One time, I met a D.C. traffic-directing cop in the line at the mall and I remarked how dangerous her job was. “I mean, people in D.C. drive so crazy,” I said. “You could get killed.” “Oh no,” she said, “don’t feel sorry for me. Feel sorry for the people in parking enforcement. They get screamed at, spat on, cursed out – you name it. It’s horrible.” I have to admit that this was the first time I’d ever had any sympathy for parking enforcement cops (also known as “meter maids”). I’ve always seen them as predators, scrounging around, looking...

Karen Monahan's son posted a cryptic message about his mom and Keith Ellison, a Democratic Representative in Minnesota. Her son made some nasty claims about Ellison dragging her off a bed, yelling at her, and a few other things, which you can read here if you desire. Karen supported her son's message and deemed it true. Now that she's out in public with her accusations towards Ellison, she's letting people know the story as time goes on. At one point she started publishing screenshots of private messages that she shared with Ellison. We have some of them here. They might...

Any lingering thought that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) would have any role to play in President Trump’s soon to-be-released peace plan has vanished - after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that $165 million had been deducted from funding to the PLO because of its continuing “pay for slay” policy in breach of the Taylor Force Act. Jordan has now signalled its preparedness to replace the PLO by publically supporting Trump in an article written in the Jordan Times by Walid Sadi – a retired Jordanian diplomat with over 35 years’ experience and himself a former editor of the...

Philadelphia clinic where Dr Kermit Gosnell killed living babies with scissors and dumped fetal remains is going up for sale Philadelphia has begun the process to auction off the site of a former clinic where now-imprisoned doctor Kermit Gosnell performed illegal late-term abortions. The city is seeking to use a sheriff's auction to recoup about $50,000 in delinquent taxes, with a sale possible as soon as early 2019, Philly.com reported Thursday. The proceedings were initiated earlier this year. Gosnell, who is serving a prison sentence of life without the possibility...

In the news this week – just two weeks out from a critically important midterm election – the news is full of stories about pipe bombs being mailed to prominent left-wingers. It’s a fascinating story on several fronts. The targets included an ex-president and an ex-secretary of state, an aging actor, the office of a liberal media outlet, and an activist financier so ancient that most people thought he must be dead already. At this writing, none of these bombs went off, and most didn’t even reach their destinations because they were sent to people well known to be heavily...

He joined the Motown house band, the Funk Brothers, in 1968 and later played on one of the Temptations’ most iconic singles, “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” which incorporates long, flickering funk riffs, bluesy excursions and pointillistic solos. The shimmery, lingering guitar part after the line “it was the third of September” is a perfect demonstration of the wah wah pedal effect. Ragin went on to appear on both Marvin Gaye’s sensual masterpieces, Let’s Get It On and I Want You, Quincy Jones’ most successful solo LP, Body Heat, Rose Royce’s breakout album, Car Wash, Smokey Robinson’s criminally underappreciated Love...

... As we’ve seen in the way that the JPII Institute has been re-configured, however, it wouldn’t be wrong to think that the elaboration spoken of here may really be more of a repudiation of all that – and the Church’s long tradition on sex, marriage, and family. In a papacy that often proceeds by way of ambiguities, this language – which means everything and nothing – simply cannot be allowed to stand. Though it was a clear victory for Catholic orthodoxy that stronger terms have been defeated, this formulation potentially authorizes everything that was feared at the beginning. And...

**SNIP** One of the things Pelosi loves about where she lives in New York’s Greenwich Village is the diversity, and the freedom people feel to be themselves. Yet the things she loves about this country are the same thing that others believe is wrong about America. “People who live in a liberal bubble do not have an understanding of this country,” she said. “I don’t think they spend enough time in America. If you live in New York City, you can’t say you live in America. Sorry, I know people will be offended by that.” But in her bubble, “we...

Two potential 2020 presidential contenders placed their bets on open borders as a winning issue in their expected bids for the office. California Sen. Kamala Harris (D) and Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) both made strong statements in support of the caravan from Guatemala that aims to crash its way into the US by election day 2018. "America is a welcoming place," Harris said. "We are, after all, a nation built on immigration. The people in this caravan are just like the people in America. We all want a government that puts food on the table and pays our bills....

