Things Are Going to Get Very Tough, Very Quickly, for the Church and Her Allies

Most were not surprised by the Supreme Court decision today. Court watchers who had attended the hearings earlier this year were rather certain that the mood of the court was to find a constitutional right to marriage and extend it to those with same-sex attraction.

I am not a lawyer and will not therefore speak to the legal demerits of this decision. Others, including the minority on the Court, can speak to that.

But as a citizen I wonder how we have come to a place in our legal and legislative system where unelected judges for life, who in effect answer to no one, can make such increasingly common and sweeping decisions regarding basic human institutions.

Increasingly in our nation, many are beginning to feel quite powerless over the most basic aspects of their life. Governmental decisions in both the executive and judicial branches of government are eclipsing and overruling plebiscites and laws crafted by and enacted by elected legislators, who are answerable to the American people.  Judges are imposing, often at brisk speed, sweeping changes with little opportunity for appeal or redress. The wide use of executive power by presidents has also become wide and sweeping in the same matters.

The balance of power has shifted dramatically toward the judicial branch and judges who “know better” than the American people or their elected legislators.

Clearly there's a place for judicial review of laws and policies. But it's increasingly evident that the judicial activism of recent decades is way out of balance.

Sadly, both conservatives and liberals have often had recourse to courts for matters that really should have been handled in the giveand-take of the legislative process. Too many people have preferred to gamble with judicial fiats, rather than building political consensus.

kowtowing on global warming and socialism won’t save them from the left.

That is very remarkable, God is blessing your Church.

Nikita S. Khrushchev was right! We would fall from the enemies within, not from some straggling army from abroad.

I have family and acquaintances who buy into the gay pride meme, not because they are inclined, attuned to, or practice willful deviance, but because they want to identify with people who are often subject to mistreatment and disrespect. Their hearts are compassionate for the oppressed, and that is a quality to be admired, but they do not seem to have a clue how this recent court ruling damages the fabric of a Constitutional Republic. Decisions of this import ought never defer to a small body of ideologues.

The deviants will never sway public opinion about what they are. Look at race issues in this country today; how has the anti-white, pro-black government propaganda campaign (in place since at least the election of BJ Clinton in 1992) worked so far?

It has absolutely failed...

I believe that is the route the Catholic Church will take, too.

My Facebook page was ablaze with rainbow flag posts. I am officially disconnected from Facebook as of today. I cannot post my viewpoints without massive unfriending. Good riddance!

2003 was pre-Francis. Have we heard any condemnation from the Vatican today? Or is Francis too concerned with his global warming problem? He also didn’t seem concerned about Ireland’s sanctioning of sodomy.

We are totally ruled by the president and the supreme court. Congress is no longer relevant and should be disbanded. Nature itself has been altered by the supreme court and God defied.

Francis can't change the Deposit of Faith. The 2003 Instruction was simply an application of the Deposit of Faith.

If you believe he can, you have far more faith in his abilities than I.

“A one or two percent segment of our population is turning the country upside down.”

No; it’s the uninformed dumb asses who voted Obama into power.
They all support this childish nonsense.

Our nation was set up to have an educated, informed, involved populace.
That segment of voters is very small.

Polygamy, here we come!

Pederasty is the next stop.

Beyond that, marry your dog!

Frankly, I’d rather marry my dog than get involved with gay marriage. < /sarcasm—but only partly >

Yes, he can't. But His Humbleness thinks he can. That's the problem.

A one or two percent segment of our population is turning the country upside down.

We flatter ourselves by thinking this is 1-2 percent. No, it is more like 20-30%. Not those who practice this lifestyle, but those who passionately and whole-heartedly support it. There is another 20-30% who support it in a lukewarm manner. Those who passionately oppose it on religious grounds is only about 40-50%.

Didn’t he say something to the effect of “who am I to judge” a couple years ago? No more needs to be said!
