Rapes, Daily Beatings, and No Escape: Christian School Was Hell For These Boys

Blue Creek Academy was an abusive hell on earth, former students say—and the principal who ran it is now heading up a new Bible school in another state.

Jacob* dressed himself in a camouflage jacket and a matching beanie on the summer morning he ran away into the West Virginia hills. At 14 years old, he was one of the youngest, smallest, and longest-attending students at Blue Creek Academy, a religious reform school for boys from which he was desperate to escape.

Blue Creek Academy was made up of an old schoolhouse and several cabins situated on a remote campground in central West Virginia. A mission of the nearby Independent Fundamental Baptist church, pastor James Waldeck advertised Blue Creek as an “alternative to today's degenerate, secular culture and education methods,” and took in boys who had been in trouble at home—both locally and from as far away as Texas—to be reformed. Its principal, 35-year-old JR Thompson, had reopened the church’s campgrounds in 2010, renamed it Blue Creek Academy, and marketed the boarding school, which he ran with his wife, Hannah, as a godly answer for “at-risk” teens with emotional and behavioral disabilities and Christian parents with $1,000 a month to spend on their salvation.

The method of advertising this so called school should have given any parent pause

If something sounds too good to be true, it is.

Who hires a single man to watch boys? What church lets a homeless man stay on the property with these boys from time to time? These people!

What kind of people then says the boys lied after CPS came and took the kids. These people.

What kind of people allows one child to be raped by another child and does not call the police?

Yes I should have gone to CPS then but I was so blinded myself. These snakes are that good.

This can’t possibly be the case as this was not run by the Catholic Church. Only Catholic priests are homosexual abusers of pubescent and prepubescent boys, don’t ya know!/s/

Oh JR HATED Catholics!! The Catholic Church was evil to him. His wife Hannah was the daughter of a baptist minister who also hated Catholics. This school was ran by IFB baptists. And they do this!

Sooooo Yep yep yep yep yep yep

I can’t say it....this is the religion forum but you know I’m thinking it.

No I will say it....

May every child who ever passed thought Blue Creek Academy, in Blue Creek, West Virginia BECOME ROMAN CATHOLIC to spite these evil morons.

What kind of people allows one child to be raped by another child and does not call the police?

"Thompson—whom two former Blue Creek families fault with failing to supervise a known abuser—did report the older boy to police."

Once at Blue Creek, the boys were cut off completely from the outside world, former students and their representatives claim.

Major red flag... NEVER leave children with anyone who wants to 'cut them off' from family...

I would respectfully suggest using this “JR” guy’s last name, “Thompson”. I mean, if it were me. Just sayin’.

Our site owner has enough troubles without risking any drive-by readers and trouble makers popping in and confusing our Jim’s initials with this weird guy. Thanks.

It’s also a hit piece on homeschooling.

So what if they used A.C.E. as their curriculum?

What’s that got to do with it?

And why implicate homeschooling as if that had anything to do with what happened there? And oh, the horror, they memorized Scripture and used bible based curriculum. I guess we should outlaw that kind of thing. It’s about as bad as the rape that went on, right?

For that matter, they’re about as *Christian* as Westboro.

IOW, they aren’t.

What went on in that place and others like it is an affront to the name of Christ and inexcusable and God WILL deal with the evil they perpetrated in His Son’s name. Satan gets his best mileage out of incidents like this. It’s not Christian no matter what label is slapped on it.

However, this author is also very clearly using this to further her anti-Christian agenda and that is also reprehensible that someone whou8ld take advantage of a horrific situation like this to capitalize on it.

For all the complaints that non-Catholic Christians on this forum take for pot stirring and fomenting anger and *hatred*, was that REALLY necessary?
