From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Posted on 03/01/2015 4:54:44 PM PST by NKP_Vet

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

>>But anti-catholicism is A-ok?<<

Per the rules of the religion forum it is, yes.

Countering any religion that incorporates paganism is required by followers of Christ.

And as a catholic....I only go to church for weddings and funerals (old joke).

What, if anything, you attempted to communicate to me...failed.

“I appreciate her input”

That’s because of mutual hatred of the Catholic Church. Nothing else.

You mistake consistent disagreement for "hate", unless you use the definition of hate to mean "love less".

Of course, in the last Book of the Holy Bible, Lord Jesus Christ said He hates the deeds of the Nicolaitans...whoever they were, huh?

Wonder not, that I said to thee, you must be born again.

Those not born again remain dead.. the dead do not know they are dead ...

Amazing the way the haters on here question the knowledge of Christian theology of a Catholic priest. Wonder who has the most former training and advanced levels of education in the field. But then again, there are the haters on here that think they know more about Christianity than Fulton Sheen and John Henry Newman. So why should I be surprised.

How many people could even read their native language then?

During the Renaissance it was between 10 to 40 % in some areas 60%

In England in the 1650 it was 53% ... that is why the Protestants starting Sunday School to help to teach them to read the bible

Look now? How many "literate" RC's read their bible ?? Even the "practicing" usually only hear it read to them ...in their native language

I've noticed catholics always through out the "hate" word when people either disagree with them or point out where they're wrong on Scripture. Catholics sure seem to have some very thin skin.....sounds a lot like the current occupant of the White House.

Well, then I guess Paul and the early church were haters of Judaism by your definition as they were always ready to offer a defense of the Gospel.

I've met a lot of people with degrees who aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

There are some posters on this board who do not have a formal theological training and sure seem to have a better grasp of the Scripture than those who are "educated".

Before the Bible, there was the Church. Catholics don’t need “born gain” nonsensical stuff. We have the Holy Eucharist.

Before the NT Scripture writings you mean? The TaNaKh was already in existence before any church founded. As a matter of fact Jesus pointed out that He could be found in TaNaKh (Luke 24). And of course before Peter's confession of Jesus as Christ, Son of the Living God, there was Jesus teaching Nicodemus "ye must be born again."(John 3). Also, the NT scriptures are the very Holy Spirit inspired writings of the NT church. The NT was being recorded as the church was being added to in the 1st century.

I'll await further clarification of your comments as they seem to be introductory comments.

Catholics don’t need “born gain” nonsensical stuff.

Come again? I am sure you are not denying the Words of Christ clearly stated:

John 3:

3 Jesus answered and said unto him,Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

...you are really still fostering a 500 year old protestant grudge against catholics for some bizzare reason.

I find the bias in the construction of this part of your sentence to be...revealing.

FRoman Catholics have a habit of referring to every non-Catholic posting here as a "protestant". That is a bad tactic and an error in countering facts and true representations of the Holy Bible teachings.

Catholics challenge FR Christian posters with false statements then do not appreciate it when the falsehood is countered with either Holy Scripture or a true expression of what the Holy Spirit says to all Christians.

I'm not nearly that old and I counter Catholicism because it preaches another gospel not found in scripture.
