Is the World Coming to an End?
Key Life ^ | October 5, 2015 | Steve Brown

What is going on? What does the future hold? Is the world coming to an end—really?

I don’t know about you, but I take great comfort in God’s sovereignty. We don’t get a vote (I don’t want to be in charge anyway) and all this is way above my pay grade (I can’t even fix me). The fact is, like it or not… God is God. Our King goes wherever he wants, and does whatever he wants, and whenever and however he wants.

And rest assured. When all is said and done, God’s kingdom will not end.

“But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken, and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory” (Matthew 24:29-30).

Jesus has already been given all power and authority in the world (Matthew 28:18), but because of his patience and kindness, his hand is restrained. Peter said, “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief” (2 Peter 3:9-10).

Jesus said that the kingdom could be compared to a field in which a farmer had sowed good seed. While the farmer was asleep, an enemy came and sowed some weeds in the same field. When the seeds began to grow, the weeds intermingled with the wheat and the field was a mess. When the slaves saw what had happened, they told the farmer and suggested that they pull the weeds: “But he said, ‘No; lest while you are gathering up the tares, you may root up the wheat with them. Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, ‘First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn’” (Matthew 13:29-30).

If I were not a subject of the King, I would be terribly afraid. But for those of us who serve God, the kingdom’s message is one of great joy and comfort.

Jesus told us to pray, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Someday that prayer will be gloriously answered. Someday he will return. Someday the King will claim his total sovereign rule. “The Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful” (Revelation 17:14).

Someday a trumpet will sound, and we who belong to the King will look up, and his ultimate reign will begin.

Someone told me recently about two pastors who were conducting a funeral together. One pastor was to read the Scripture and lead a prayer, and then the other pastor was to give the eulogy. As the prayer was coming to an end, the pastor who was to give the eulogy realized he had left his notes in his office two floors above the chapel. He slipped up behind the pastor who was praying and whispered in his ear, “I’m leaving. Keep praying until I get back.” That prayer was one of the longest in the history of that church, but eventually the pastor found his notes and returned to the pulpit to deliver a successful eulogy.

I have often thought about the pastor’s words, “Keep praying until I get back.” Jesus said the same thing to us. He said, “I’ll be back soon… Keep on praying until I return. Keep on keeping on until I get there.”

It’s sometimes scary. You don’t know when Jesus is coming back to clean up the mess. And frankly, you’re not sure how much longer you can keep on keeping on. But don’t worry. It won’t be so long that you’ll have to give up.

As a Christian, you have already read the end of the story. If you dream of a time when the earth will be free, justice will be perfect and men will be good, you should keep on dreaming. It is a dream that will some day be a reality.

God wins. His kingdom will not end. Jesus will return.

And you can count on it.

Time to Draw Away

Read Matthew 6:25-34, John 16:33 & Revelation 21:1-4

We know the future. We can hold onto the One who is in charge of that future. And the future God controls is bright. He has promised. And he can be trusted.

The world will go on.

The human race may not.

Both?

Did you read the book, *The Harbinger*?

He addresses that kind of issue.

Could be just like 9/11, obama is part of a series of events God is allowing to happen to us to bring us to repentance. And the events, if ignored, will continue in frequency and severity as warnings, harbingers if you will, of impending judgment.

God is a God of mercy, but there comes a time where it will not be held back and His judgment will fall. But He doesn’t do it without warning us and appealing to us.

He’d rather save than judge.

Actually, the world WILL come to an end some day but the eternal souls of men will continue forever.

The human race will continue as the redeemed and it will not be on this planet as we know it.

Question: "Is the world coming to an end?"

Answer: Yes.

Comment: However, it is important not to confuse the end times with the ongoing death throes of our Western Civilization.

I meant right now this minute.

We must think we’re pretty special to be here at the precise moment the world ends after it’s been here for billions of years.

It’s a narcissistic belief, like “now that I’m here the world should end because I am the most important person who ever lived and what would the point be of the world continuing after I am gone?”

Did God punish us with Obama or just let the nation experience its own folly embodied in the charlatan fraud and his adoring morons and hacks? Well the ancient Israelites had their share of wicked kings and rulers too. Its just that we are close to the end of an age before Messiah returns.

I think obama is the result of a steady falling away from faith in the LORD. As a nation there are fewer and fewer Christians. Sure, we have those denominations that people are born into but most of those congregants haven't even read a Bible let alone sought The Lord after seeing their sinful state.

We see the signs everywhere that the USA is no longer a Christian nation. A majority don't care about planned parenthood harvesting baby parts. A majority don't care about the normalization of homosexuality. The public schools don't allow prayer and creationism/intelligent design is considered a joke.

Islam is a threat world wide. Just what are you doing on a practical level to fight it and change things?

I for one support missionaries that share The Gospel throughout the middle east. I also donate to Gospel for Asia and Voice of the Martyrs. When possible I share The Gospel with muslims and most importantly I trust God will save those lost souls that He intends to before the end.

The world is not coming to an end. Everybody can relax.

Is it going to get better than it is today? Probably not right away.

Everything reverts to the mean.

Jesus might show up today, or not foa millennium. If one sits around piously waiting, one would be wasting a lot of good time. Stop worrying about what goes on ten thousand miles away. Start finding out what’s going on next door.

Who’s sitting around piously?

Not any Christians I know.

You’re preaching to the choir.

Honestly, I don’t know why recognizing the signs of the times results in so many assumptions about what people are doing (or not doing) about it.

Well, for those Christians who are being massacred by an Islamist enemy throughout the Middle East, and wherever else this enemy is on the march. . .their 'End of World', already is.

For rest of the 'infidel world' - the one this enemy, beholds - in an absence of moral, rational judgment, per our responding to such threat - our 'end of world'. . .will follow.

Allowing a Genocide; a Patricide; a 'War on Western Civilization'. . .is a gross and deadly misunderstanding of 'Love Your Neighbor'. And with End of World, as we know it, consequences.

Whenever anything happens that doesn’t seem right to us we simply say “It must be His will.”

The Almighty placed Adam and Eve in the garden with one instruction - Man & woman failed to follow it.

Next, God Almighty wrote his will on stone tablets for all mankind to follow - Man & woman failed to follow them.

Finally the Son of God appeared and carefully taught the way for man to live - Man & woman is failing this too.

Knowing the end from the beginning, and man's nature, the Almighty created a gate back to the garden. It lies at the end of the path of righteousness. A map of the path is free for the asking and the gate will open for all who follow the path.

So it's obvious the Almighty created man & woman with free will. The problem is we seldom use it responsibly.

:-)

One of the main points of your comment is a good one that needs repeating. This world ends for all of us, individually, in the near future, not hundreds or thousand or millions of years from now.

In about 800 million years the sun will have heated enough to evaporate the oceans.

Science says the sun is getting smaller...Might want to stock up on firewood and flashlight batteries...

I was very careful in my wording. I specifically used the term “one” instead of a third person “you.”

I am writing in general, not addressing you or anyone else specifically.

God is not protecting America any more.

If He wasn't, we'd already be gone.
