What Obama Didn't Say About Slavery and Christianity
Creative Minority Report ^ | February 8, 2015 | MATTHEW ARCHBOLD

Posted on 02/09/2015 2:27:35 PM PST by NYer

President Obama took to the podium of the National Prayer Breakfast to criticize the “terrible deeds” . . . committed “in the name of Christ” throughout the pass two thousand years or so.

"And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ," he said. "In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ."

While the president is right that slavery supporters often sought out validation in Christian theology, it's also true (but sadly unremarked on by the president) that Christianity was the mobilizing force that stopped slavery throughout the world.

In England, it was the efforts of William Wilberforce, a Christian, that made illegalized the slave trade.

“Let true Christians then, with becoming earnestness, strive in all things to recommend their profession, and to put to silence the vain scoffs of ignorant objectors. Let them boldly assert the cause of Christ in an age when so many, who bear the name of Christians, are ashamed of Him: and let them consider as devolved on Them the important duty of suspending for a while the fall of their country, and, perhaps, of performing a still more extensive service to society at large; not by busy interference in politics, in which it cannot but be confessed there is much uncertainty; but rather by that sure and radical benefit of restoring the influence of Religion, and of raising the standard of morality.”
Here too, the abolitionist movement was largely a Christian one.

Benjamin Franklin, President of the Pennsylvania Abolition Society said:
That mankind are all formed by the same Almighty Being, alike objects of his care, and equally designed for the enjoyment of happiness, the Christian religion teaches us to believe, and the political creed of Americans fully coincides with the position. . . . [We] earnestly entreat your serious attention to the subject of slavery – that you will be pleased to countenance the restoration of liberty to those unhappy men who alone in this land of freedom are degraded into perpetual bondage and who . . . are groaning in servile subjection.

Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, said:
Domestic slavery is repugnant to the principles of Christianity. . . . It is rebellion against the authority of a common Father. It is a practical denial of the extent and efficacy of the death of a common Savior. It is an usurpation of the prerogative of the great Sovereign of the universe who has solemnly claimed an exclusive property in the souls of men.

But sadly, that goes unremarked on by the president. This is the same president who left out "under God" while reciting the Gettysburg Address. It's almost like he has an agenda or something.

Christianity has worked to end slavery, while Islam still permits and in many places, encourages it. But all cultures are equal...right?

Obama’s comments on the Crusades and the Inquisition cements his title as the Cliff Notes President.

Another important point is that no Christians in the room that morning were involved with the Crusades or the Inquisition. Additionally, I doubt many of them are slave owners either. Hussein Obama needs to look for other reasons to justify muslim beheadings and other violence.

By the way, I like to add that I believe the Crusades were a result of Christians just growing tired of muslim terrorism. They had had enough and finally decided to fight back. muzzies were behaving then like they are now. The expansion of islam prior to the Crusades was only a result of their terrorist acts.

Slavery and Christianity in colonial America is a complicated issue. Liberals like things to be simple but they seldom are.

George Whitefield could be seen to justify it but I think it was more a matter of trying to make the best of a situation he had little control over. He simply suggested using it as a means of freeing blacks from the barbarism of Africa. He was given a slave (Surrey) who he freed immediately yet took her in to live with his family where she could be cared for as she was educated.

Whitefield later became a staunch and outspoken abolitionist.

Phyllis Wheatley was a global superstar poet and a slave. She traveled to Europe and met heads of state. She could have remained in Europe as a free woman but chose to return to America. She wrote the Eulogy for George Whitefield's funeral. Her poetry took a dim view of slavery and racism yet praised God for having been brought out of Africa.

An example

Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,
Taught my benighted soul to understand
That there's a God, that there's a Saviour too:
Once I redemption neither sought nor knew.
Some view our sable race with scornful eye,
"Their colour is a diabolic dye."
Remember, Christians, Negroes, black as Cain,
May be refin'd, and join th' angelic train.

Selected Sermons of George Whitefield

Obama does not care who he offends and he is President? Talk about someone on their high horse. This guy is all over the board with his rhetoric. He is absolutely out of control; has no discipline like a young kid.

Barry Soetoro sure is ignorant.

He only seems to know what Valerie puts on his teleprompter.

Most Crusades were formed to protect Western civilization
from invading blood-thirsty Islamic terrorists.

Some Crusades were created by the Pope
to murder those who refused to submit(Islam) to him.

Jim Crow laws and slavery have been promoted by the Democrat Party.

Obama is an idiot. Slavery is a very unproductive economic system, and only came back into the West when Europe started buying back hostages captured by the Muslims, mostly on the Mediterranean. These people were being sold on the ME slave markets, and not only was buying them back considered a work of mercy, but many religious orders were founded to ransom them or even exchange members of the order for these people (so that the priests or brothers could preach to the Muslims from prison or the slave market, wherever they were held).

There were a couple of slave-trading European countries: England and Portugal, although people in other countries did buy slaves from them. But except for those two countries, slave purchasers in other countries were not usually bringing in a slave population to be laborers on an estate, but were “buying” a cook, a hairdresser, a groom, etc. Outside of the British Caribbean and the US South, laves had legal rights, could earn money and buy their freedom, and were essentially long-term indentured servants. And even England itself formerly abolished slavery in its colonies in 1833, although of course the US persisted for another 30 years.

For some reason, the British American colonies adopted a completely Islamic version of slavery, where slaves were chattel (that means possessions) and were not considered full human beings. The only Christian groups that really supported this idea, however, were churches here and there that were dependent on the plantation owners, and came up with a “two creations” theory based on the two Creation accounts in Genesis. But other churches were sending missionaries, even though many counties in Georgia and South Carolina had on the books the death penalty for people who preached to or baptized a slave.