During day one of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) accused him of being beyond “pro-gun” and suggested more people will die in mass shootings if he is confirmed. Feinstein said: “If the Supreme Court were to adopt your reasoning I fear the number of victims would continue to grow and citizens would be rendered powerless in enacting sensible gun laws.”

LifeZette talked to Terri Palmquist, one of several people who helped a future mom say 'no' to killing her baby On the opening weekend of the movie “Gosnell,” a Christian pro-life ministry in Bakersfield, California, rented out a theater to allow as many people as possible to see the film — which tells the true story of former abortion doctor and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell. (Shown above: actor Dean Cain, right, and director Nick Searcy, left, from the film.) It is fair to say today they believe it was well worth their investment. Tim and Terri Palmquist of LiverSavers Ministries,...

The philosophy major concedes that his student loan balance of around $20,000 isn’t as large as the burden shouldered by many other borrowers, but he said his difficultly finding a college-level job in the U.S. has made that debt oppressive nonetheless. “If you’re not making a living wage,” Haag said, ”$20,000 in debt is devastating.”

Pauline Edwards, 47, of Albert Avenue, was charged Thursday with malicious wounding of an animal, breach of peace, third-degree assault, threatening and reckless endangerment. She was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond. On Thursday afternoon officers were dispatched to a home on Rita Avenue for a disturbance. Police said the male homeowner told them he had recently purchased a Porche and posted a photograph of it on Facebook. But his girlfriend, Edwards, was not happy with all the attention the post was getting from other women. Following a dispute over his refusal to take the post down, the man...

Don’t get your hopes up too much. Out of 19 polls taken since September 1, this from WCTV is the only one showing DeSantis ahead. Other polls taken as recently as a few days ago show Gillum up six, seven, even 12(!) points. But every outlier is potentially the start of a trend. Just adding this one to your radar screen, in case.(snip) Any reason to take WCTV’s numbers seriously? Sure. The same outfit also polled the Florida Senate race and came up with a one-point lead for Bill Nelson over Rick Scott, 46/45. Two other recent polls have had...

Philadelphia, the historic city where abortionist Kermit Gosnell practiced for decades, has given little attention to the new film exposing his horrific trade. “Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer” opened Oct. 12. It follows the true story of Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortionist who murdered newborn babies and committed numerous other crimes inside his “house of horrors” abortion facility. It stars Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark”) and is directed by Nick Searcy (“The Shape of Water,” “Justified”). It broke into the top 10 films in its first weekend. Philadelphia Weekly recently reviewed the film and noted the lack of...

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz leads Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke by 51% to 45% among likely voters in their race to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate, according to a University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll released Friday. O’Rourke is continuing a months-long trend in lagging Cruz, but he is finding success among independent voters, a group that often gravitates toward the GOP in the Lone Star State. Some 51% of independent voters backed O’Rourke, while Cruz drew 39%, according to the new UT-TT poll. “If you look for Republican defections to Beto O’Rourke, they’re not there. But the independents break to...

Carruth, now 44, was found guilty of orchestrating a plot to kill Cherica Adams on Nov. 16, 1999, in Charlotte, to avoid paying child support. Adams was shot four times while driving her car, but managed to make a 911 call that helped implicate Carruth. Adams fell into a coma and died less than a month later after the shooting. The child she was carrying, Chancellor Lee Adams, was delivered by emergency cesarean section but suffers from permanent brain damage and cerebral palsy.

President Trump is preparing to announce a sweeping border crackdown in a speech Tuesday, a week before the midterm elections, in which he is expected to invoke emergency powers to stop migrants from entering the United States and depict them as a grave national security threat, administration officials said Friday. Trump is considering steps that would bar migrants from crossing the border and deny them a chance to apply for asylum in the United States, measures that legal scholars and immigrant rights groups say would contravene U.S. laws and international treaties, likely triggering challenges in federal court. The president, undeterred,...
