The very first action taken by the lame duck Congress in the House will be a betrayal of the military and the voters who just gave them a larger majority and their colleagues in the Senate control. The lame duck House is scheduled to pass --perhaps as early as today-- a National Defense Authorization Act ("NDAA") which cuts the scheduled pay hike for the military from 1.8 percent to 1 percent, which slaps a co-pay on all their prescriptions --real dollars every time every military kid gets an ear infection, and a huge hit for any military family with a...

The Republican Party stands on the brink of putting an exclamation point on its hugely successful midterm election with the GOP challenger for U.S. Senate in Louisiana well-positioned to dislodge the Democratic incumbent in a runoff election early next month. A Dec. 6 win by front-running Rep. Bill Cassidy (R) over Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) would give Senate Republicans their ninth pickup and stretch their advantage in the chamber to 54-46 over Democrats when the new Congress is sworn in next year. It would also serve as yet another setback for a once dominant party now in steep decline in...

WASHINGTON — Earlier this month, the midterm elections swept Senate Republicans back into power for the first time since 2006. Things had been looking pretty rosy for conservatives. It appeared to be the beginning of the reversal and another repudiation of President Barack Obama’s policies. Sure, it’d be a tough fight, but without a Democratic Senate to run interference, Obama would be put into the uncomfortable position of being forced to compromise. ...more...

Mary Landrieu is dedicated to the well being of Louisiana residents. Even her vote for the Affordable Care Act, which is being used to attack her, reflects concern for the hundreds of thousands of her constituents who lack health insurance. Seniority matters in the Senate. Although Democrats lost control of the chamber in the midterm elections, Sen. Landrieu would be one of the highest-ranking members of the minority party in the next Congress. Her track record demonstrates her ability to work successfully with Republicans on a variety of matters. Louisiana needs Sen. Landrieu's knowledge, energy and influence in Washington as...

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Sunday criticized a recently released House Republican report that concludes no intelligence lapses in connection with the fatal Benghazi attacks, saying congressional investigators did a “lousy job.” “I think the report is full of crap,” Graham, a Republican, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Submitted by Terresa Monroe-Hamilton on November 23, 2014 – 6:52 pm EST Breitbart News Hat Tip: James Simpson Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) revealed on Saturday that Republican leadership, led by Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Oh), has no intention of resisting President Obama’s executive amnesty that he ordered on Thursday. Breitbart News Executive Chairman Steven K. Bannon asked the congresswoman, who was a guest on Breitbart News Saturday Sirius XM Patriot channel 125, “Has there been any firm commitment from the leadership of the Republican party saying that this amnesty is not going to happen?” Bachmann replied with a...

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) wants Republicans to reverse the Democrats' filibuster reforms in the new year, arguing that doing so will make it tougher for President Barack Obama to get his nominees approved. The new system requires just 51 votes to advance executive branch nominees and judges nominated for all courts except the Supreme Court, instead of the 60 votes that were previously required. Democrats approved the reforms after Republicans were refusing to let many of Obama's nominees go through. Half the nominees filibustered in the country's history, for example, were blocked by Republicans during the Obama administration.

Some 63% Want Candidates Elected This Year to Broker Deals With Lawmakers From Across Aisle Americans are largely pleased with the outcome of this month's midterm elections but have little faith that Republican gains in the House and Senate will prompt the two parties to work more closely to solve the nation's problems, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds. Weeks after Republicans recaptured the Senate and tightened their grip on the House, roughly three-fourths of poll participants said this month's midterm results woul produce "just some" or "not that much" change in a country that most believe has...

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's choice for a powerful committee position was defeated by the Democratic conference on Wednesday, a rare intra-party setback for the Californian. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) won in a 100-90 caucus vote to be ranking member of the Energy & Commerce Committee, according to two Democrats in the room.

Two powerful Republican committee chairmen warned President Obama in a letter Wednesday that they would use every tool at their disposal to stop his executive actions on immigration. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) added to the chorus of GOP criticism against the president, calling an executive order “ill advised” and urging Obama to work with Congress to find a compromise. “Let’s secure the border, enforce our immigration laws in the interior of the United States, and build a broad consensus for immigration reform,” they wrote. “Otherwise, as the chairmen...

Tomorrow night, at 8 p.m. EST, President Obama will address the nation on his coming executive amnesty. "Our immigration system has been broken for decades -- and every minute we fail to act, millions of people who live in the shadows but want to play by the rules and pay taxes have no way to live right by the law and contribute to our country," says the White House press secretary in a blog post. "So tomorrow night, President Obama will address the nation to lay out the executive actions he’s taking to fix our broken immigration system. You can...

WASHINGTON -- Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a sweeping overhaul of the once-secret National Security Agency program that collects records of Americans' phone calls in bulk. Democrats and a handful of Republicans who supported the measure failed to secure the 60 votes they needed to take up the legislation. The vote was 58-42 for consideration. Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, worked hard to defeat the bill, which had the support of the Obama administration and a coalition of technology companies, including Apple, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. "This is the worst possible time to be tying our hands behind our...

Well, the short-lived honeymoon is over. What did it last … all of a week? It seems as though we didn’t even have an election the way Obama and his party are acting. The voice of the American people has fallen on deaf ears evidently, because nothing has changed on the Democratic side in Washington. The massive takeover by the GOP just seems to be a minor annoyance, and Obama is just going to push through his agenda as though the election were a mere speed bump. The move Obama is making in this political chess game just shows his...

WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats, by a single vote, stopped legislation that would have approved construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, one of the most fractious and expensive battles of the Obama presidency. The vote represented a victory for the environmental movement, but the fight had taken on larger dimensions as a proxy war between Republicans, who argued that the project was vital for job creation, and President Obama, who had delayed a decision on building it. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, Democrat of Louisiana, who is facing a runoff election Dec. 6, had pleaded with her colleagues throughout the day to...

House Dems Again Choose Nancy Pelosi as Leader Nov 18, 2014 By ALAN FRAM Rep. Nancy Pelosi overcame gripes about Democrats' losing campaign messages and breezed to re-election Tuesday as House minority leader. Meeting behind closed doors, Democrats used a voice vote to give Pelosi, D-Calif., her seventh two-year term as their House leader. The rest of the party's top leadership in the chamber, including No. 2 leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., was also re-elected. Pelosi and her lieutenants faced no challengers. But just two weeks after an Election Day that deepened their minority status — they lost at least a...

Democrats re-elected Rep. Nancy Pelosi to another two-year term as House minority leader on Tuesday, two weeks after elections in which the party lost at least a dozen seats in the chamber. In a closed-door meeting of House Democrats, Pelosi was re-elected by voice vote in a race in which she faced no challenger. The California Democrat has been party leader in the chamber since 2003, including four years in which she was the first female House speaker. No. 2 House Democrat Steny Hoyer of Maryland and the party’s other top leaders also were re-elected without a challenge. …
