Unless they're Democrat politicians.

Good thing they are holding true to The Word of God. Any church that embraces and sanctions fake gays marriage will receive a harsh judgement from the Lord. Perverting the Master’s design of marriage will have severe consequences to come—perhaps later than sooner but come it will.

My apologies. I thought it was a Catholic bishop.

As one who has quite an interest in all the various ancient chrstianities who has been Catholic and worshiped in Orthodox and Armenian churches, I assure you that I do know the difference between Catholics and Orthodox. Perhaps more than many Catholics (who seem to think EO is Catholicism without the Pope) do.

PS: I suppose I should have known that no Catholic bishop would ever call for refusing communion to any liberal politician.

Agudath Israel statement on same-sex marriage

By Avi Shafran, on May 9th, 2012

In the wake of President Obama’s sharing of his personal feeling that the millennia-old institution of marriage should be redefined in contemporary America, National Jewish Democratic Council chair Marc R. Stanley declared his admiration for the president’s demonstration of “the values of tikkun olam.”

A political group is entitled to its opinion, no less than a president is to his. But to imply that a religious value like “tikkun olam” – and by association, Judaism – is somehow implicated in a position like the one the president articulated, is outrageous, offensive and wrong.

We hereby state, clearly and without qualification, that the Torah forbids homosexual acts, and sanctions only the union of a man and a woman in matrimony.

The Orthodox Jewish constituency represented by Agudath Israel of America, as well as countless other Jews who respect the Jewish religious tradition, remain staunch in their opposition to redefining marriage.

Let’s hope the Marxist Pope doesn’t replace the good Cardinal.

http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/322380/orthodox-union-statement-on-supreme-courts-same-gender-marriage-ruling.html

Today, the leadership of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America issued the following statement:

“In response to the decisions announced today by the United States Supreme Court with reference to the issue of legal recognition of same sex marriage, we reiterate the historical position of the Jewish faith, enunciated unequivocally in our Bible, Talmud and Codes, which forbids homosexual relationships and condemns the institutionalization of such relationships as marriages.

Our religion is emphatic in defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman. Our beliefs in this regard are unalterable.

At the same time, we note that Judaism teaches respect for others and we condemn discrimination against individuals...”

What Cardinal? If you refer to bishop Paul, he is Eastern Orthodox. What the The Red Pope does or doesn’t do is not of great interest to us.

“What the The Red Pope does or doesn’t do is not of great interest to us.”

That’s far from true. Ask the EP or the MP if they care what Pope Francis does and they will emphatically say yes.

June 26, 2015

St. David of Thessalonica No. 119

To all Clergy, Monastics, and Faithful of the Diocese of the Midwest:

As many of you are aware, on Friday, June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States of America issued a 5-4 decision to overturn all bans of same-sex marriage by states, and affirmed this union as being a constitutional right. In effect, the court has ruled that same-sex marriages can be legally performed by all states in our country.

As your bishop — and from the perspective of the Church — nothing has changed. Even though same-sex marriage is “legal,” no blessings will be given to any priests to conduct same sex-marriages in our parishes. Those who are in same-sex marriages conducted by their respective states who are unrepentant will not be communed.

I would encourage our clergy and faithful to re-read the “Synodal Affirmation on the Mystery of Marriage,” issued by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America exactly two years ago, on June 26, 2013, which may be accessed at http://oca.org/holy-synod/statements/holy-synod/synodal-affirmation-of-the- mystery-of-marriage. Likewise, I would urge our clergy and faithful to re-read the 2013 Statement from the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA, “On Marriage,” which may be accessed at http://assemblyofbishops.org/about/documents/2013-assembly-statement-on-marriage-and-sexuality.

There is much more I would like to say on this issue, but it seemed good to at least release this brief statement at this time.

Meanwhile, I urge our Midwest Diocesan clergy to read and/or distribute the Synodal Affirmation and Assembly Statement in their parishes.

Your servant in Christ,

Paul
Bishop of Chicago and the Midwest

“Ask the EP or the MP if they care what Pope Francis does and they will emphatically say yes.”

I am not sure why Roman Catholics seem to put so much stock in the Ecumenical Patriarchate. If there is anyone in the Orthodox world who is as suspect as Francis is among orthodox Catholics, it is Black Bart. His influence is FAR more limited than most Catholics seem to grasp. As for Moscow, their interest in Rome ends where Rome diverges from Orthodoxy. Excepting the monks of Mt. Athos and the Jerusalem Patriarchate, I’d say that the Russian Church is the center of anti-Catholic sentiment in the Orthodox World.

“I am not sure why Roman Catholics seem to put so much stock in the Ecumenical Patriarchate.”

Because an increasing number of Orthodox do. His influence is growing not waning. It is happening precisely because he is not tainted by ethnophyletism as much as every other Orthodox Church in the Old World. Without a pope, someone like the EP is needed. Who else could make this a possibility?: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonian_Apostolic_Orthodox_Church There has to be someone not bound to a national Church in Orthodoxy, and “Black Bart” as you call him is all there is.

“As for Moscow, their interest in Rome ends where Rome diverges from Orthodoxy.”

Nope. They need to learn from us - as they themselves keep tacitly admitting: http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2011/03/moscow-to-rome-yes-to-cooperation-no-to.html We don’t really need them, but the Russians very much need the help of Western Christians as they wrestle with modernity. Quite frankly I think they overestimate how much we can offer them in their limited understanding of what is at stake.

“Excepting the monks of Mt. Athos and the Jerusalem Patriarchate, I’d say that the Russian Church is the center of anti-Catholic sentiment in the Orthodox World.”

Perhaps, but that is the narcissism of minor differences. The Russian Orthodox Church is the one closest to the Catholic Church in many respects. The Russians will say that’s crazy but it is true. Russian priests sometimes said the rosary using Catholic rosaries just over a century ago but that fact has been scrubbed from their collective history. The ROC is doing a lot of good but is also Putin’s lapdog just as in the days of the Tsar. The ROC must put Christ FIRST and not the state. They do not have the spiritual strength to do that yet. If they did, they would not be so supportive of Putin’s war mongering and would be much more conciliatory with the breakaway Churches in the Ukraine which only exist because the MP was such a toady of the KGB and Communist Party. As a supporter of the Russian Orthodox Church in Communion with Rome I hope one day to see Russia and the Church reconciled. That won’t happen until the Russians and Ukrainians reconcile with each other.

http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/322402/statement-from-agudath-israel-of-america-on-the-supreme-court-ruling-regarding-same-gender-marriage.html

...“Moreover, we are deeply concerned that, as a result of today’s ruling, and as the dissenting Justices have pointed out, members and institutions of traditional communities like the Orthodox Jewish community we represent may incur moral opprobrium and risk tangible negative consequence if they refuse to transgress their beliefs, and even if they simply teach and express their religious views publicly. That prospect is chilling, and should be unacceptable to all people of good will on both sides of this debate.

“We reiterate that we remain firm and steadfast in our own religious beliefs, and reject the voices of those in the heterodox Jewish community who claim that same-sex marriage is compatible with Jewish law and tradition...”
