Your Secure Inheritance (from the book "Drawing Near") (Protestant/Evangelical Caucus)

"To obtain an inheritance which is . . . reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Pet. 1:4-5).

Your eternal inheritance is doubly secure: it is reserved for you, and you are reserved for it.

When Peter wrote his first epistle, attitudes toward Christians in the Roman Empire were not at all favorable. Because they would not worship the emperor as a god, or enter into other sinful pagan practices, Christians were looked upon with suspicion and disdain. In addition, Nero had blamed them for burning Rome (an act he himself perpetrated), so anger and hatred toward them was at its peak.

Peter wrote to encourage them—and all believers—to live out their faith amid persecution, just as Jesus had done when He suffered unjustly (cf. 1 Pet. 2:21-23). He reminded them that despite the sufferings they might endure in this life, God will reward them with an inheritance that is eternally secure because it is reserved in heaven for them.

"Reserved" in 1 Peter 1:4 indicates an inheritance that already exists, is presently protected, and will continually be protected. The place of its protection is heaven, where "neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal" (Matt. 6:20), and where "nothing unclean and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever [enter], but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life" (Rev. 21:27). There is no safer place!

Not only is your inheritance protected for you, but also you are protected for it! That's what Peter meant when he said that it is "reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Pet. 1:4-5). The omnipotent, sovereign power of God will continually protect you until His work is fully accomplished in your life. Then He will grant you glorification: the fullness of the salvation for which He redeemed you.

You needn't fear the loss of your inheritance. Instead, rejoice in the protection of our gracious God.

Suggestions for Prayer

Thank God for His protection and for the assurance of your inheritance.

"That's what Peter meant when he said that it is "reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Pet. 1:4-5)."

Amen thank God!

1 Peter 1:13 "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ"

Others translations have...
"set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace..." (AMP)
"set your hope perfectly on the grace..." (ASP)
"place your hope completely on the grace...(CEB)
"hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace..." (Darby)
"put-your-hope completely upon the grace..." (DLNT)
etc etc etc...surely we get the picture?

Lean FULLY on God's GRACE!

God loves us and wants us wearing His "helmet of salvation" so we actually can...'prepare our minds for action'

Thanks for the post mm!

God bless!

1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Not much has changed over the centuries has it? They still hate us for not entering in other sinful pagan practices. Greetings all.

I wouldn’t have a problem with that, fwiw.

(fwiw from myself as for this, most likely = “not berry much”)

It comes to mind, that according to local rules (see religion moderator homepage) people can be invited to join in, even if they don't otherwise self-identify as being member of whatever 'caucus' designation...

So, I have no problem with it. Some porosity could be a good thing?

I’m an Evangelical Catholic.

Never heard of it before.Where did the term come from?

Would you care to elucidate about why you think that would qualify you?

BTW, that is not a *yes*.

Based on discussion I see here (see posts 126, 127, and 129), the answer would be "no".

” When you find men who have been enlightened, who have experienced salvation and received the Holy Spirit, who have known the wholesome nourishment of the Word of God and touched the spiritual resources of the eternal world and who then fall away, it proves impossible to make them repent as they did at first. For they are re-crucifying the Son of God in their own souls, and by their conduct exposing him to shame and contempt. Ground which absorbs the rain that is constantly falling upon it and produces plants which are useful to those who cultivate it, is ground which has the blessing of God. But ground which produces nothing but thorns and thistles is of no value and is bound sooner or later to be condemned—the only thing to do is to burn it clean.”

Hebrews 6:4-8, JB Phillips translation

FWIW, here is Calvin’s commentary on the passage:

“But here arises a new question, how can it be that he who has once made such a progress should afterwards fall away? For God, it may be said, calls none effectually but the elect, and Paul testifies that they are really his sons who are led by his Spirit, (Romans 8:14;) and he teaches us, that it is a sure pledge of adoption when Christ makes us partakers of his Spirit. The elect are also beyond the danger of finally falling away; for the Father who gave them to be preserved by Christ his Son is greater than all, and Christ promises to watch over them all so that none may perish. To all this I answer, That God indeed favors none but the elect alone with the Spirit of regeneration, and that by this they are distinguished from the reprobate; for they are renewed after his image and receive the earnest of the Spirit in hope of the future inheritance, and by the same Spirit the Gospel is sealed in their hearts. But I cannot admit that all this is any reason why he should not grant the reprobate also some taste of his grace, why he should not irradiate their minds with some sparks of his light, why he should not give them some perception of his goodness, and in some sort engrave his word on their hearts. Otherwise, where would be the temporal faith mentioned by Mark 4:17? There is therefore some knowledge even in the reprobate, which afterwards vanishes away, either because it did not strike roots sufficiently deep, or because it withers, being choked up. 98

And by this bridle the Lord keeps us in fear and humility; and we certainly see how prone human nature is otherwise to security and foolish confidence. At the same time our solicitude ought to be such as not to disturb the peace of conscience. For the Lord strengthens faith in us, while he subdues our flesh: and hence he would have faith to remain and rest tranquilly as in a safe haven; but he exercises the flesh with various conflicts, that it may not grow wanton through idleness.”

Frankly, I think the plain & obvious meaning of the passage is that some DO fall away and renounce Christ, even after experiencing God’s grace. I agree with Calvin in this, they are the ones Jesus mentioned:

“Similarly, the seed sown among the rocks represents those who hear the message without hesitation and accept it joyfully. But they have no real roots and do not last—when trouble or persecution arises because of the message, they give up their faith at once.”

For us, not having perfect knowledge, I think it is safe to say we need to cling to Christ. IN HIM we are blessed.

Based on discussion I see here (see posts 126, 127, and 129), the answer would be "no".

That would be a correct assumption to make.

If I understand the caucus rules correctly, even the mention of the name would cause the caucus label to be broken.

Not to mention that after some research, it would seem best to avoid that as it nullifies the very purpose of the caucus label.

You are certainly free to read the threads as you wish, as is anyone on FR.

You are also free to post threads of your own presenting an alternate point of view.

However, in light of recent developments on the RF, it would be best for all to avoid any opportunity for anyone to be bashed or accuse others of bashing.

So, ngtia, *No, thanks*. But, feel free to join us on any non-caucus thread posted.

We would not have known if you hadn’t told us.

(Well; maybe checking your posting history we would have.)

If we play nice with each other; we are ALL welcome anywhere on FR. (I think)
