It seems now more than ever that Americans increasingly aren’t relying on the police to protect them and are taking things into their own hands. The number of National Instant Criminal Background System Checks (NICS) conducted in May 2020 shattered the record for the most checks conducted in any May since the inception of background checks. The Boston Globe ran an editorial in support of the Democrats’ latest gun control push and bolstered their position by suggesting gun kit sales “seem to be on the rise.” The Globe is backing Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s (D-CT) push for new regulations on “ghost guns” and the gun kits from which such guns are built. Breitbart News reported Blumenthal’s claim that such guns are “untraceable,” yet he also claimed to know there are currently elevated sales of such guns.

A report by Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF) estimates that in April 2020 there were 1,797,910 gun sales, an increase of 71.3% over the April 2019 sales. Protestors in Michigan planning to rally at the state Capitol on Thursday are being warned that if they bring firearms to the event they will be arrested. A New York Post report claims women in New York are seeking guns in anticipation of what they fear is a coming coronavirus crime wave. Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) President Cliff Maloney filed a lawsuit today against Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Nicole Fried, who suspended online concealed weapons license applications, arguing that Fried’s actions violate his constitutional right to bear arms. Maloney is a military spouse, gun owner, and Floridian who was prevented from submitting his concealed weapons license application online.
