Divinum Officium: Whoever does not embrace the Catholic Christian religion will be damned
Divin Office of the Holy Catholic Church ^ | Traditional Catholic Church

Posted on 02/20/2015 2:37:38 AM PST by Repent and Believe

From the Martyrology today we have: "At Damascus, [in the year 743,] holy Peter Mavimeno. Some Arabs came to see him while he was ill, and to them he said, " Whoever does not embrace the Catholic Christian religion will be damned, as your false prophet Mohammed is," whereupon they killed him."

You deftly, and in established Alinsky form, totally neglected addressing the issue under debate.

We were debating an issue?

(CB, you done been got by Leni. Fess up to one of the priests attending this thread and be absolved of feeling guilty.)

And sometimes even end up preaching to myself.

As we all do. By all means, keep preaching and telling the truth. 😄😃😇😊

I’d be better than EATING blood, but no.

Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ.

It’s the blood of Jesus applied to our lives that saves us.

And yet Catholics, by their own admission are never assured of their salvation. What a sad way to go through life. No wonder there is an “Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow”.

Your reply is incoherent...and, I asked my priest about what your claim is and he said that you are mistaken on Catholic doctrine.

Not sure what your point about Ghandi is...do you wish to elaborate, perhaps a little more coherently?

The catholic Church as spoken of in Catholic Doctrine is the Universal Christian church. You will note that the catholic Church in your catechism (at least mine) is a small c...when referring to the actual Catholic Church we use the capital C.

Isn’t Pope Pius IX going to be surprised when Jesus returns and it is not to Rome (Vatican) where He arrives. LOL

There is a good joke out there, it goes something like this.

One early morning a Cardinal rushes to the Popes sleeping quarters, abruptly awakening the Holy Father. Upon awakening His Eminence harshly asks, “why have you awakened me so early?” The Cardinal replies “your Eminence, I have good news and terrible news”. The Pope asks for the good news first to which the Cardinal, with great joy responds, “our Lord Jesus Christ has returned!” The Holy Father upon hearing this is of course elated...but, then he remembers there is also bad news...so asks “what could possibly be bad news then?”

To which the loyal Cardinal replies...He arrived in Salt Lake City!

And, that has about as much Theological weight as your Pope attempt to put himself between God and the faithful.

click on the source to see not only that the Divine Office is not only from 1960, which it is,

If you had followed the link to Versions, you would have seen/read that the Divine Office has been "the official prayer of the Catholic Church for at least 1500 years". The 1960 version is merely one of the most recent versions.

but that it has no directions for the quote

It is from the Martyrology. Look it up.

Jesus came to save sinners, not to tell everyone what religion to join

1) It is not either/or it is both/and.
2) Did He not tell the disciples to go forth to all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost? In 743 there was only one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. So, yes Jesus wanted everyone to "join" the church He founded.

FYI: this quote is from a small church that uses the word Catholic, not the big one of 1.2 billion folks.

Your reply is incoherent...and, I asked my priest about what your claim is and he said that you are mistaken on Catholic doctrine.

If you consider my reply incoherent, I'm not sure if you interpreted it correctly. For one thing, I wasn't making any claims specifically about Catholic doctrine. I was really thinking more about what people from different (and in some ways contrasting) groups would say about the situation.

Not sure what your point about Ghandi is...do you wish to elaborate, perhaps a little more coherently?

If I am to answer "coherently," I'd need to know specifically what you find so incoherent about my point.

I am sorry, I think it may have been a formatting problem on the text with the mix of copy and paste and your input.

I think I understand what you were saying...basically that Christianity is exclusive also...yes, but there is valid reason for that. It is what God tells us. If one thinks about it all the theological doctrine one needs to truly understand the overall gist of Christianity is summed up in John 3:16. There we are also told that no man is between any individual and Jesus Christ...we all have direct access to Him.

I realize that people who are not Christian may look upon the exclusivity but I don’t think it is the same logically as one denomination of the same religion being exclusive...In the one case we literally have God telling us that all Christians go to heaven...in the other we have some men, outside of the Bible telling us that only one denomination goes to heaven. They are completely mutually exclusive of each other.

Read what I wrote. Revel in your faith all you want. But you can’t seriously claim there isn’t a large cabal of Catholics and Protestants on this site that viciously attack each other, condemn each other to hell, call each other cultists, etc. It happens almost daily. That is a fact. I find that objectionable and counter to furthering the conservative cause. You obviously don’t. I do find it funny that because you object to my opinion you want to pay to have me kicked off this site. That’s the first time I’ve seen that in 14 years of reading this site. Nice.

Blecch

You are twisting what I said wasting my time putting words

Here’s what i said... Forget it... Read it

Jesus did not have the disciples nor us not whatever clergy man this stupid unfounded quote is attributed to, go out and tell people what religion to join lest they be damned. That is a heresy and a perversion of Catholicism so enjoyed by the anti papists here
Get off my case.

The heart of the conservative cause is the faith in God, if you do not understand that then you are truly not a conservative. We garner all our true rights as humans from God...there is not one Christian on this website who would disagree with that. We are one in that. We are also one in believing in God’s love for each of us. We may quibble about little things, but truthfully we are a cohesive group given our numbers and diverse backgrounds. We join each other in our faith ultimately and that is really what matters.

I have been on this site for about eleven years and I know that there is more disagreement, way more ignorance and rancor on the political discussions. Your incorrect assertion that Christians are harming the reputation of this website is insulting and to be frank ignorant in the true sense of the word...not knowing or understanding.

Just remember, without God’s word and the Christians who follow Him there is no conservatism...because those who do not follow God have no moral foundation. They truly live in a humanist relative world where morality is by whim and reason is flawed.

So, I would take it kindly if you would just show a bit of respect for what is truly the greatest thing about being human...loving God. Just cause we have some differences does nothing to change that homogenous trait among Christians.

“I believe in free speech. But it’s a lousy argument on this site. How quick would a pro-ISIS Muslim poster get the zot for writing favorably about their cause? That’s free speech too.”

Shame on you...really, you have brought shame to yourself.

“I for one though enjoy these threads. You never really know how well you know something until you have to defend it.”

Excellent point!

Luke 12:51-53 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

51 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; 52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
