Rev. Jesse Jackson slammed the Supreme Court’s decision on the Voting Rights Act saying that civil rights activists have “bled too much” to be “stabbed in the heart” this way. “The right to vote is too precious. We’ve bled too much, we’ve died too young, the price has been too great to now watch it be stabbed in the heart by the Supreme Court today,” the civil rights leader told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday. Jackson urged President Obama to use his executive power to convene Congress and make a case to set the record straight on the court’s ruling...
  • Cincinnati poll worker charged with voting half dozen times in November

She admitted voting twice in the presidential election last November, and now, Obama supporter Melowese Richardson has been indicted for allegedly voting at least six times. She also is charged with illegal voting in 2008 and 2011. The 58-year-old veteran Cincinnati poll worker, indicted Monday, faces eight counts of voter fraud. Two others, one of whom is a nun, have been charged separately. Richardson had admitted on camera to a local TV station, "Yes, I voted twice," claiming she was concerned that her vote would not count. She also said there "was no intent on my part to commit any...

The case of the phantom ballots: an electoral whodunit By Patricia Mazzei pmazzei@MiamiHerald.com TIM CHAPMAN / MIAMI HERALD STAFF About 2,000 rejected absentee ballots at Miami-Dade Elections Department, mostly for lack of signatures or review of signatures from the last election. The first phantom absentee ballot request hit the Miami-Dade elections website at 9:11 p.m. Saturday, July 7. The next one came at 9:14. Then 9:17. 9:22. 9:24. 9:25. Within 2½ weeks, 2,552 online requests arrived from voters who had not applied for absentee ballots. They streamed in much too quickly for real people to be filling them out. They...
  • Florida Union: 'Vote Early, Vote Often' 6:37 PM, OCT 16, 2012 • BY DANIEL HALPER

The Florida chapter of the AFL-CIO appears to be encouraging folks to break the law. In a message on the homepage of their website, the union writes, "There is a mantra that we --at the Florida AFL-CIO-- like to live by, 'Vote Early, Vote'. The mantra of the Florida AFL-CIO encourages illegal activity. There appears to be two federal laws this would violate: 42 USC 1973i(e) and 42 USC § 1973gg–10(2). "The former federal law makes it illegal to vote twice. The latter law prohibits fraudulent voting in a federal election. 18 USC 2 makes it illegal to aid and...
  • DNC PROVES VOTING FRAUD IS A REALITY

September 6, 2012 DNC PROVES VOTING FRAUD IS A REALITY Joel B. Pollak Yesterday, the nation watched in shock and amusement as Democrats stole a vote--from themselves. Against clear evidence to the contrary, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa declared that proposed amendments to the Democratic Party platform--re-inserting “God” and a commitment to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital--had passed with the necessary two-thirds majority. It was fraud, pure and simple; even CNN wasn’t buying it.Nonetheless, Democrats and their allies continue to insist that voter fraud is something that never happens. The NAACP, for instance, has just issued a statement declaring: “There's a...

Come November, I hope Democrat Paul Sadler will be the new junior U.S. Senator of Texas. Sadler is a self-proclaimed Progressive with a proven track record behind his liberal Democrat label. But, despite my hopes, recent Texas electoral history and the state’s political climate suggest the November election will not send Sadler to Washington, D.C. So, Progressive Democrats should participate in tomorrow’s Republican Primary Runoff between former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz and Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst. For Progressive Democrats, David Dewhurst is the best option.

HOUSTON (AP) -- The head of the NAACP on Monday likened the group's fight against conservative-backed voter ID laws that have been passed in several states to the great civil rights battles of the 1960s. Benjamin Todd Jealous, the CEO and president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said these are "Selma and Montgomery times," referring to historic Alabama civil rights confrontations.
  • Obama Campaign Grapples With New Voter ID Laws

    New York Times ^ | April 29, 2012 | by Michael D. Shear
WASHINGTON — Field workers for President Obama’s campaign fanned out across the country over the weekend in an effort to confront a barrage of new voter identification laws that strategists say threaten the campaign’s hopes for registering new voters ahead of the November election. Many of the laws in question — including the ones in Florida and Wisconsin — are the subject of legal challenges by Democratic groups who say they are part of a partisan, Republican effort to dampen the turnout of voters, particularly members of minority groups, for Mr. Obama and his party. But senior aides to Mr....

Many are puzzled that Democrats persist in ramming unpopular and destructive legislation down our collective throats while seemingly unconcerned by their plummeting poll numbers. A widespread belief is that the Democrats are committing political suicide and will be swept from one or both houses of Congress with unprecedented electoral losses next November. But since Democrat politicians rarely do things that will not ultimately benefit themselves, this column asked two weeks ago: "what do they know that we don't?" We may have found out. It's called universal voter registration. The Wall Street Journal's John Fund described the Democrat plan recently at...
