That's not the purpose of FR and not the purpose of our Religion forum. Trashing religion is not debate.

Those who cannot live with this are welcome to post elsewhere.

Yeah I’d say this thread shows a few who would be on my zot list.

Why is a conversion story an attack?

Yeah really...and it’s just as much Jim’s property as his front yard.

And arguing with Jim in his front yard is a pretty foolish thing to do.

It tends to bring out the lightning and thunder.

So true. At Mass this morning there was a Muslim. All dressed up fancy in white satin.

I didn’t get a chance to talk to him, but would have liked to find out what he thought of the Mass.

He seemed quite reverent. Maybe he wants to convert — who knows?

Why can’t you answer the question I asked?

Do you “bash” Islam? Would you care to define “bash” so we are all on the same page?

I did not ask you an easy question. In fact, I will admit I would have problems with it myself but you are evading the question. So is Jim Robinson and I would expect him more than anyone here to give that question some thought and an answer.

I will not accept the “I know bashing when I see it.” Even a philosophical yet incomplete expression would be far better than the subterfuge.

the OWNER just said knock off the catholic bashing

"bashing" is a word so abused by the left it is nearly impossible to figure out what it means, especially when both sides feel they are legitimate in their passions.

So I agree in part and dissent in part with what trubolotta has said. In dissent, I would say one should always speak discreetly of the one whose house this is. His rules do apply, even if they are fatally ambiguous.

And I agree in part because this anti-bashing rule is indeed fatally ambiguous. In real-world law, ambiguity makes laws unenforceable. If the ban is to be enforced, it must be clear enough that we all know how to avoid an infraction, without retreating into total silence. I honestly don't think that's too much to ask.

Peace,

SR

“Why can’t you answer the question I asked?”

A)It’s a stupid question.

B)You’ve been shown examples of “bashing”.

C)I dont have to.

I will not accept the “I know bashing when I see it.” Even a philosophical yet incomplete expression would be far better than the subterfuge.

On the whole, Catholic conversion stories start out with "Thank God I was raised in a Christian home..." whereas the obvious bashing threads start "Thank God I was rescued from the whore of babylon". It's not that hard to tell the difference.

SinnFein mixed its militaristic Catholicism and violence with a political desire to see all Ireland united under one country, as a Catholic country and the Brits kicked out. There was nothing really Catholic or Christian about who they were and what they did.

Thank you so much, Jim, and may God bless you!

(And may God bless all our brothers and sisters of good will of any religion -- or non-religion -- who post or lurk here on this magnificent website.)

Here is a song for all my Christian brothers and sisters to meditate on today, as well as a word from our Lord.

♫    They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love    ♫

"By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

I was actually wondering the same thing. I like Catholics and I’ve got no problems with the religion, but this pope is pretty edgy.

Are we allowed to question the pope?

(I happen to know that quite a few Catholics are bothered by him as well.)

The Pope besides being the leader of the Catholic Church is a public figure who expressed opinions pertinent to public policy. I see no reason why those public statements should be immune to legitimate criticism from either Catholics or non Catholics. That is totally different than bashing based on the Pope’s religious practices.

If you write that the Pope does not understand the economic consequences of endorsing AWG that is certainly a valid point. That would not be bashing. If you write the Pope is a disciple of the devil who is plotting to bring back temples to Norse gods and make everyone bow down to them that would be bollocks.
