employees on shift at the time of the collapse. The other 16 employees have been evacuated without any reported injuries.

The U.S. Navy has identified the two-person crew killed Friday when a training aircraft crashed in a small town outside Mobile, Alabama. In a news release Sunday, the Navy identified the victims as Navy Lt. Rhiannon Ross, 30, from Wixom, Michigan, and 24-year-old US Coast Guard Ensign Morgan Garrett of Weddington, North Carolina.
