What would I or you say if we were asked if we were a Christian? If we were a Catholic?

In a sense, all Christians are “on trial by the world” for being Christian. It might not always be a formal judge’s chambers run by a formal Caesar. The world is always calling serious Christians too this, too that, too the other thing, and to heighten the ridiculousness, it doesn’t give a care for its own logical inconsistencies it shows in the process.

It’s time for Christians to stop being offended by such happenings, which are par for the course. Instead, Christians ought to be going on the gospel offense. Kind of a sacred version of “If this be treason, let us make the most of it” if such an expression may be kindly understood. And if they really do it well, Christians are going to find themselves at odds with Caesar too.

I agree.

Does Jesus save Catholics as well as Christians?

1 Peter 4:12-17

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, a criminal, or even as a mischief maker. Yet if any of you suffers as a Christian, do not consider it a disgrace, but glorify God because you bear this name. For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God?…

Does Jesus save Catholics as well as Christians?

Sure. If they believe they are saved by grace alone, and not by anything they have done.

And when this happens, kangaroo courts are par for the course. The bible is filled with encouragements for believers who find themselves in such situations. It’s a face off between God and the devil. Do it God’s way and you will win God’s way. The world’s schemes will backfire on themselves.

How did that go again?

Oh, yes:

John 15:18-27
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. 23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Jesus saves anyone who calls on His name for Him to save. It really isn’t about people or their worldly denominations. It’s about the Lord whose call to believe they accept.

This is where Wascally Evangelicals like me find themselves at theological odds with some others. We view church as Effect, not as Cause. But we also believe that for others to view church as Cause does not make it Cause, it remains Effect and remains subject to all the divine promises. I.e. we Wascally Evangelicals tell Catholics they don’t know how good they have it in Christ in spite of differences.

Nobody is actually watching the video.....classic FR...lol.

The question is, if you did claim to be a Christian would there be enough evidence in your life to prove it other than your own personal claim that you are?

I would say it is a silly question and can only be answered by the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is at least presumptuous to believe that you are a judge that can tell if a person is a Christian or not.

Salvation comes from the Jews, said Jesus, and as Paul says in Romans we are limbs grafted onto that true. Hence, as Pius Xii said. we are spiritual semites.

>>John 17 20 - 26

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

King James Bible<<

It says the same thing in our Catholic Bible. I know I have been guilty of it too, which is why I try to avoid the religion threads on here, but there it is, in Jesus' own words, and yet we fight and argue over the most ridiculous things. And I say ridiculous because look at what is happening to Christians in the Middle East and Africa. Watch the video of the priest from Iraq as he sobs describing the 7-8 yr old children who refused to deny Christ who were chopped in half. Think about that for a moment. One child is chopped in half in front of the others. Can you imagine the fear and horror for the other children? No you cannot. None of us can. Yet none of them denied Christ.

As I sat in Mass this morning I thought about all those people who have to fear for their lives to even leave their homes to go to Church. They are shooting Christians on their way to Church. I didn't have to worry about being murdered for going to Church this morning, and neither did the Baptist, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, etc. who love in my community.

We think we know persecution because someone had to bake a cake for queers? Try seeing your child get cut in half and then their head chopped off and put on a spike for everyone around to see. We need to come together as Jesus wanted, instead of bickering amongst ourselves. Imagine what we could accomplish!