So clearly, even 19th century mainstream Christian practice did not approve or favor chattel slavery. There were some Christians who felt that the system should be maintained long enough for the slave owners to protect the former slaves, give them an education and equip them to live in the world after slavery, since the Africans had been brought here involuntarily and deprived of support in adapting to their new world. But slavery was reintroduced to the West through Islam, and was not supported by Christians but by a small group of people making money off of slave labor, who actually forbade the slaves to become Christians.

Slavery is one of the facto pillars of Islam since its very beginning.

The Greatest Murder Machine in History
By Mike Konrad

May 21, 2014

When one thinks of mass murder, Hitler comes to mind. If not Hitler, then Tojo, Stalin, or Mao. Credit is given to the 20th-century totalitarians as the worst species of tyranny to have ever arisen. However, the alarming truth is that Islam has killed more than any of these, and may surpass all of them combined in numbers and cruelty.

The enormity of the slaughters of the “religion of peace” are so far beyond comprehension that even honest historians overlook the scale. When one looks beyond our myopic focus, Islam is the greatest killing machine in the history of mankind, bar none.

The Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. — Will Durant, as quoted on Daniel Pipes site.

Conservative estimates place the number at 80 million dead Indians.

According to some calculations, the Indian (subcontinent) population decreased by 80 million between 1000 (conquest of Afghanistan) and 1525 (end of Delhi Sultanate). — Koenrad Elst as quoted on Daniel Pipes site
80 Million?! The conquistadors’ crimes pale into insignificance at that number. No wonder Hitler admired Islam as a fighting religion. He stood in awe of Islam, whose butchery even he did not surpass.

Over 110 Million Blacks were killed by Islam.

... a minumum of 28 Million African were enslaved in the Muslim Middle East. Since, at least, 80 percent of those captured by Muslim slave traders were calculated to have died before reaching the slave market, it is believed that the death toll from 1400 years of Arab and Muslim slave raids into Africa could have been as high as 112 Millions.

When added to the number of those sold in the slave markets, the total number of African victims of the trans-Saharan and East African slave trade could be significantly higher than 140 Million people. — John Allembillah Azumah, author of The Legacy of Arab-Islam in Africa: A Quest for Inter-religious Dialogue.

Add just those two numbers alone together, and Islam has surpassed the victims of 20th-century totalitarianism. However, it does not end there. Add the millions who died at the hand of Muslims in the Sudan in our lifetime.

Much of Islamic slavery was sexual in nature, with a preference for women. Those men who were captured were castrated. The mulatto children of the women were often killed, which explains why Islam was not demographically shifted towards the black race, unlike slaves in the West, who bore children to breed a mestizo class. Add in those dead children; and we arrive at well over 200 million.
Remember that in the 7th century, North Africa was almost totally Christian. What happened to them?

By the year 750, a hundred years after the conquest of Jerusalem, at least 50 percent of the world’s Christians found themselves under Muslim hegemony… Today there is no indigenous Christianity in the region [of Northwest Africa], no communities of Christians whose history can be traced to antiquity.— “Christianity Face to Face with Islam,” What happened to those Christian millions? Some converted. The rest? Lost to history.

We know that over 1 million Europeans were enslaved by Barbary Pirates. How many died is anybody’s guess.
...for the 250 years between 1530 and 1780, the figure could easily have been as high as 1,250,000 - BBC
In the Middle Ages…

…many slaves were passed through Armenia and were castrated there to fill the Muslim demand for eunuchs. — Slavery in Early Medieval Europe.

The same practice ran through Islamic Spain. North Europeans captured from raids up to Iceland, or purchased, were butchered in the castratoriums of Iberia. Many died from the operations that ran for centuries.

The number of dead from the Muslim conquest of the Balkans and Southern Italy is unknown, but again the numbers add up, surely into the millions over the centuries. Don’t forget the 1.5 million Armenian Christians killed by the Turks during WWI.

We do know that over five centuries, vast numbers of Christian boys were kidnapped to become Islamic Janissary mercenaries for the Turks. Add those in, too.

Muslims prized blonde women for their harems; and so enslaved Slavic women were purchased in the bazaars of the Crimean Caliphate. In Muslim Spain, an annual tribute of 100 Visigothic [blonde] women was required from Spain’s Cantabrian coast.

For decades, 100 virgins per year were required by the Muslim rulers of Spain from the conquered population. The tribute was only stopped when the Spaniards began fighting back — Jihad: Islam’s 1,300 Year War Against Western Civilization

Add in the death toll from the Reconquista and the numbers climb higher.

Research has shown that the Dark Ages were not caused by the Goths, who eventually assimilated and Christianized:
…the real destroyers of classical civilization were the Muslims. It was the Arab Invasions... which broke the unity of the Mediterranean world and turned the Middle Sea — previously one of the world’s most important trading highways — into a battleground. It was only after the appearance of Islam... that the cities of the West, which depended upon the Mediterranean trade for their survival, began to die. —

Islam Caused the Dark Ages
Add in those unknown millions who died as a consequence.
How many know the horrors of the conquest of Malaysia? The Buddhists of Thailand and Malaysia were slaughtered en masse.

When attacked and massacred by the Muslims, the Buddhists initially did not make any attempt to escape from their murderers. They accepted death with an air of fatalism and destiny. And hence they are not around today to tell their story. – History of Jihad.org

We may never know the numbers of dead.

The rest of the history

I’m sure he didn’t mention these Bible verses:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+21%3A16&version=MEV

“He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death.”

and

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+1%3A8-11&version=ESV

“Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.”

Obama's approach to blame Christians for what they did almost a thousand years ago to justify why his Muslim buddies are committing atrocities today, is indefensible. And he needs to get his facts right about history.
