You’ve been misinformed. No “gospels” were “discarded” at Nicaea. The council didn’t address the canon of Scripture; it concerned itself with rejecting Arianism (the belief that Jesus was a lesser god than the Father) and setting the date of Easter.

Note Pius IX’s treatment of invincible ignorance in several places. The Catholic Church has never taught that anyone could be damned except for deliberate mortal sin.
Here is the answer to this question from the Baltimore Catechism:
Q. 509. Are all bound to belong to the Church?
A. All are bound to belong to the Church, and he who knows the Church to be the true Church and remains out of it cannot be saved.
And Pius IX:

That idea gets tossed around a lot, but nobody can come up with any specifics about exactly when the "big change" happened or who the players were, etc.
The main controversy at the time was Arianism. Constantine himself was sympathetic to the Arians, but tolerant toward orthodoxy. No mainstream Christians today accept Arianism, so (unless you're a JW) the rejection of Arianism couldn't have been the "big change" you're talking about. So what was it, and when did it happen?

I’m so dating myself as OLD but back in my day, there were very few non-Catholic students. We did have a few in high school (and a few Jewish students too). They paid the regular tuition. Now.. you did get a “discount” for multiple students. I went to elementary school with a family that had 12 kids... by the fourth or fifth one, the rest were free (minus uniforms, book fee etc). The same discount applied to the Jewish families/other denominations as well.
The same David one who took the wife of someone else and had her husband sent to be killed in battle?
I suspect that is the Almighty’s decision to make, not some self-appointed vicar’s.

Prior to Christianity become a 'state-accepted-sponsored' religion, it was essentially 'pure' in belief and practice by those who followed the teachings of Christ.
As soon as it became accepted and 'promoted' by the state, many people of wealth and power 'became Christians', just to curry favor with the new 'fashionable' religion that was favored by the Emperor. Consequently, earthly and worldly considerations (power / property / wealth) started becoming more important for those coming into the 'new' religion of "Christianity", obscuring the real message of 'love and peace and faith in Christ'. The new "Kings" and the "Pope" became engulfed in worldly and earthly power over their subjects (see 'Borgias').
Yep. That's the one. He was human and a sinner like everyone else in the bible except for Jesus. And God forgave him and continued to enforce the covenant he made with him. He continued to call him "a man after may own heart" and kept someone from his line on the throne of Judea and also kept his promise that the Messiah would come from his line and rule on his throne forever. Now you have a citation, from a time 400 years before there were any Protestants, of a Catholics being martyred for telling Muslims they are all going to hell.

It's no "spin off belief" Wpin. One only need read their Catechism and see the so called "infallible" statements made that restrict salvation to only within that "church". Christ didn't set up an institution or organization. He said that belief on Him and Him alone is what indicated you were part of His ekklesia (those called out to be His). The arrogant and prideful "we are the only one" is contrary to what He taught.
I would also note that God (and therefore Jesus) counseled David on when to go to battle and, on occasion, how to conduct those battles. Further the most battle experienced man that Jesus ever met in the Gospels, the Roman Centurian, was commended by Jesus to have more faith than anyone else in Israel.
Very well. The Roman Catholic Church has many who confess Christ as the only Way, and those who are not found in Him as lost eternally. This despite the official position on matters of justification before God, which these days is difficult to pin down. The more faithful the Church is in confessing the Truth - and this confession takes place on a wide scale throughout the spectrum of Christianity with a great deal of stubble attached - the more pointed will be the world’s animosity toward it.
