From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Posted on 03/01/2015 4:54:44 PM PST by NKP_Vet

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

Catholics are Christians.

Some are, I hope. But on Free Republic, Catholics are Catholics.

I can help a little there. The information in his post was first published in "The new Schaff-Herzog encyclopedia of religious knowledge, embracing Biblical, historical, doctrinal, and practical theology and Biblical, theological, and ecclesiastical biography from the earliest times to the present day". A long title for a rather extensive read.

It has now been digitized and can be found at archive.org/stream/newschaffherzog01jackgoog/newschaffherzog01jackgoog_djvu.txt for anyone interested. Most browsers have the capability to do a word search within that online document for anyone who doubts the existence of the text in question. (I did)

Of course at this point portions of it can be found on many different sites quoting from that original. I simply gave the original lest anyone questions the authenticity of any site portions may be found on.

This is hardly an unbiased website. You might try the Encyclopedia Brittanica. I hardly think anyone will claim they are in pockets of the Vatican.

If no one could READ the Bible, why were so many copies SOLD as soon as it was translated by Tyndale?

"The new Schaff-Herzog encyclopedia of religious knowledge, embracing Biblical, historical, doctrinal, and practical theology and Biblical, theological, and ecclesiastical biography from the earliest times to the present day".

How about using the Encyclopedia Britannica, an unbiased secular source, and not in the pocket of the Vatican as some have claimed.

The rest is all vapid nonsense.

Ike THIS stuff?

Bernadine: …all gifts, all virtues, and all graces are dispensed by the hands of Mary to whomsoever, when, and as she pleases. O Lady, since thou art the dispenser of all graces, and since the grace of salvation can ONLY come through thy hands, OUR SALVATION DEPENDS ON THEE.

Bonaventure: …the gates of heaven will open to all who confide in the protection of Mary. Blessed are they who know thee, O Mother of God, for the knowledge of THEE is the high road to everlasting life, and the publication of thy virtues is the way of ETERNAL SALVATION . Give ear, O ye nations; and all you who desire heaven , serve, honor Mary, and certainly you will find ETERNAL LIFE.

Ephem: …devotion to the divine Mother…is the unlocking of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Blosius: To the, O Lady, are committed the KEYS and the treasures of the kingdom of Heaven.

Ambrose: …constantly pray ‘Open to us, O Mary, the gates of paradise, since thou hast its KEYS.

Fulgetius: …by Mary God descended from Heaven into the world, that by HER man might ascend from earth to Heaven.

Athanasius: …And, thou, O Lady, wast filled with grace, that thou mightiest be the way of our SALVATION and the means of ascent to the heavenly Kingdom.

Richard of Laurence: Mary, in fine, is the mistress of heaven; for there she commands as she wills, and ADMITS whom she wills.

Guerric: …he who serves Mary and for whom she intercedes, is as CERTAIN of heaven as if he were already there…and those who DO NOT serve Mary will NOT BE SAVED.

Anselm: It suffices, O Lady, that thou willest it, and our SALVATION is certain.

Antoninus: …souls protected by Mary, and on which she casts her eyes, are NECESSARILY JUSTIFIED AND SAVED.

You know better than that....he has been Pope for a VERY short time and while he seems to be mighty liberal, he hasn't done any damaage to the church as we know it....

And neither did THESE folks!!!

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

To come, however, to the question,—did people in the dark ages know anything of the Bible?

To come, however, to the PRESENT,—do people in the MSM age know anything of the Bible?

>>In the verse right after trinity and bible and do it yourself...<<

Trinity.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Bible (used 34 times in scripture)

Luke 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book (βιβλίον - biblion) of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book (βιβλίον - biblion), he found the place where it was written,

do it yourself

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Now, where is "Catholic Church" found in scripture again? I didn't find it "right after" any of those passages. Perhaps you would be so kind as to point it out and post it?

Jesus said repeatedly that we must eat his flesh and drink his blood in order to have eternal life.

John 6 can be, at best, a foreshadowing of the RC eucharist, for the events in John 6 occurred years before the death of Christ.

Further, it is not believable that having mentioned the true nature of the eucharist, supposedly, ... that John would not mention it in the Upper Room Discourse (John 13-17). John is the only gospel that does not mention the institution of the Lords Table.

No RC has a cogent explanation of this ...

You are welcome to give it a try

Do you mean things like take and eat of this "THIS IS MY BODY" and perhaps when He said take and drink of this "THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD WHICH WILL BE SHED FOR YOU"...

or do you just dismiss those direct statements as nonsense????...Catholics don't!!

Catholics 'dismiss' THESE!

Matthew 23

  1.  Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:

 15.   "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.
 16.  "Woe to you, blind guides! You say, `If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.'
 17.  You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
 19.  You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
 24.  You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
 26.  Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
 33.  "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

Mark 7:26-27
 26.  The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
 27.  "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

The fact that the phrase "born again" appears in the gospel does not prove that St. John meant the subjective "born again" experience that many modern Christians mean by it.

Did GOD really say...
