For him it is "highly unlikely" that Francis, who in his theology is “more a Protestant than a Catholic” will convert to Catholicism. Instead, the realistic scenario is that Francis will produce division and chaos, "Catholics will have to decide whether they guard the faith over papolatry.”

Don't see how this can be when he's been raised up as a Roman Catholic.

Thought y'all had to follow the bishop of Rome? This call to resist the pope is sounding like a modern day Reformation.

The pope is infallible only when speaking ex cathedra about faith and/or morals, which relate to the teachings of the Church.

The Protestant Reformation was not a reform of the Catholic Church, it was a splitting away of many from the Church.

The Pope’s main job is to defend the faith that was passed down from the Apostles. That’s it. He has no authority to cook up anything new, no authority to decide we’re going in a different direction than Christ already gave us.

Fidelity to the immemorial tradition of the Church is what made us oppose the Reformation, and is what makes us oppose Bergoglio. NO ONE has the right to change Catholic teaching.

The best parallel to a modern-day Reformation is the Bergoglio camp. All that blather about leading the Church in a new direction, cults of personality, radical novelties, sloppy theology.

Let me help: He’s been taught one thing and he chooses to believe another. We Catholics (convert here) follow Jesus, same as all the rest of the Christians. This man evidently does not follow the Lord. Two paths/ not a difficult choice imho.

ealgeone:

No, that is a simple view of it. My take is this, I will only pay attention to Pope Francis “if” he calls a Church Council (i.e. Vatican III), period. Other than that, the only time I will pay attention to Pope Francis is when I hear he has passed on and the Bishop of Rome is vacant and a new Pope is to be elected.

There have been a many of great Catholic saints who challenged Popes without causing schism (not that I am anywhere near a saint). Saint Catherine of Siena comes to mind.

Actually, they tell us we to submit to the pope and church, rather than ascertaining the validity of what is taught by the Scriptures, since that can result in division.

But then most RCs pick and choose what to obey from among what their church issues, according to their judgment of whether it is valid or not in the light of what they judge certain past church teaching means. Which can also result in division, but which is only sanctioned if done by Catholic censors of evangelicals.

Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist. Presbyterian - they’re all bastardized.

I tried them all - was raised a Catholic - and all are sorely lacking for the serious seeker of religion.

If you want serious Christian religion, try Eastern Orthodox.

If you’re like me, you would fail following the doctrine in the first week.

I now worship God in the cathedral of my backyard. The joy of God’s creation is much more understandable there than in any church.
