  • New York Gains Two New Qualified Parties and Loses Two

    Ballot Access News ^ | November 7, 2018 | Richard Winger
New York requires a party to poll 50,000 votes for Governor in order to be a qualified party. The Libertarian Party and the Serve America Party both met this goal, so they both become qualified parties for the first time in New York. The Reform Party and the Women’s Equality Party both polled substantially fewer than 50,000 votes for Governor, so they will lose their qualified status.

NBC News intelligence and national security reporter Ken Dilanian is no stranger to expressing his opinions on social media. Last month, after the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Dilanian advocated for a change in how senators are allotted to the states. Now, he’s openly wondering “how much longer the American majority will tolerate being pushed around by a rural minority.”

Joy Behar said Democrats lost key senate races because of gerrymandering in a segment on ABC’s ‘The View’ Wednesday morning. For some bizarre reason, ABC’s News’s Matthew Dowd brought up the fact that more ballots were cast in favor of the total number of Democratic candidates than Republican candidates running for U.S. Senate.

Every red state Democratic senator who voted against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation in October lost their re-election bids. Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Joe Donnelly of Indiana voted against President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick – all three lost on Tuesday. The only red state Democrat to support Kavanaugh was rewarded with a re-election victory. West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin won Tuesday night against Republican state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. His success allowed the Democratic Party to salvage what was otherwise a lackluster performance up and down Senate races. Trump campaigned...

Democratic candidates won governorships in seven Republican-held states on Tuesday as voters rebuked both President Trump and unpopular GOP governors in some of the deepest red territories in the country. Democratic candidates picked up open seats in Maine, Nevada, Michigan and New Mexico where Republican incumbents faced term limits. State Sen. Laura Kelly (D) beat out controversial Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R), who ousted Gov. Jeff Colyer (R) in this year’s Republican primary. Billionaire hotel magnate J.B. Pritzker (D) easily outpaced Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) in a race that cost both men tens of millions of dollars....

The liberals and mainstream media wanted everybody to believe that in 2018 there would be a Democratic tsunami wave. There wasn’t. In the 1994 midterm elections Democratic president Bill Clinton lost 54 House seats, 8 Senate seats and 10 governorships. That was a tsunami. In the 2010 midterm elections Democratic president Barack Obama lost 63 House seats, 6 Senate seats and 29 governorships. That was an even bigger tsunami. In the 2018 midterm elections Republican President Donald Trump lost a just over a couple dozen House seats (confirming the historical precedents), expanded robustly his Senate seats, while the number of...

Startling video shows a group of teens hurl a metal pole through a Brooklyn synagogue window while congregation members were observing the Sabbath inside. The footage released by Williamsburg Shomrim on Twitter on Sunday shows half a dozen teens loitering near the synagogue on Franklin Avenue near Myrtle Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the tweet. The kids are seen leaning against a wrought-iron fence talking to each other while one of the teens — wearing dark clothes and a white, patterned backpack — is carrying the metal pole, the video shows. The Republican Jewish Coalition is calling for the resignation of seven Democratic members of Congress whom it claims are "connected" to controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. The group describes him as a "known anti-Semite." The lobbying group on Tuesday called for the following lawmakers to step down: Reps. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.; Barbara Lee, D-Calif.; Maxine Waters, D-Calif.; Danny Davis, D-Ill.; Andre Carson, D-Ind.; Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y.; and Al Green, D-Texas.

If the volume of early and absentee voting is any indication of voter interest in this election, polling places in the counties in the suburbs of St. Louis, Mo., will be packed Tuesday. Rich Chrismer, the long-time elections director in St. Charles County, said Monday his team had already seen 11,000 walk-in voters compared to the typical 2,000. Mail-in absentee ballots, he said, were also way up. "It almost looks like a presidential election," said Mr. Chrismer, who said voters in his county were motivated by the battle over the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the tight race...

  • 2018 midterm election is a "referendum on us," political experts say

Many consider today's midterm election a referendum on President Trump, but one Pulitzer Prize-winning historian says otherwise. "I think it's a collective mirror on us, who we vote as our leaders, where we are going as a country, what are our values," Doris Kearns Goodwin said Tuesday on "CBS This Morning." CBS News contributor and former "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer agreed. "President Trump has made this, he wants it to be, a referendum on him. I mean, he thinks most things are a referendum on him. But that is beside the point," Schieffer said. "I think it's a...

On Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans will compete for the 42nd time in a nonpresidential-year contest -- a rivalry that goes back to 1854. That's the oldest such partisan competition in the world. And despite the complaints of today's Democrats that the Constitution is biased against them, Democrats have won Senate majorities 16 times -- versus 10 times for Republicans -- since senators started being elected by popular vote in 1914. Similarly, in the 164 years of midterm Republican-Democratic House contests, Democrats have won control of the House 24 times, compared with 17 for Republicans. In other words, over the...

Volunteers used every bit of the daylight Monday to knock on doors before polls open in the morning. In Collin County, the GOP set a 72-hour goal of knocking on 13,401 doors, with close to 10,000 of that total on Monday alone. It kept a phone on the ear of Gabriela Perdichizzi all day. "We're covering all corners of the county," Perdichizzi said. "We got people walking in McKinney, people in Plano, Allen and Frisco." One day after state representative Jeff Leach (R-Plano) put out a call for block walkers during a Ted Cruz rally in Fairview, areas across the...

Voters headed to the polls Tuesday to determine the balance of power in Washington and across the country in a midterm election that has been set up by both parties as a referendum on President Trump’s first two years in office. As voters braved long lines and bad weather to cast their ballots, state and local candidates, party representatives and activists canvassed battleground states, looking to woo any remaining undecided voters. Historical trends and recent polls suggest the Republicans could lose the House, creating an obstacle to Mr. Trump’s agenda two years into his administration. Democrats need to flip 23...

**SNIP** Ocasio-Cortez was asked last week whether she thought Medicare for All was too expensive. Here’s what she said: “No, people often say, like, how are you going to pay for it and I find the question so puzzling because ‘How do you pay for something that’s more affordable? How do you pay for cheaper rent?’ You just pay for it. We’re paying more now.”

A big political gambler I met in Las Vegas in 2016 is in London betting that the Republican Party will keep control of the US Congress. Robert Barnes is essentially wagering that US pollsters haven’t fixed any of the problems that led them astray during the 2016 presidential campaign. Barnes, a trial lawyer, lives in Las Vegas, but he has to travel to the British Isles to wager on US politics since it’s not allowed in the US. The bookies know him as a high roller; the political betting team at Ladbrokes even tweeted his photo to mark his arrival...

"Democrats don’t have to win control of either chamber of Congress to jam the Trump administration’s agenda and flood the zone with investigations." "“Just see the current crop of Democratic AGs, they are tripping over each other to get themselves on top of a lawsuit against Trump." ---------- "Candidates are running to be their state’s top lawyer in 32 states this year, with 14 seats currently held by Democrats and 18 held by Republicans. The races are drawing more than $100 million in donations. Many of the hard-fought contests are in battleground states."
