Tax-Exempt Status of Churches Imperiled
http://www.catholicleague.org ^ | June 29, 2015 | William Donohue

Posted on 06/29/2015 1:36:51 PM PDT by NKP_Vet

There aren’t enough homosexuals to wage war on religious institutions—they comprise only 1.6 percent of the population—but they have plenty of support among elites. From Wall Street to Wal-Mart, the corporate elite has gone lavender, embracing the gay-rights movement with as much gusto as exercised by elites in education, the arts, the entertainment industry, and the media. Will they now take the next step and attempt to shut down the churches? Anyone who thinks that radical activists will stop with gay marriage is ignorant: The big prize has always been to force the churches to fall in line. Consider Mark Oppenheimer, who writes a biweekly column for the New York Times. His post of June 28, featured at Time.com, calls on the IRS to revoke the tax-exempt status of houses of worship. The only difference between Oppenheimer and others in the lavender camp is his willingness to put down a marker right after the high court victory. Others will wait. Now if this becomes an issue in the presidential campaign—it is up to those opposed to gay marriage to make it one—it is going to be very hard for Hillary to make Oppenheimer’s case. Even so, this offers little comfort. Stealth politics is what the left is good at, and on this issue they will have their unelected surrogates at the IRS do their bidding. There will also be legal challenges—the ACLU sued before trying to shut down the Catholic Church—so keep your eye on left-wing non-profits. Count on Americans United for Separation of Church and State to flex its muscles, along with a host of other militant foes of religious liberty. Surely extremists in the atheist community will relish the fight. Religious leaders are going to be pressed on this issue like nothing we’ve seen before. They had better be ready—the other side is.

I think it might be worth saying no to the tax exempt status and being able to do what you want. With tax exempt you have to follow the government, without it, you are free to do as you please. Sounds worth it to me to pay a little bit of extra taxes. I think churches should consider it at least.

Private, tax-paying businesses are being forced to participate in homosexual events. There’s no reason to believe for-profit status would prevent churches from being forced to comply, as well.

The consequence of church leaders not knowing key points about the Constitution and is history is the following. Church leaders are clueless to argue that the Supreme Court has clarified that the Congress is prohibited from laying taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue which Congress cannot justify under is constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

And none of the clauses in Section 8 say anything about churches. So when churches get attacked with unconstitutional federal taxes, they deserve part of the blame for their inexcusable ignorance of the Constitution and its history imo.

This isn't difficult to resolve for any religious organization/denomination.Just declare that your congregation/diocese/denomination will no longer perform, anywhere in the United States, any ceremony that is considered a legal marriage.Go on to say that that congregation/denomination will,in future, perform religious ceremonies to *bless* the unions of couples that it considers worthy of such a blessing according to its teachings/beliefs.After (or before) that blessing the couple is free to visit a justice of the peace if they wish to be considered "married" in the eyes of *the law*.

Also, obviously, any congregation is free to perform ceremonies that *are* considered legal marriages.

So nationwide it could be easy to find a church/synagogue that only blesses a couple while right down the street you can find one which blesses *and* marries a couple.

Perfect adherence to the First Amendment by *both* congregations.

My daughter dragged me to the Catholic church close to my house. Most everyone on platform was practicing homosexual and blatantly so. Their message was that they have already won everything. For the Catholic Church to deny them marriage is rejected by the court and the church must obey.

But they went beyond that. They take the court ruling to mean that they won everything and nobody can deny them anything.

And the priest blessed it all, as he has been blessing their civil marriages.

It was totally in-your-face.

With paragraphs.

Bill Donohue comments on how the legalization of gay marriage will not be enough to satisfy radical activists:

There aren’t enough homosexuals to wage war on religious institutions—they comprise only 1.6 percent of the population—but they have plenty of support among elites. From Wall Street to Wal-Mart, the corporate elite has gone lavender, embracing the gay-rights movement with as much gusto as exercised by elites in education, the arts, the entertainment industry, and the media. Now if this becomes an issue in the presidential campaign—it is up to those opposed to gay marriage to make it one—it is going to be very hard for Hillary to make Oppenheimer’s case. That does not sound like a normal Catholic Church.

Our priest gave a 20 minute homily on the evil of this decision at a Daily Mass.

He was in Chicago over the weekend with an aunt who is dying.

He promised to talk about it next weekend.

God bless him.

The Catholic Church will survive. Our nation will not.

It's time to kneel down and pray for our nation

Well, it is going to be interesting to see how liberals handle this since they will be forced to go after black churches as well. Even more interesting is that the black community is far more anti-gay “marriage” than the white community.

This was the early Church. Not a building, not a parish, not a denomination. House to house, and we are about to go there again, where street preachers will preach the truth, and people will come to the Lord, and they will go from house to house breaking bread and praising the Lord

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

So now they insist that churches teach what they want them to teach which is an abomination to God.

Yep ... and some day coming to all IRS 501-C3 tax-exempt churches in America.

Don't blame me ... I'm just the messenger.

Questions ?

Muster up the courage to do the free IRS download of "Pamplet P1828" which specifies the legal details of your tax-exempt church's sertitude to it's U.S. Government Masters.

All denominations are under attack by Satan. Hopefully someone will notify the bishop of this priest’s behaviour.

IF your parish priest is blessing civil unions between homos, do you still "protect" him?

This is no longer a nation of laws, "they" won't be "forced" to do anything about black churches any more than the USSC is forced to stick to the Constitution which in this case they very clearly did not.

The bottom line is what the men who rule now that we're not a nation of laws understand. At this point in time, they rule and topple rulers with mobs because they've been bred and taught to believe, "No mobs in the streets, no opposition".

Were there any mobs in the streets while this was considered?

Are there any mobs in the streets today?

Have there been mobs in the street over businesses being shut down for not kissing the feet of queers?

In fact, have there been any mobs in the streets over anything since the mass demonstration against BarryCare quietly went home and left the future of BarryCare in the hands of the same corrupt system that was bastardized in order to pass it ?

When their right to practice their faith was threatened, the Cristeros shed more than tears over their loss of freedom to practice their faith. So far, Constitution Loving Americans (I've heard the theory they're at least nearly equal in number to the scum but since BarryCare I'm not so sure about that) have done nothing since 1973 that would lead anyone to believe they'll do more than shed tears then play the same losing game that led to this result in the first place.

IOW, they'll make noise, whimper, then slink away like the whipped dogs they've become.
