The bodily asumption is theologoumennon, though I personally have never met an Orthodox Christian who didn’t believe it. The Dormition, meaning “The Falling Asleep” or death of the Most Holy Theotokos is simply a fact.

For Roman Catholics, it’s the opposite: the Assumption is a dogma, but whether she died is not defined.

Hi Delchiante and Knarf - my answer is about the word Mother of God not about suppose quotes of Mary by apparitions. Catholics do not have to believe in any of these so called visitations. If I did I would not be a Catholic Christian.

Relatively recent innovation, isn’t it? Pius XII? I think before that you folks believed as we did. That said, the belief in the assumption is all but universal among the Orthodox. We’re just not quick to dogmatise much.

Yes, Pius XII in 1950, but it was widely observed from at least the 6th Century.

The Assumption is my favorite Marian feast.

We’ve all been observing it for a very, very long time! Do you guys fast for the first 15 days of August?

No, I had never heard of such a thing until I saw it on FR a few days ago. It’s possible that, way back in our Latin calendar, there was a fast, and I just wasn’t aware of it.

My mother gets upset when I don’t eat. I have a history of anorexia, most recently only a couple of years ago. 106 lbs., I was so thin, sigh ...

Some nice shrimp and garlic and olive oil and gnocchi and asparagus and pine nuts or a plate of gnocchi with chunks of squash and garlic and Parmesan and pine nuts or pistachios....Not completely fasting, but close and good and filling!

“But on the other hand, cooking it for 12 ...”

Easy...just make “enough” (it’s a Greek unit of measure!).

Well .. I think you’re making a mountain out of a mole hill. The dates could just be symbolic - for whatever reasons the persons decided to use that date. Even today we have dates that are listed for convenience .. a Friday or a Monday; but the event is still celebrated.

I don’t see why the exact date is so critical .. to me it’s more important that the event is celebrated.

To the world, thanks to Rome, today is saturns day, caesaer augustus’ 1st day of His month..
A holy sabbath day to judiasm and some christians-

On our Heavenly Father’s calendar, according to His Word and His Creation, it is His 1st Work Day, the 16th day of His 5th month..a work day. And tomorrow is also a work day on His calendar ( a calendar that can be found in scripture)

A day after His 7th Day Sabbath.(which means those muslims and their Friday prayers stumbled into His Sabbath unawares)

Daniel 7:25
And He (out of Daniel’s 4th Beast) shall speak words against the Most High , and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to CHANGE TIMES and LAWS..

it isn’t an accident the satanic enemy in Revelation 13 breaks and causes the people to break His first 4 Commandments- those that deal with worship.

His Days really do matter.. So much His Son was born on an appointed day, circumcised on an appointed day, dedicated in the temple on an appointed day, baptized on an appointed day, laid His life down as the Lamb on an appointed day, rested in the Tomb on an appointed day ,and raised from the dead on an appointed time.

All appointed times He taught Israel. That all can be known when one knows when the Word made flesh was born. And the clue is found in Revelation 12.
When the sun clothed the woman and the moon was under her feet
In 2014, that sign in His Heavens occurred on September 26.
And 2000 years ago, it was earlier in the year due to what science calls the precession of the equinox.

There are many scholars that see Rome as the 4th beast in Daniel 7.
That would mean the world setting its work and worship life from a Roman calendar, named after a Pope (Pope gregory-gregorian) is either the most unusual coincidence in these last days or prophetic..

Not a mountain over a mole hill at all. Satan runs the world on a calendar that is a counterfeit of the Creators design. (Ezekiel 46 gives us the template, for your review) and it is designed to steal worship from Him.

The angel in Revelation gives us the warning,- Worship Him who made heaven, the earth, sea and fountains- which is similar to the remember the Sabbath commandment(See Exodus 20:11)

Satan has people working when the Father says worship and worshipping on days the Father says work.

Not some future time- but everyday right now..

Be blessed to know how Satan ascends to the mount of congregation and tries to be like the Most High..
Because it happens right under the world’s noses..
