Thank you so much for that link, JLO.

My father *hated* typos, he was a Grammar Nazi, as we used to call him. ;) (So am I, now...the apple doesn't fall far).

To think that, during some of those posts he was writing with about 1/3 of his normal vision, and no way to "see" where he was missing pieces of the picture...it's amazing he was able to hunt and peck so well at all.

Again, for those FReepers around/in Anch, Dad's funeral will meet up at the gates of Ft. Richardson at 11 am on Tuesday, to be escorted onto post. A celebration of his life will be directly after those services, and held at the VFW (across the street from the Dimond Ctr, near the Sports Authority).

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers.

    Warmly,
    Penelope

If you don't understand what free market economics has to do with something as basic as cleaner fuel...then maybe you should check into your local Loony Left center, because they don't know, either.

(Whoops, I was possessed by the DNA inherited from my father, RANGERAIRBORNE, right there. I'm not usually so sarcastic).

This country is supposed to be FOUNDED on the principle of a free market...meaning when people *want* cleaner fuel, they will pay for the technology and the product. That's a free market. In case you didn't understand RANGERAIRBORNE's reference to a "Five Year Plan," he was talking about any kind of government-instigated order to produce X-amount of clean fuel, electric cars, radio-powered anti-space-alien-headgear, black shoes or whatever product or service you can think of. That's a concept that is anathema to American economics as the American economy was intended to be run.

And, um, the suggestion to read "Free to Choose" was an excellent one, and he was really only trying to help...the book clearly outlines the argument against the market in America as it's being run by the government today. Obviously you don't understand the link between government interference in the marketplace and disastrous market conditions. Most Americans, sadly, don't understand even the basics of a truly free market.

And I think my dad got his ideas on your views from the fact that you *stated* that you don't understand what free market economics has to do with cleaner fuels...it says a lot about where you're coming from on this issue.

    With respect,

That's what I get for not reading all the responses to the OP. You beat me to the "1984" reference. Sadly, Orwell was closer to the truth than we ever thought he could be in America.

    (Cue music..."Oceania tis for thee.")

I need to check my calendar...I could have sworn this was 2003, but I'm thinking now maybe we're in 1984. Thought Police, indeed.

OK, this guy is in my yard and I exit my house saying, "I'm a police officer." Rather than stopping, sitting still, asking for help, crying, this moron picks up a long pole and swings it AT me. Yeah, he's there for tea and crumpets, eh?

In defending my family, my home, my life, I will empty my weapon, no matter how many shots it has in it. If I pull it out, it will be fired until all the bullets are gone. If that means I'm shooting a guy who's basically dancing from the smack of lead into his limbs, I don't care.

He shouldn't have been where he was, he acted like a perp, he probably was a perp, and I'm in total support of the officer.

"There's a bumper sticker out there that reads:

Gun control means using both hands."

    :)

When I was a kid, learning to shoot anything my dad (RANGERAIRBORNE) kept in the house, he bought me a hat that said, "Gun control is being able to hit your target."

    I love those old pictures...hehhehheh.

Another reason to homeschool...anyone busts into my "school" with a gun, gasoline, or just idiotic intentions is going to get a large caliber bullet between the eyes. (Actually, five large caliber bullets, all somewhere on his person...)

Death by lead poisoning makes sure these twits can't do this stuff again.

Thank you everyone who takes the time to honor our veterans and our active duty military personnel.

Today I salute and honor my grandfather, a WWII Naval veteran.

Today I salute my father, RANGERAIRBORNE, who is veteran of more operations than I can ever know. Thank you, Dad. I love you very much.

My dad had surgery on Veterans' day...of all days. Send him a tiny note if you have time.

    Thankful and proud, rangersdaughter

Thank you for taking the time, all of you, to remember our Veterans.

As you all know, my father is RANGERAIRBORNE. He must have had the crappiest Veterans' Day on record...he was in surgery.

Anyone who wants to send him a tiny note of thanks at his FReepmail addy would be so much appreciated. He will be healing from the surgery for weeks, but I am sure he will find a way to check on everyone here. ;)

    Thank you again.

    A very grateful rangersdaughter

I know I come across sometimes to ya'll in a way that gets your dander up...

But my father is RANGERAIRBORNE. I'm lucky to know him, lucky to have been conceived by him and my wonderful mother. I'm lucky 'cause I was born in '72 and he was SF and doing special ops at the time, i believe.

DAd, how long was it before you "met" me? I know it was quite a while. My memory tells me at least a year...but i could be mistaken.

I saw the traveling wall here in Fairbanks years ago...just took some flowers, a flag, and my kids. Cried. Rejoiced for those who made it home. And almost hit a cameraperson who wanted a "shot" of a Mama with her kids at the Wall. :P Even the traveling wall is incredible in its ability to bring forth thankfulness.

    Dad....Thank you.
  • California city starts diaper recycling

"Cloth diapers are terrible. I swore we would use them with our kids, but... NOT. I think the recycling idea is a good one, if it can break even, even, which I doubt. "

Why are they terrible? Because you are too lazy to pin and wash? Seriously. Cloth is awesome. It's disposables (i.e., plastic crap) that causes rash, asthma in many babies, and allergic reactions.

Read up on this. Having a baby is not supposed to be easy street. And part of having a baby is diapering them safely and comfortably.

Ask yourself...would you rather wear plastic pants or cloth undies? If you answer the former, then there is no hope for you or your children. Plastic diapers are uncomfortable, they cause awful skin irritation, and they don't help our childrens' future. End of point.

"Why aren't they suggesting cloth diapers? "

Exactly. The very scary thing about "disposable" diapers is that they end up in landfills. Our landfills are not equipped to deal with the viruses, bacteria, etc., that are inherent in, ahem, the contents of diapers. Thus, these nasty viruses and bacteria (sometimes live nasty stuff, like after immunizations) end up seeping down to the water table. There is no decontamination.

Our water system, i.e., using cloth and a washing machine, IS equipped to deal with these things. This is why the tiny print on any plastic diaper package says, "Shake soil into toilet." Which nobody ever does.

    Scary.

Cloth is the only way to go.
