This is the season of Advent for Christians. The season is not just about the event but about the expectation, the waiting, the preparation, the everyday events through which you can see God's grace shine. In today's polarized political environment, this might appear to be impossible to achieve. But I believe it is possible -- it just requires us to adjust our expectations and our state of mind. First, expectations. This week on ABC's "The View," hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Meghan McCain got into an argument and proceeded to verbally run over each other. It ended with Goldberg cutting McCain...

LOS ANGELES - A relatively small lineup of seven Democratic presidential contenders will take the stage for a debate on Thursday, one day after the House of Representatives made Republican Donald Trump the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. But the debate’s timing, coming a week before the holidays and amid the impeachment fireworks in Washington, could reduce the audience and the benefits for Democratic candidates seeking a boost ahead of the first nominating contest in Iowa on Feb. 3. The sixth debate in the race to pick a Democratic challenger to Trump in the November 2020 election...

WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives on Wednesday impeached President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, making him the third president in history to be charged with committing high crimes and misdemeanors and face removal by the Senate. On a day of constitutional consequence and raging partisan tension, the votes on the two articles of impeachment fell largely along party lines, after a bitter debate that stretched into the evening and reflected the deep polarization gripping American politics in the Trump era. Only two Democrats opposed the article on abuse of power, which accused Mr. Trump of...

Morning "The lot is cast into the lap, but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord." Proverbs 16:33 If the disposal of the lot is the Lord's whose is the arrangement of our whole life? If the simple casting of a lot is guided by him, how much more the events of our entire life--especially when we are told by our blessed Saviour: "The very hairs of your head are all numbered: not a sparrow falleth to the ground without your Father." The activist spent a sleepless night after the cataclysmic events of the day. Surely the bold actions of his heroes earlier would elicit deadly retribution from the cruel dictator who had somehow gained ascendancy in his beloved land. He knew that, even though he had always carefully masked himself during operations, the Government HAD to have his name on a "LIST", and knew his every move. Fitfully, he clutched his smart phone close to his body, even though he knew that the Secret Police could easily track him by its signal. He needed it to stay in touch with Social...

Comfortably retired bloke here. I was thinking of offering some big bucks to the winner of a speech contest where the winner gives the best 5-10 minute speech on the virtues of capitalism. Time to get the young folks engaged rather than indoctrinated. If one young student has to spend a whole weekend studying and preparing for a (let's say) $500 reward it will at least get them off their dead behinds. I'd even throw in a participation trophy for the losers. Local GOP offices could sponsor the events. That would really fry the left. Just askin'.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that U.S. Democrats had impeached President Donald Trump for "fabricated" reasons in order to reverse his 2016 election victory. Putin, speaking at his annual year-end news conference, said he expected Trump to survive the proceedings and stay in office. The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to impeach Trump, but Putin, like most observers, said he expected the Republican Senate to acquit him. "It's unlikely they will want to remove from power a representative of their party based on what are, in my opinion, completely fabricated reasons," said Putin....

The increased connectivity of computers and the growth of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) in most organizations is making the distribution of malicious software (malware) easier. Unlike other types of malicious programs that may usually go undetected for a longer period, a ransomware attack is usually experienced immediately, and its impact on information technology infrastructure is often irreversible. As part of Microsoft’s Detection and Response Team (DART) Incident Response engagements, we regularly get asked by customers about “paying the ransom” following a ransomware attack. Unfortunately, this situation often leaves most customers with limited options, depending on the business continuity and...

An exorcist has condemned a children's book that encourages youngsters to 'summon demons' to help with chores and homework. A Children's Book of Demons, published in the US and aimed at five to ten year olds, contains symbols to 'call up' colourful characters that are also aimed at helping them get rid of bullies and eating their dinner, by transforming it into a plate of cookies. However, in a bizarre twist, the President of the International Association of Exorcists Father Francesco Bamonte, has blasted the literary work as putting children 'at risk of bringing demons into their home' and proposing...

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said two men, Kenneth Douglas, 36, and Terrail Jenkins, 38, spotted Kevin Lee, 43, at a Fort Lauderdale McDonald’s some time before noon Tuesday and abducted him. ...Douglas and Jenkins are picked up by video surveillance footage entering a Shell gas station located at 2701 W. “It is up to us to reclaim our heritage of equal and impartial justice. It is up to us to re-dedicate ourselves to the traditions and wisdom of our Founders.” — PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP AT THE SWEARING IN CEREMONY OF BRETT KAVANAUGH While eyes are glued to the “historic” Congressional impeachment poppycock that will be relegated to footnote status a nanosecond after the Senate votes, real and lasting work by President Trump and the Republican Senate continues to get done. Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz created waves in Washington last week with the release of a lengthy report about the origins of the “Crossfire Hurricane” Trump-Russia investigation. Pundits focused on his finding of no “political bias” in the decision to investigate Donald Trump, while conservatives focused on abuses of the FISA process. Horowitz left a lot of key questions about the Russia investigation unanswered, however, including: Who is Joseph Mifsud? A congressional source last week said, “I don’t see any way the investigation can be aboveboard if Mifsud isn’t a Russian agent.”Horowitz said all four of the FISA warrant...

Attorney General William Barr provided new details Wednesday of U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation of the origins of the Trump-Russia probe and said in an interview on Fox News that the federal prosecutor is looking into the activities of federal agencies outside the FBI, as well as those of “private actors.” “He’s not just looking at the FBI,” Barr said of Durham. “He’s looking at other agencies … and also private actors, so it’s a much broader investigation.” Barr did not elaborate on which “private actors” are part of the Durham probe.

he “sustainability director” at a Virginia university has some novel advice for students heading home for Christmas: consider not actually purchasing a gift for someone in order to lessen your greenhouse gas emissions. “We’re trying to keep in mind that our carbon footprint is something that can expand during the holidays,” Calandra Waters Lake, Director of Sustainability at the College of William & Mary, told the school’s news service. Waters Lake offered students several tips for how to “be wise…through our purchases, through food that we eat, through the activities that we’re doing” over the winter break. Among those? Consider...
  • Politicians Are Addicted to Price Controls

Despite overwhelming historical evidence demonstrating the folly of government-imposed price controls, modern politicians just can't seem to quit inflicting them on us. One obvious example involves health care, where price controls on prescription medications always seem to be just around the corner and are now being considered in the rush to eliminate surprise medical bills. Fewer people know about similar efforts regarding the aluminum market, where some politicians are contemplating price controls to compensate victims of the trade war. Back in March 2018, President Donald Trump announced that he would impose a 10% tariff on all imported aluminum (unless an...

Back in the summer of 2015, the co-directors of Disney’s “Zootopia” went rogue, disregarding the advice of their corporate colleagues and appearing onstage at the Annecy animation festival disguised as the talking-animal cartoon’s fur-covered lead characters, an anthropomorphic rabbit and her foxy best friend. The audience ate it up, but behind the scenes, the Disney suits were sweating. For decades, the family entertainment company had been dealing with a very specific group of enthusiasts, identified as “furries,” who get off on dressing up in full-body animal costumes, drawing inspiration wherever they can find it. By now, Disney lawyers know how...
