Over 200 Consecrated Hosts Stolen, Desecrated in Spain Art Exhibit

Madrid, Spain, Nov 23, 2015 / 04:40 pm (CNA).- Critics of Pamplona's city council say it deliberately attacked Catholics and broke Spanish law by using city property to display a sacrilegious art exhibit with more than 240 stolen consecrated Hosts.

The Spanish artist Abel Azcona stole more than 240 consecrated Hosts by pretending to receive Holy Communion at Mass. He then placed the hosts on the ground to form the word "Pederasty" in Spanish.

Photos of the theft of the Hosts and their placement on the ground are shown in a public art gallery in Pamplona. The city council there is governed by a Basque separatist coalition called Bildu.

The Christian Lawyers Association has filed a lawsuit against Azcona for violating Spanish law. It has said the city council must pull the display by Thursday or face legal action itself.

Maider Beloki, a councilwoman from the city's Department for Culture, presented the exhibit, which is titled "Buried." The Hosts were laid out on display until a private citizen removed them from the art exhibit.

Polonia Catellanos, spokesperson for the Christian Lawyers Association, told CNA that the association has filed a lawsuit against the author of the display for "an offense against religious sentiments and desecration." The offenses are illegal under Articles 524 and 525 of the Spanish Penal Code.

The Christian Lawyers Association has filed a lawsuit.....

That's nice but if there are any real Catholics left in Barcelona, those hosts will be reclaimed forcibly, without waiting for this to meander its way through the courts........

Why doesn’t this Azcona guy be really edgy and desecrate a few Qurans for his next exhibit, given that pederasty is a way of life among the goat humpers.

Funny how artists don’t do their cutting edge artwork with anything out of a mosque or the koran...

I thought surely that can't be his picture. I was wrong. Looked it up. There are others that are worse.

Looks like he's already in hell. And the fiends always gravitate toward ugliness, they can't help it. Even if you put them in heaven, they'd create little hells around themselves.

Interesting you say that.

The first thing I said to myself when I saw his picture is “That man is desperate.”

In this excerpt, it says that a citizen removed the Hosts from the exhibit.

Prayers up.

The guy is in desperate need of an exorcist.

Sometimes not even that will help.

Jesus is with him. That could be real freaky to a guy like this in quiet times when He starts a talkin’. Conversion?

I find myself thinking a lot more about exorcism these days. There are forces of evil that truly transcend what you could call --- I am writing paradoxically --- the "humanly" or "naturally" evil.

I don't mean that any evil is good. I just mean that, humanly speaking, you can understand the motivation of a man who beats up another man because he wants his wallet, or his wife. You can understand sins based on uncontrolled greed, lust or anger. But what about sins that offer no real "payoff" in this life? Sins that are not spurred by, say, anial drive or material self-interest, transcendent sins spurred by transcendent drives, like the drive to be as ugly as possible, as blasphemous as possible? -- clearly these are spiritual, but not spiritual from "on high."

These spiritual-from-below sins: surely the sinners must be acting at the direct bidding of a diabolical master.

That's Pamplona, not Barcelona, marsh.

Basque nationalism was originally very Catholic and devout. It became radicalized during the Franco-Algerian War and now the Basques, like their Irish and Quebecois compatriots, define their nationhood in terms of nineteenth century materialism and skepticism.

Oh well . . . American Blacks used to be Fundamentalist Protestants!

You know the answer. If he did such to the Qur'an, the city would be bombed by Jihadists.
