And Protestant pastors? No gays, no murderers, no bigamists; no adulterers? No Jessica Hahns? No Jimmy Swaggarts? No David Koresh’s? No Jim Jones?

“besides the plethora of other poor pro-papal polemics in this prolix pasted propaganda” Oh that was GOOD! I’m so knocked down I can’t even holler ‘Again, ‘tis but a flesh wound.’

Wow! You might want to remove that burr under the saddle before galloping further along. The immorality of the ones you cited was not the least focus of the thread. BTW, I was gobsmacked to see little Jimmy Bakker is back into television grifting. Has his own show again and is disguising himself behind a white beard and stash. What a sad creature that one.

For God’s sakes people stop it! We are under cultural attack from every possible angle. There is no time for this, not now.

Not making sense to me.

Most of what I see posted is NOT Scripture! Instead, it is fairy tales and fables perpetuated by a cult. They are seldom founded in Scripture, except by distorting and twisting. It's more about Saint so-and-so, than Our Father (except in rote repetitions as some forced penance). I don't see Christians doing those Roman Catholic things in my Bible.

I posted a comment. I posted Scripture. The words are related, but the Scripture is Inspired. I depend on the Holy Spirit to provide me with those quotes, not a cult's calendar.

Indeed, I see the Mary worship and so much idolatry, and references within those posts which are completely dependent on believing in the Easter bunny and Santa Claus. They make as much sense.

Sorry, but maybe I should have pinged you. This is not a RC thread! I was posting to another Christian about the habits of some on this forum. "If the shoe fits, ..."!

Romans 8: 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The true Church will be founded by Jesus Christ Himself in Mt 16:18. It would be built on Simon Peter,

Sorry, the author fails right there at the begining. The Church is not built on the person Jesus called Satan (in the same chapter), it is built on the foundational principle that Jesus is the son of the living God.

To: Morgana; All

This is the Religion Forum. I hate the word Protestant but for all intents am one. Morgana has the right to post this and we have the right to rebut it.

There is a lot of “Why, at THIS time, are you posting _______?” I’d venture that these discussions are MUCH MORE important than getting sidetracked into the rotten fleshcapades of those whose “reward is in this life” (Psalm 17:14).

“Let the dead bury their own dead.” We sharpen ourselves here by wrestling with ETERNAL matters.

Excellent. Every time I read this sort of stuff and the arguments ensue, it reminds me why I’m not Christian.

Proving that the Catholic faith is true, does not make Protestants “heathens worse than animists.”

You are naive, or willfully ignorant, if you don't see through this.

Well, your understanding is wrong. Proving that the Catholic faith is true, does not make Protestants “heathens worse than animists.”

On numerous posts you have declared persons like myself a non-Catholic "Protestant" an apostate and going to hell...right along with the “heathens...and animists.”

Well, which is it...?

Does Christ save me or the Catholic Church ?

That is a nice summary of selected major Catholic cult wrongs.

When a church claims that it alone is uniquely the one true church, and that one cannot even validly know what Scripture consists or means apart from faith in them, then we do have a cult.

And thus so many of its members defend it with blind cultic devotion, and do not have the fellowship in Christ which born again evangelicals realize, due to a shared transformative regeneration and relationship with Christ.

Does Christ save me or the Catholic Church ?

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
John, Catholic chapter seventeen, Protestant verses eleven to twenty six,

Thanks for posting and I will pray for fortitude for you as you will need spiritual armor since you almost certainly will come under attack. There is a double standard on these threads:

It is OK for anti-catholics to post polemics - one poster puts up anti catholic propaganda at least twice a week or more, and that is considered OK. But God forbid a Catholic should put up an article defending and explaining the Church’s actual doctrine based on scripture because that is considered to be hatred; in fact, particularly if it contains scripture, because only anti catholics feel justified to quote scripture since they have been taught and actually believe the absurd lie that Catholics are “unscriptural”. This occurs even though the Catholic explanation does not contain any vicious language or ad hominem attacks.

Therein lies the complete lack of civil discourse and conversation on these topics. The moderation rules ought to be changed: individual name-calling and attack is not allowed (deo gratias or things would be worse); group name calling should be banned as well.

“Cross talk” where groups are talked about (mocked and derided which is actually not Christian and proscribed in the bible) in a side conversation on the thread needs to be banned also; I have read that this type of “cross talk” is forbidden at twelve step meetings because it is destructive and harmful and does nothing to promote healing. These RF threads ought to have a similar rule instituted.

At any rate, I will pray for this thread.

On topic:

Not well known but true, is the fact that Martin Luther made up his own bible translation for the Germans (mostly FROM the Vulgate, the Catholic canon) pretty much as he pleased; he “found” the entire doctrines of sola fida and sola scriptura, etc. using just one or two verses; other scripture he considered “obscure”, nullifying his own “all scripture is useful” premise.

Somehow God kept Christians from the “correct” (i.e. no sacraments) understanding if the the Truth for 1500 years!

St. Irenaeus ora pro nobis

Sts. Peter and Paul; ora pro nobis

I realize that this post contains the “cross talk” that I believe ought to be banned - however in order to solve the problem it has to be defined before it can be done away with, and that was the intent here.

Thank you for that uplifting verse...

I am waiting in great anticipation for the response from Vlad on whether or not Christ only can save me or am I doomed to hell for not being a Catholic...

He has told me just that on several threads...

It's pretty absurd that a cafeteria Catholic has a greater chance of entering into heaven verses a Protestant...according to him...
