She has 180,000 followers on Twitter, became a daytime TV star with a cooking show sharing traditional convent recipes and waded into local politics speaking out in support of Catalan independence.
But the latest public declarations from the 51-year-old Dominican nun have provoked a stern telling off by the Catholic Church.
Her unlikely appearance on a chat show at the weekend to talk about sex led to her revealing that she didnt really believe in one of the tenets of the Roman Catholic faith that Mary, mother of Jesus, was a virgin.
"I think that Mary was in love with Joseph and that they were a normal couple, and the normal thing is to have sex, the nun who was born in Argentina before moving to a Catalan convent 26 years ago told Risto Mejideon on the Cuatro show Chester in Love.
"Its hard to believe and to take in, she added. "Weve stuck with rules that we have invented without reaching the true message.

Maybe, could have, would have, should have, might have been.
Pure foolishness to build a doctrine on nothing more substantial than idle speculation and the convoluted thinking of *Well, the Bible didn't say it DIDN'T happen, therefore we can extrapolate and twist Scripture, teach it as Truth, and create a doctrine and then demand someone disprove it.
Scripture states that Mary and Joseph had sex after Jesus was born and He was part of a large family and it even names His brothers.
It can't be much more clear than that and yet Catholics still desperately cling to the notion that Mary HAD to be a virgin for her WHOLE life.
Can you imagine how His brothers and sisters must have tormented Him and set Him up to try to get Him in trouble?
David didn’t have sex with his wife AFTER she died. That would be necrophilia.
Joseph had sex with his wife after she delivered. Mary survived childbirth.
The time limit referent preposition “until” covers both. It limits the period. And that is all it does.
Language is centered in human experience. I hate it when people carve out special meanings for foreign languages and thereby twist the meaning.
Maybe not.
Everything I have read about the households and families of that period would have mitigated against younger children giving the eldest much grief.
But how they must have hated Him.
Which is why He picked John to take care of His mother.
John 7:1-5 After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him. Now the Jews' Feast of Booths was at hand. So his brothers said to him, Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world. For not even his brothers believed in him.
To be complete: It’s not just UNTIL as preposition, but all its forms including adverb and subordinating conjunction.
Those weren’t the verses with which I was interacting. The precise question here isn’t whether or not he had (half) siblings; it is whether or not they enjoyed normal marital relations after Jesus was born.
If the Bible were written in English, you would have a very good case. It wasn’t, you don’t.
I hate it when people assume foreign words are merely English words with funny letters. Prepositions are notoriously difficult to translate.
By carving out a special meaning for English, you are doing precisely what you claim you hate.
BTW—I teach both Biblical Greek and Biblical Hebrew.
This nun must be a blood sister of Francis.
Yes, it's strange.
Also strange - importance of female virginity but not male.
It seems some men are afraid that they won't stack up well against other guys. The virgin wouldn't have anyone to compare them to.
why did Mary ask the angel How can this be, since I know not man?
When you think about it, it seems that if Mary was expecting to consummate her marriage with Joseph, her question would have been when would this be, not how can this be.
Why do people believe such weird things?
This is a good question.
The perpetual virginity of Mary was attested to in church writings as early as the second century, was widely supported by the fourth century, and was affirmed in several church councils by the seventh century. The doctrine was not rejected at the start of the Protestant reformation, and several early Protestant reformers supported the doctrine to varying degrees. The doctrine is currently maintained by some Lutheran and Anglican theologians and was affirmed by John Wesley.
Over time, some Protestant churches have stopped teaching the doctrine and others even deny it.
Why have people stopped believing what has been a belief during much of the history of Christianity?
Because she knew where babies came from and she knew that she had not yet consummated her marriage. So it was a perfectly reasonable question.
The question would be reasonable if the angel had told Mary that she had conceived. But he didn’t. He told Mary that she will conceive. The question does not make sense if Mary knew where babies come from and she knew that she was going to consummate her marriage. She would know how it can be. A more likely question would be for her to ask when will it happen.
“Why have people stopped believing what has been a belief during much of the history of Christianity?”
Because it is not consistent with the Bible.
Do you think Mary never had sex with Joseph, even after Jesus was born and she and Joseph were married?
LOL!

The answer cannot be determined from Scripture alone. While Scripture does say that Mary did not have relations with Joseph until Jesus was born, it does not say that she did ever have relations with Joseph. While Scripture does say that Jesus was her firstborn son, it does not say that she ever conceived in her womb and gave birth to other children. While Scripture does mention the brothers of Jesus, it does not say Mary was the birth mother of any of these brothers.
Scripture does say that when the angel told Mary that she will conceive in her womb and bring forth a son, she asked how this could be, seeing she know not a man.
If Mary intended to know Joseph, it doesn’t make any sense that she would ask the angel how this could be.
What do you believe?
(I’m not going to make fun of you or put you down).
So this thread has proven that this nun is not Catholic, but Protestant.
You’re doing the adversary’s work here! The APOSTLES did not teach that foolishness nor did they write about it! Why? Because they had the younger brothers and sisters still with them. Your religion has fomented many lies and heralded them dogma. They have even changed the wording in the Bible, to support the4 lies!
